The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1465
Hao Xuan was flabbergasted.
'I think this is the highest price I have ever seen! What's so good about it?'
He 'clicked' on it furiously hoping to get more details but something unexpected happened. The mark of the 'King in Yellow' was activated of its own accord, causing the price for this Eternal Blessing to fall.
One by one the number of zeros began to disappear until only four remained. It fell all the way down to 40,000 favour only thanks to the King in Yellow.
Hao Xuan was so taken aback that he didn't even know what to say.
'Is...this a gift? Or maybe like a flash sale or something? Or just the effect of the mark? '
Until this moment he hadn't realized that each respective mark needed to activate individually to get the best price, especially if the blessing in question was provided by that specific deity.
His finger hovered right above the buy option while he weighed the pros and cons.
'It is VERY expensive even at 40,000 favour. I could level up multiple other marks for roughly the same amount but...this is a blessing from the King in Yellow himself and I have the highest affinity with him. Meaning this is as low as this can possibly get so it is definitely the best price I will ever find for it...not to mention that if I don't accept it he could take offense. But 40k favour is still a lot to throw away j-'
He was so engrossed in his own thoughts that when Luz smacked his shoulder he was startled enough to press 'Buy' without even meaning to.
"NO!" Hao Xuan yelled out loud as the total favour fell from 107,221 to 67,221 in an instant.
Luz recoiled in a fright, "W-What?!"
In his fury Hao Xuan snatched the rock from Luz's hand and raised it over his head.
Like a deer caught in headlights, Luz was so surprised by the sudden turn of events that he didn't even move. And thankfully he didn't have to since Hao Xuan was pulled back to reality by an inexplicable feeling running through his body.
He looked at the rock in his hand while his brow continued to wrinkle. It felt hollow and empty, like a cheap toy.
*sigh*
With a deep breath he flicked Luz on the forehead and placed the rock back on the stall.
"Not this one," he muttered annoyingly, "And don't interrupt me when I'm trying to think."
Luz lowered his hands while his drumming heartbeat began to slow down.
"O-Oh...okay. Does...friend Jin want a mineral too? Luz will buy it for you!"
Hao Xuan quickly felt each of the other 20 or so rocks but only found one that felt a little different from all the rest. It wasn't a particularly good feeling, just...different.
'Damn it, how does this thing work?'
It didn't make sense no matter how hard he tried to understand it. Whenever he came into contact with a rock a vague sensation -not much different from a sixth sense- passed through him.
The 'Midas Touch' mainly associated different emotions and feelings with each object which left a lot up to his own interpretation. There was no "manual" detailing every little thing about the blessing so Hao Xuan had to figure it out himself the good old-fashioned way, through repeated experimentation.
"This one, try this one," he handed it to Luz under the watchful gaze of the vendor.
The owner of the stall looked to be a man in his forties with a well-kept long beard wearing a grey robe. He was eyeing them from the beginning and at first didn't pay any attention to their scrabbling but when Hao Xuan started going through every rock he stood up straight.
"Dear customer, is there a problem?" he asked cordially, flashing them a row of misshapen teeth.
"No, no problem. He wants this one," Hao Xuan replied without even looking at him.
The man walked over to the other side to get a better look at them and when he saw the chains and the white marks his expression turned ugly.
"Why? What's wrong with the other one?" he asked grumpily.
Hao Xuan paused and looked up to meet his scrutinizing gaze, "Why would there be something wrong? We want this one, so give it to us. What's the problem?"
The man scoffed, "A bunch of slaves think they know better than me?"
He picked up the first rock Luz had selected and threw it back to him, "You will take this and be happy. Your filthy hands already touched it so take it and get lost!" he purposely raised his voice so people would hear, and expectantly some of them stopped by to see what was going on.
Hao Xuan clenched his jaw. He was already incensed at the events so far and seeing this man act up like that only added more fuel to the fire.
Luz sensed the situation was getting out of hand so he quickly stepped in.
"Okay okay no problem. We will buy both of them! 5 silvers for each one right?"
