The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1466
"Five silvers?? Have you lost your mind?!" the vendor's eyes almost popped out of their sockets from the shock, "Who would sell such precious minerals for only five silver each? It's 20 for one!"
"B-But it says fi-five on the-" Luz tried to point at the large sign that said '5 silvers= 1 piece' but the vendor quickly smacked his hand away.
"That's for the patrons! Slaves like you need to pay the slave price. Out with the money now!" he grabbed Luz by the collar and started going through his pockets.
A crowd had formed around them of both slaves and residents but no one bothered to speak up. Some were watching with glee, happy that it wasn't them being taken advantage of and for others, it was just a form of entertainment.
The jeering crowd was getting louder than ever, pushing Hao Xuan's clenched fist to tighten even more.
It was a dirty feeling. Tens of people surrounded them but they were more alone than ever.
The laughter became louder and louder to the point that it was unbearable. And Hao Xuan felt like they were mocking him personally, in fact, one of the voices was.
'Always a plaything for the amusement of others. Taken advantage of, lied to, and in the end, you will bow and kneel to him just like the other time. Some things don't change, do they? Hahaha'
"Who said that?!" he roared.
Hao Xuan's head jerked left and right furiously looking for the speaker and he found him not a second later.
It was a person standing at the very back of the crowd. He had long black hair that covered most of his face. Only that eerie grin could be seen clearly in the light of day, the rest of him was covered in shadows.
Hao Xuan's eyes narrowed as he stepped towards the man, "Say that again you bast-"
But he was pulled to the other side by a pair of strong hands that had gotten a hold of his shirt, "I said where is my money?!" the vendor screamed into his ear.
"The fu-" Hao Xuan flinched, and by the time he looked back the other man was gone.
"Oi, did you hear me?!" the vendor yelled again while rummaging through his clothes.
With gritted teeth, Hao Xuan redirected his full attention towards the vendor.
The vendor was not putting up any fronts anymore so he didn't either. Throwing caution to the wind, Hao Xuan grabbed the man's shoulder with his right hand and with his left, threw a moderately powerful punch straight towards his liver.
*WOOOP*
The vendor's flesh rippled while all the clothes from his back exploded. His eyes rolled over as he turned limp and fell to the ground. Hao Xuan grabbed Luz and jumped into the air in one swift motion, leaving the dumbfounded crowd behind.
The sound of loud whistles resonated behind them but he wasn't sticking around to find out what they were for, although it was not hard to guess.
The chains rattled loudly in the wind while he lept from one rooftop to another, landing in a place that seemed somewhat deserted after sufficiently distancing themselves.
Hao Xuan was expecting to hear some form of gratitude but Luz slapped him on the back instead.
"WHY-" he paused to make sure no one was nearby before continuing, "Why did you do that?!"
"He was stealing from you, what else should I have done?"
"We are slaves! It always happen! But if there is trouble only we get punishment."
"Even you?"
"Especially Luz! Lady Yukio's reputation must not be tarnished! And...he already got my money, what is point of making trouble now?" Luz turned away from him with a defeated look.
Hao Xuan opened his left hand to reveal a small leather pouch.
He jiggled it in his ears, "Are you sure about that?"
Luz's neck snapped back like an owl, "MONEY!"
"Mhm," he threw over the pouch.
This was all thanks to the Midas Touch. When the vendor touched Hao Xuan the same feeling ran through his body but it was weakest in one place in particular. And that's where he found the pouch, tied to his waist under his shirt.
"If you don't do anything guys like that will keep coming. Sometimes it is not wise to turn the other cheek."
Luz opened it up and counted all the coins inside. His expression worsened, "This...is a lot of money. Should we give it back?"
"Why? He probably stole it anyway. We will take half each."
"Are you sure? What if he finds us?"
"How will he do that? There are thousands of people in the city. And if he does, I'll take care of it."
"....okay.."
After the split Hao Xuan was roughly 57 gold coins richer. It wasn't a lot but at this point in time, every coin was invaluable.
Luz showed him around to a handful of other places of importance until it was time to head back. And only then did he finally mention something that should have been said at the very start.
"Many places don't do business with slaves, something they not even let us in without the masters. You have to be careful not to make trouble with them or they will take you away."
