The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1446
"MY NAME IS RUFGAR AND I WILL BE YOUR ATTENDANT TODAY!"
The speaker's voice came blasting against their eardrums causing many to cover their ears. Hao Xuan used the spiritual threads to create a small barrier around his ears but thankfully he didn't need to use it for long.
Accompanied by the sound of thudding footsteps a creature that was an entire head taller than the golems walked out. It was a Minotaur, a mythical beast with the head and tail of a bull and the body of a man.
One of its four horns was broken from the root while the remaining three looked sharp enough to pierce the sturdiest of metals. He was wrapped around in different hides from top to bottom so most of his body was covered.
An enormous whip hung loosely from his hip as he squinted trying to read from a stone slab in his hand.
"Hmm. This is the Ogostin party yes?" he grumbled under his breath but even that was loud enough to be easily heard by everyone around.
Rufgar glanced up monetarily to see Ogostin absentmindedly nod at him.
"Good. You have paid for a full pass for all your slaves and servants. We are running low on time so get on quick. Anyone not on the ship in the next three minutes will be left behind, NO EXCEPTIONS!" he shouted before stepping to the side.
The lizardmen didn't need to be told twice. They scurried up the ramp in spades, dragging and pulling the cages that couldn't be carried by the golems. Then came the golems themselves and once everything was clear Hao Xuan tried to sneak in but was stopped by Rufgar's hand which was almost as big as his entire body.
He looked at Ogostin, "All slaves must be confined according to the regulations. We can't have any of them running around before the imprinting ritual is finished."
"He-" Ogostin tried to speak up but Hao Xuan was a tad bit faster.
"I'm not a slave, at least not his. Friend Ogostin has invited me along out of the kindness of his heart."
Rufgar's eyes narrowed. He bent down to get a better look at him.
"A friend? Invited out of kindness? Human, why are you lying to me!?" his nostrils flared.
"I am not, you can ask him," Hao Xuan turned towards Ogostin.
"Ah....Yes, I did invite him...I think...free of charge too? Why would I do that?" he muttered the last bit to himself almost in a daze.
Rufgar straightened his back, "The pass is only for his servants and slaves, NOT for friends."
Hao Xuan looked at him curiously, "But surely there must be something that can be done here."
Surprised by his confidence Rufgar looked at the slab again before grumbling, "Some allowances can be made if patron Ogostin is willing to refer you," he looked over at Ogostin, "But if the referred party does anything untoward within the city limits the referee will be held responsible. Do you agree?"
"Of course he agrees! What kind of a question is that?" Hao Xuan berated out of nowhere, "Do you think Ogostin of the house Scarle is someone who would make friends so willy-nilly, or even abandon them even if he did? What do you take him for? As the proud representative of his clan, he would never commit such dishonorable acts!"
Ogostin only tuned in halfway through but he agreed wholeheartedly with what little he heard.
"Right you are, friend Jin! The house Scarle might not be what it was in the past but we do not turn away our friends, ever!"
With a raised eyebrow Rufgar hovered his finger over the stone slab, "I just need to hear an explicit yes or a no."
"Yes! Obviously yes, isn't that right friend Ogostin?"
"Huh? Yes? For what?"
Unwilling to be a part of this conversation for a second longer Rufgar tapped on the slab, "Alright that's good enough for me. Get on now!" and turned around to walk into the city.
Hao Xuan gave a customary bow to Ogostin, "Thank you again, friend. I will not forget to repay this kindness!" and sprinted inside.
Ogostin stood there for a few seconds in shock, "Repay what? Yes...for what? What is happening?"
With a loud crank, the ramp began to raise prompting him to get inside before it was too late.
"W-WAIT! WAIT FOR ME!" he jumped in.
Inside all the lizardmen were huddled in one corner busy putting chains and collars around each of the new slaves. Hao Xuan walked past them at a brisk pace and went straight to the counter where Rufgar was sitting.
It was so big that he couldn't even see over it.
"Excuse me, I would like to borrow some clothes."
Rufgar leaned forward to check who it was and his apathetic expression did not change one bit after finding out.
"Mhm, the human 'friend' of the patron. It is good that you have come to me yourself. The matter of your payment needs to be discussed."
