But Hao Xuan was unbothered. He could withstand the touch of a true demon so what was a little prick of a mere mortal girl-

Hao Xuan felt his stone-like skin give way to her dainty fingers as if he had been born yesterday. The shock was apparent on his face as he suddenly turned towards her, which startled both Lady Yuki and Vlitgar.

She quickly pulled away her hand, "W-What?"

He stared into her eyes for a moment before flashing a flirtatious smile to ease the growing tension.

"Nothing. I am just- always mesmerized by your beauty, my love."

That comment was so unexpected that Lady Yuki couldn't help but blush and push him away.

"Hush, you!" she muttered in a low voice, flustered to no end.

Hao Xuan's smile widened even more as he looked back at Vlitgar with a victorious gaze.

"You see brother, we were um- 'entwined' with one another when I accidentally pushed against the wall and we came through without realizing. Maybe that's why it didn't detect her."

Lady Yuki's eyes widened from the shock of his words but all she could do was stare at her feet in embarrassment.

Thankfully it had the intended effect and Vlitgar did not ask for more details since it was embarrassing for everyone present.

"Wo-Oh, Ha-haha. Brother Jin, I did not expect you to have such a 'voracious' appetite!"

Hao Xuan scratched the back of his head in obvious false modesty to magnify the traits of his character that would appeal the most to someone like Vlitgar.

"I am usually not, brother," he said somewhat thoughtfully while stealing a glance at Lady Yuki's figure to really drive it home, "But when it comes to her I can barely control myself. Feels like we were made for each other..."

Lady Yuki on the other hand had no idea which part was true and which was made up but her ears began to turn red regardless from the 'barrage' of compliments.

Vlitgar accepted his words as truth and gave them a version of his blessing.

"All is according to their will, brother. You covered immeasurable distances to get here and now in the desert you find your true destiny. The sands welcome you as one of their own!"

Hao Xuan nodded along, "Perhaps you are right, brother."

Vlitgar actually seemed happy for them which was a real surprise for Hao Xuan. But that meant he was also interested in knowing more.

"How did you two come to meet, brother Jin? Last I saw you, you were much disheartened by the desert."

Hao Xuan cleared his throat, "Well, that is actually not a long story but one that I'd rather not share in the presence of strangers."

Vlitgar frowned while glancing around, "Strangers? It is just us here. Surely you do not mean your beloved, yes?"

Hao Xuan laughed, "Haha, of course not brother," and pointed at the mirror, "I was referring to the ones in there."

Vlitgar's brow rose out of interest while Lady Yuki finally raised her head in confusion.

"How perceptive of you...brother Jin," Vlitgar said while lightly tapping his foot.

His gaze was fixated on Hao Xuan as he tried to read his reaction. The mirror suddenly turned transparent, allowing five new individuals to come into view.

Lady Yuki gasped, "Black Magic!"

But Hao Xuan was unimpressed, "No, not magic," he muttered while approaching the other side of the room, "More like a communication device. It connects to a point in the Mirror World- or the 'upside down' or whatever it's called here. Other mirrors can connect to the same spot allowing for seamless and confidential transmission."

He looked over his shoulder at Vlitgar, "Seems we interrupted your meeting, brother. My sincerest apologies."

Vlitgar waved his hand, "It is no trouble. In fact-" he made his way over to stand shoulder to shoulder with Hao Xuan.

"I was going to introduce you to them soon enough. These five individuals make up what is left of the War Council. They are the current leading force of the Timoratus."

"Hoh...."

Hao Xuan looked them up and down but little could be made out since most of their forms were purposefully obscured by the mirror.

"A pleasure," he gave a nod before extending a hand towards Lady Yuki.

"Then we will take our leave and let you get back to work. I am sure you are pressed for time, brother."

Vlitgar bobbed his head up and down wearily, "That is indeed the case but...we must meet again soon."

"Of course," Hao Xuan agreed wholeheartedly, "I needed your opinion about a few things anyway."

They shook hands but then Vlitgar turned his attention towards the Lady Yuki before they could take their leave.

"It was a pleasure to make the acquaintance of um- I just realized I never asked for the Lasss' name."
