The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1471
Both Ackey and Pan went silent for a moment before speaking to each other in a language that Ruslan could not understand.
"Tufala bi malaka wo istay?" Pan asked a question to which Ackey responded with a slow nod.
Pan turned towards Ruslan, "Your plan, what is it?"
"To get closer to the Song children and drive a wedge between her and the current matriarch of the Clan. If I can talk to her one-on-one, there will be a high chance she will be willing to listen to what we have to say. There is something that she doesn't know about her past that will change everything..."
Ackey patted Ruslan on the back and walked away, "Summon Sedit since their destinations are the same. His avatar should be close by."
His figure began to turn blurry before melting into the shadows just seconds later, leaving only Pan and Ruslan behind.
Pan met Ruslan's cautious gaze to inform him of what was coming.
"Sedit is one of our best assassins in the Abyss. We had planned to set a trap for one of the other travelers on your ship, a boy called 'Rain' that is greatly favored by one of the Nine, the 'Forgotten Horror'. Sedit was meant to rid of the boy before he could get to the sanctum and receive his mark."
Ruslan's brow wrinkled in confusion, "I don't understand-"
"This ship cannot reach its destination," Pan relayed the grim news, "There are far too many of the Sanctum's younger generation present, if the Timoratus spoke to even one of them then it could put our plans in jeopardy. And we will not take that chance, understand?"
"So what should I...?"
"See if you can convert the Song girl in time but if not- she will go down with the rest. I will send a tendril of the great army in your direction, use them wisely. Do whatever you have to, kill or convert as many as you can...not that it will make a difference in the end. But above all else, make sure the boy 'Rain' and the Timoratus die in Sedit's hands."
Ruslan didn't really have much choice in the matter so all he could do was nod in agreement.
"As you wish."
Pan grinned contently, knowing full well that this would put Ruslan between a rock and a hard place.
"Good human. One of my underlings will soon board the ship to aid in this endeavor. She will relay all other information to you and help control with the swarm. Prepare yourself for the coming bloodshed," he turned around to leave but while his figure was melting away into the shadows he gave one last command.
"If there are any new developments you will come to me directly, do not let us down!"
Ruslan took out some powder and sprinkled it all over the alley to hide the stench of sulfur. Then he gave one last bow from the waist until all traces of their presence had been washed away before making his way out.
A few minutes later Hao Xuan walked out of the tailor shop wearing a simple black robe. It was neither new nor special in any way but at least it was clean and properly fitting.
Disheartened, he checked the pouch which seemed to be much lighter than before.
"Tsk, only 43 gold coins left. How poor are these people? I would have to rob thousands to have something substantial-" but he froze mid-rant upon smelling something in the air.
"Hmm?" his brow furrowed as Hao Xuan followed the fumes and made his way over to the now vacant alley.
"It stops here," he mumbled while sniffing the air.
If he stepped a few meters to the left or the right there were still some fumes to be found but here? it had been cleaned out.
He bent down to run his fingers through the white powder, sniffing the particles to make sure it was what he thought it was.
"Demons!" he exclaimed while jumping to his feet to look for more clues.
'This is recent, barely a few minutes old!'
He ran out to the street and then to the one over to the next to look for anything out of the ordinary but came up empty-handed. After returning to the 'scene of the crime' he took another look.
'No marks, unknown energies, or magic circles. It must have been an artifact of some kind or an ability. They were communing with demons but were not tainted themselves. A sympathizer or a convert?'
He walked back out to see how far the tailor's shop was.
'It was so close but I didn't sense anything until now. They were trying their best to keep a low profile and...it probably wasn't related to me, although that's difficult to assume. But I would have sensed some ill will if that were the case.'
