Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 108: Divine Justice From The Skies

Finally, the handcuffs snapped shut with a heavy metallic click.

The sudden splash of bird droppings caused the surrounding officers to recoil three steps in unison. "Does this count as a workplace injury? It definitely should!"

The water police officers escorting the suspects were wearing multiple layers of masks, yet they couldn't hide the looks of utter disgust on their faces.

Shortly after the water police arrived, Captain Sam and the Criminal Investigation Team pulled up at the riverbank. When the water police handed over the three tomb raiders, they looked positively relieved—as if they were finally getting rid of three walking biological weapons.

"Quick, quick! Take them!" the water police urged, nudging the suspects forward while backpedaling themselves. "These are your precious leads, fresh out of the oven and still steaming!"

The criminal investigators recoiled the second they got close. "Good lord—"

Sam covered his nose and turned to Nancy and Simon. "What on earth happened out there?"

With a sheepish grin, Nancy recounted the "aerial bombardment" carried out by the Heron Army.

Sam stood there, dumbfounded. He could only manage a stuttered remark: "Well... that certainly gives a whole new meaning to 'divine justice.'"

"Wait, you said there were four people on the boat, but we only have three. Where’s the driver?" asked a young man wearing glasses.

This was Neil, an officer who was close with Jack and had assisted him in cracking two major cases.

Nancy scratched her head. "He managed to slip away."

But I have a little spy following him, she thought. Simon’s earlier analysis suggested that since high-value artifacts are difficult to move quickly, the crew had likely stashed their previous hauls somewhere. Even if they interrogated these three, they might not talk. Letting the driver go and tracking him with animal spies was the best way to find their main hideout.

Neil frowned at the news of the escape. "We only found digging tools on the boat, but not a single antique. Without the artifacts, we can't prove they’ve actually looted anything. If these three seasoned pros keep their mouths shut..."

Neil turned a resentful glare toward Nancy. "Aren't you supposed to be an animal communicator? With all these animals at your beck and call, how did you let a prime suspect get away?"

His tone was thick with accusation. "That man was probably our best breakthrough."

Nancy let out a cold laugh, her gaze sharpening as she looked Neil in the eye. "That’s an interesting take. If I were really that omniscient, maybe I should just train a genius police dog to take your job instead?"

Simon nodded in agreement, his voice icy. "Not a bad idea. At least a police dog wouldn't spend its time mocking a colleague who just handed over three suspects on a silver platter, right?"

Neil’s face turned a deep shade of crimson, silenced by the siblings' stinging retort.

"Now, now, that's enough," Sam stepped in, patting Simon firmly on the shoulder. "Suspects escape; it’s part of the job. The fact that you two tracked them all the way here, uncovered a major conspiracy, and caught three of them is incredible work. A merit medal is definitely coming your way!"

Nancy nodded. With so many people around, she couldn't mention the water snake spy yet. She would tell Sam privately.

Just then, three large, dark water snakes slithered out from the shadows near the bank and coiled at Nancy's feet. One of them even rested its tail on Neil’s leather shoe. Neil froze instantly, standing as stiff as a metal rod.

The leader of the adult water snakes looked up. "Ms. Nancy, we’ve been tailing those three since they jumped into the water. We found the location of the underwater tomb."

"Want us to show you?"

Nancy’s eyes lit up. She turned to Sam. "Captain, the snakes say they found the underwater tomb!"

"A real underwater tomb?!" Sam’s energy returned instantly. If the robbers had left traces in the tomb, securing a conviction would be much easier. He turned to his deputy. "Secure the perimeter! Set up a rotating guard immediately. I’m calling the Archaeological Research Institute!"

The large water snake continued, "It’s an underwater shipwreck! We even met some relatives living in the hull. They said a group of humans has been harassing them lately. But tonight, those idiots tripped an underwater trap in the wreck, created a whirlpool, and had to bolt!"

Nancy understood now why the suspects had resurfaced so quickly. They had run right into the ancient defenses designed to keep looters out.

"It’s too late tonight, and the archaeologists aren't here yet," Nancy told the snake. "You can lead them down there tomorrow."
