Barry replied instantly: "Nothing to be weird about. I hired the translator. Traffic is a mess, give me ten minutes."

Nancy’s eyes widened. That explained it.

The lounge door pushed open again, and a tall, confident figure stepped in. It was Jack, looking every bit the elite professional in a sharp suit. He stood in the center of the room, radiating an air of authority that naturally drew everyone's focus.

Jack stepped forward and greeted Callum in the local language he’d clearly just started learning. Compared to Nancy’s fluid tone, his pronunciation was stiff and clunky.

Chandler beamed, introducing him with pride. "Mr. Callum, this is my son, Jack. He's a specialist currently working with the police."

He put extra weight on the word specialist, shooting a dismissive glance at Nancy.

"He just got back from an overseas mission assisting criminal investigators with an extradition. He brought a wanted fugitive back into the country. In fact, he’s the one who deployed the entire security system for this horse show."

Chandler’s voice swelled with pride. "With him here, you can rest easy. No criminal would dare try anything under his watch."

Nancy nearly lost it. The biggest criminal in the room was standing right in front of her.

Callum nodded, sounding genuinely impressed. "Jack seems like a man of great integrity. A police specialist at such a young age. Truly remarkable. It seems the Summers family values honor and reliability. Very admirable."

After hearing the translation, Chandler couldn't hide his smugness. "Of course. As a leading enterprise in Dracovia, Summers Corp has always been a pillar of the industry. We pride ourselves on doing things the right way."

He straightened his tie, his voice ringing with false conviction. "In the veterinary field, we are undisputed pioneers."

Nancy looked at her phone, watching the glowing dot of her brother’s location get closer and closer. She finally let out a soft, sharp laugh.

Reliable? More like liable. Pioneers? She was thinking more along the lines of prisoners.

The sound of her laugh cut through the quiet room. Callum and the Summers family all turned to look at her. Callum looked confused, but Jack took it as a sign that Nancy was simply bitter because he was stealing the spotlight.

Jack took a step toward her, his tone dripping with condescending grace. "Nancy, come back to the family. I’ll give you the best resources and let you work on high-level cases. I can even get you in touch with Interpol to work on international crimes. That’s the kind of stage you need if you want to move up fast."

He tilted his chin up slightly. "I’m willing to overlook all your previous insults."

Nancy just arched an eyebrow. "Sorry. I’m only laughing because what you just said... was genuinely hilarious."

Seeing his son's olive branch rejected, Chandler snorted. "It is funny, Nancy. Because you’re the only joke in this room."

Before he could finish, the side doors swung open. Ginnie walked in wearing a crisp white lab coat, her gold-rimmed glasses giving her a cold, intellectual look. She moved with poise, followed by six veterinary experts. Each wore a badge showing international certifications. They moved in sync, creating an intimidating wall of professional authority.

Ginnie gave Callum a formal nod. "Mr. Callum, the Summers Corp international team is ready. We can begin the full examination whenever you like."

It was a hell of a show. The father and son in their expensive suits, Ginnie leading her squad of experts. They all fanned out in a semi-circle around Nancy. The sheer weight of their numbers was meant to crush her.

In the middle of the storm, Nancy was casually snacking on a tray of pastries a waiter had just brought in.

Chandler looked at her with pure disgust. "Some people just have poverty in their blood," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear. "Can't even keep her hands off the food. She looks like she hasn't eaten in a week."

Nancy wasn't bothered. She picked up a delicate macaron and smiled. "These are actually really good. You sure you don't want one?"

Her smile widened, but her eyes were cold. "I’d suggest you eat up while you can."

"I doubt you'll be getting snacks this fancy where you're going."

Ginnie frowned. "Nancy, you're talking nonsense because you're desperate. There's nothing the Summers family can't afford."

She turned back to Callum with a professional smile. "Mr. Callum, don't worry. Summers Corp will be looking after your horse every step of the way today."
