The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1564
Hao Xuan's eyes narrowed as he noticed the presence of a shadow dragging the hunter's pupils left and right. It didn't look like he was in control over his own body.
'Despite his earlier words there is no emotions behind his eyes at all...is he being controlled by another??'
Time returned to normal just as the hunter's body flew into the building to the right.
*BOOOM*
Even Hao Xuan was surprised by how loud the impact noise was because he expected the hunter to defend so he didn't hold back and ended up using nearly half of his strength.
'?!'
'Why didn't he use any skills or spiritual energy to protect himself??'
For a second he thought it was over but the demihuman jumped out of the wreckage with surprising agility, landing on his feet the very next moment.
Hao Xuan's eyes traced the outline of his mangled body which, despite its terrible condition, didn't slow him down at all.
'He broke several bones just then, there is no way any living creature can walk off that much internal damage. But...he is moving just fine.'
The hunter cracked his knuckles and stood upright, completely ignoring the blood and popping sounds coming from his chest and abdomen.
'I need to check what's wrong with him...'
"What's your name?" Hao Xuan whispered into the girl's ear.
"J-Ji Yan," she muttered weakly.
"Can you stand, Ji Yan?"
She gave half a nod in response so he gently lowered her to the ground, "Run back then. He won't be following you."
Princess Yi- or rather 'Ji Yan' didn't know what to do. The whole reason she went through this little 'play' was to get close to him so just running back wasn't an option.
"What about you-" she tried to ask but thankfully the shade controlling the demihuman came to her rescue.
"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT RUNNING AWAY, WHORE!" he growled like a beast, "THERE IS NOWHERE ON THIS CITY WHERE I WON'T BE ABLE TO FIND YOU!"
She picked up on the hint and quickly hid behind Hao Xuan while wrapping her arms around him.
"No!"
Meanwhile Hao Xuan's brow continued to knit deeper and deeper.
'Where the hell did that come from?? He 'sounds' angry but his breathing is completely normal and his heart rate is as steady as it can be...'
Despite her strong grip Hao Xuan easily detached her from his waist before pushing her aside.
"You can't stay here, go hide somewhere else while I deal with him. When it's safe I will come and get you."
She glanced at the demihuman who didn't seem to have anything to say so she nodded, "Un! Thank you for saving me!" before running in the direction he had come from.
When the sound of her footsteps could not be heard anymore Hao Xuan let out a breath of relief.
"Finally, we can talk freely," he said with a smirk.
The demihuman spat in his direction with a scowl, "You are dead meat boy! I will get to her sooner or later!"
Hao Xuan waved his hands nonchalantly, "There is no reason to keep up the act. I know you don't give a damn about that girl. Why are you here?"
The shade was quite taken aback and for a moment he didn't know what to say.
'How did he know?? The act was perfect!'
But he didn't admit to anything outright and instead asked a question of his own, "What makes you say that?"
Hao Xuan gestured towards his face, "You mimic human emotions quite well but it's far from perfect. After all, how could you know when you've never experienced it yourself?"
He walked around to the left while looking the hunter up and down, "You're not a demon, I would have felt it. But it's not entirely foreign either. I've come across your kind before somewhere...just can't remember when."
The 'hunter' remained silent so Hao Xuan continued.
"What do you want from me? Was the girl a distraction or is she working with you? She seemed quite human, I wonder how long she will last when I start pulling her fingers off one by one."
'!!!'
'Who the hell is this human?! I must warn the princess, this might not be a good idea...'
As shocked as the shade was, he didn't let it show and even used it to his advantage.
"Hmph, do whatever you want. Why would I care what happens to some fleshbag?"
"Ohh?" Hao Xuan acted surprised, "I thought you wanted to bring her back to your master."
The shade started laughing manically
"Hahaha! As if! That was the goal of this putrid creature, I just used it to my advantage," he said slapping his chest.
"So you admit it, finally some honesty!" Hao Xuan clapped once, "How about another one then? Why are you here?"
The shade thought about it for a second before answering, 'Better keep it vague, let him draw his own conclusions. He seems to be running from something so I should make him think they have caught up. '
"Hmph, why else? You of course! Did you really think you could from us??"
"Us?" Hao Xuan tilted his head sideways, "Who's us exactly?"
"You know exactly who we are. Did you think we wouldn't find you down here?"
