The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1553

Barely thirty seconds later the younger guard reached one of the rooms on the top floor. The door was already open so he waltzed right in.

Upon seeing the two figures standing by the window he quickly got down on one knee, "Princess Yi, Lady Kyra, there is trouble!"

But Lady Kyra, the merwoman Hao Xuan had previously met at the inn waved him away before he could give her the news.

"I know, we saw everything. Go take care of Teng Ju, make sure his injuries aren't serious."

"As you wish, my lady," the guard was about to return when Princess Yi stopped him with a query of her own.

"That slave, what did he say to you before leaving?"

"The slave?" Hao Xuan's face flashed past his eyes after a couple of seconds because he had already thrown his entire existence out of his mind, "Oh, he was informing us how Lord Teng Ju encountered an issue during his training and went berserk."

"Hmm. And what was he doing here in the first place?"

"He came to deliver some kind of a letter, Princess!"

"A letter?!" Princess Yi's brow shot up in anger as she spun on her heels to face him, "Another one?! Get out, now!" she shouted, taking out her misplaced anger on the poor teenager.

"Y-Yes, princess! At once!"

He sprinted away at full speed and was gone in the blink of an eye.

*Sigh*

"Those damned letters! Why is he trying so hard to get in my way? Is it that difficult to leave his whores behind for a few hours?!" she stomped her feet indignantly before peering out of the window at the destruction outside.

It gave a clear view of the courtyard and the ruined fountain.

After taking a few deep breaths to regain her composure Song Yi turned towards Lady Kyra, "What do you think?"

"What about."

"That slave."

Lady Kyra's confused expression spoke volumes of how little she had thought of him.

"The slave? What of him?"

"Don't you find it strange? Everywhere we go he's somehow there."

"I mean...he came to deliver a letter from your precious brother who is staying at the same inn as him, it's not that unexpected. And we saw with our own eyes how Teng Ju attacked him first without provocation which is not the first time either because he's often picked fights with random people. It all tracks. Although..."

Princess Yi's ears perked up, "What??"

"I was just a little surprised by his strength and how skillfully he handled Teng Ju."

"Right?! So there is something strange about him then!"

Lady Kyra shook her head, "No, not really. Given his history it makes sense. He might have lost his cultivation but that kind of experience and craftwork is not easily forgotten. Not to mention that although Teng Ju is strong, he refuses to train in his Ancestral Arts so most experienced warriors could deal with him."

"Deal with him?!" Princess Yi pointed towards the courtyard out of frustration, "Teng Ju couldn't even leave a SCRATCH on him! The slave was toying with him from start to finish! And how did he even move like that in Teng Ju's domain? You saw that right?? How many ordinary cultivators do you know who could pull that off, let alone someone with a destroyed cultivation??"

But Lady Kyra simply shrugged and walked away, "I don't know and I don't care. If you're so sure he's up to something then why don't you follow him and uncover whatever 'plot' you think he is hatching? Although if you ask me I think you're only interested in him because he embarrassed you so badly in front of everyone. Hah! I still laugh whenever I imagine you on your knees like that, so good!"

Despite her obvious attempts to aggravate her, Princess Yi ignored everything else while freezing mid-rant as a proverbial lightbulb lit up over her head.

"I will do JUST that!"

Hao Xuan teleported back to the lower districts, returning to the humid and sweaty commercial district that was teeming with all manner of beings trying to get to the upper district for some relief.

Once he was out of the rowdy crowd Ryuk's voice reached his ears.

'Where will you go now?'

'Hmm, good question,' Hao Xuan slowed his roll because at this point he was walking without a destination in mind.

'I don't want to risk going back to the inn right now, they might actually start giving me more work. I won't have to go to the dig site for a while either so- oh right!'

Hao Xuan brushed his fingers over the wheel-shaped amulet hanging from his neck. He had stored the small Yang spirit stone which he picked up from the mine earlier.

'I can use that stone for him, but how do I bring it over to the umbral planes??'

Ryuk, quite unceremoniously and out of character, chipped in with some good advice for once.

'Why don't you ask that long-haired human who creates those awful sounds? He knows many things about the other places, no?'

'Long haired- Liet! You're right, how could I forget about him so soon?!'

Hao Xuan quickly picked up his pace and vanished behind one of the countless interconnected alleys not long after.

Barely a minute later an old man stopped at the same spot Hao Xuan had.

*Sniff*Sniff*

"Where did he go from here?"
