The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1546
This was obviously due to the foreign influence of this unknown energy but still, perhaps the worst part was that he could neither expel it nor retain complete control over his own body, something that he thought was next to impossible thanks to the Lycan bloodline.
Hao Xuan let out a deep breath trying to circulate more blood towards his hearts to forcefully increase his heartbeat but it was to no avail.
'How is this possible?! This energy has completely circumvented the main attribute of the Lycan bloodline and taken hold of my bodily functions...'
At first he was quite unnerved by this discovery but even after venturing deeper inside this 'hold on him' did not get any worse. Hao Xuan flexed his arms and legs to throw a few punches and kicks but an extreme bout of laziness kept him from doing so.
'Hmm. All it's doing is trying to keep me calm and prevent any negative actions from taking place- similar to a Divine Ordinance or a Heavenly Mandate forbidding violence but not as absolute. I'm sure if I circulated the full power of my bloodline these effects would be more or less negligible so... it's probably for the best that I keep acting oblivious.'
Preparing himself for the worst-case scenario, Hao Xuan kept up the facade of an ignorant slave and slightly increased his pace.
There were no people around so the only sound was coming from his own footsteps crunching on the fertile soil and the occasional gust of cool wind brushing past him.
The sunlight was pleasantly warm but not anywhere near hot enough as the outside. Hao Xuan extended his hand over the waist-high field of golden crops and grazed his fingers past the sharp bristles that protected its kernels.
It was strikingly similar to the wheat plants they had on Earth, which brought up its own memories.
It was roughly two minutes later that he ran into the first person here. It was a demihuman with some prominent rodent-like features, even stronger than those of Luz.
Hao Xuan waved at him when he finally detected his presence and showed him the envelope but the man ignored him outright and busied himself with pulling out the weeds, which he did not take to heart.
"Hello! Do you know where I am supposed to deliver this?" he asked warmly when they were just a few meters apart, even going as far as putting up a forced smile that the beastman could not even see.
He simply pointed behind him without even raising his head. Hao Xuan focused his vision in that direction to see a tiny wooden house a few hundred meters away surrounded by a patch of trees.
"Alright, thank you."
The beastman glanced at the envelope as he passed by, woefully shaking his head while Hao Xuan beelined for the house.
The house itself was a little over 50 square meters wide with a simple aesthetic without any gaudy embellishments. Several bird nests hung from the awning and a small garden surrounded the entire place.
'This is definitely the place. That foreign energy is purest in this area,' he thought surveying the surroundings.
But Hao Xuan's eyes narrowed as he knelt to inspect some of the herbs planted in the garden. They were exuding such potent natural energy that for a second he thought this was a Celestial Nursery.
Every plant, herb, flower, and root complimented each other to perfection, elevating one another to new heights. Several of the roots and flowers were even moving on their own, on the verge of gaining sentience and becoming true spiritual plants.
As Hao Xuan moved his hand across the soil he could sense several powerful spirit stones embedded just a few meters down- which almost made him cry.
"My god...full points for the effort but this is not how you do it!" he exclaimed tearfully.
The main door suddenly swung open and a girl walked out holding a basket full of gardening tools.
Her brow instantly wrinkled upon seeing Hao Xuan's figure but instead of asking who he was, she questioned his previous statement.
"Do you know a lot about taking care of precious herbs?" she questioned with obvious hostility.
Hao Xuan looked her up and down.
The girl seemed to be in her early twenties with a long amber-colored ponytail resting on her shoulder. She was dressed in a simple gown with dirt stains all over. Even her dainty fingers were covered in dirt and fertilizer.
But although she was dressed quite modestly, her beauty was second to none. With such picture-perfect features, she could easily be mistaken for a princess if she dressed up a little.
'Hmm. Looks like she maintains this garden. Must be a personal maid to the couple living here- or maybe even a young mistress. Then I don't need to be too careful around her I guess.'
He showed her the envelope, "I'm supposed to deliver this to someone. Is the lady of the house present?"
Her previously hostile aura was swiftly replaced by a more somber look as she placed the basket down and wiped her hands on her dress.
"Give it to me. I will pass it on to...her."
Hao Xuan didn't need to think twice about handing it over. The envelope was sealed by the writer's internal energy, even containing a few morsels of his Sword Aura. If anyone who wasn't meant to open it tried prying it open by force then they would probably end up dead.
"Here you go."
The girl took the envelope and ripped it open right in front of him, reading the few words that were hidden inside.
'I guess she is one of the trusted people. My work here is done.'
But as Hao Xuan turned around a question from her stopped him in his tracks.
"Do you think she is pitiful?"
