Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 466: The Fall
Antonio stepped forward, standing firm on the shore. He pointed one hand toward the sky where the snow had begun to fade and the other toward Nancy on her snowmobile. "Look closely, Langstrom. In the air, we have eagles; on the ground, we have allies. If you do not want anyone to know what you have done, you should not have done it. Evil always leaves a trail."
Langstrom’s pupils shrank, and the last bit of color drained from his face.
However, a second later, his despair twisted into a more extreme form of madness. He hoisted the silver reagent case he had been clutching to his chest high above his head. In his other hand, he held a miniature remote control flashing with a steady red light.
"Do not move!" he shrieked, his finger hovering over the button. "I have rigged the case with an induction detonator! If I am not leaving, this reagent stays here with me!"
His voice, warped by agitation, echoed across the open swamp. "You know better than I do how precious these ten Elpis core reagents are. Their value, their strategic significance... clear a path for me now and prepare a vehicle, or else…"
His finger pressed down slightly, and the red light flashed faster. "...I will let them evaporate right here in this mud pit!"
The air froze. Every officer went rigid, their muzzles dipping slightly, terrified of provoking him.
Antonio’s face turned grim. He raised a hand and said in a heavy voice, "Langstrom! Do not do anything reckless! Think of the consequences!"
"Consequences?" Langstrom gave a tragic laugh. "My consequences were set the moment I lost my daughter! I knew the rest of my life would be nothing but bitterness. But now, it is you who will suffer the consequences of losing the core reagents!"
In this moment of life and death, while everyone else was fixed on the professor and his lethal box, Nancy’s gaze locked onto the silver case like an ice pick. In a concealed motion, she tapped her radio twice to signal the two divine eagles in the sky.
High above, the eyes of Lucky and Harmony narrowed, turning into high powered telescopic lenses. Every detail of the scene became crystal clear to them.
"Langstrom! Put the case down!"
Antonio’s roar echoed across Murky Bay. Simon’s hand was already on his holster. The tension between the two sides was at a breaking point.
At that exact millisecond…
Crack! Splash!
The escape raft Langstrom was standing on, a crude construction of withered wood and vines, abruptly disintegrated.
"Ah!" Amidst the shocked cries, Langstrom and his three accomplices lost their footing and plunged into the freezing black mire.
The moment the raft came apart, a small, wet, white head popped out from the murky water. It was Snowball.
The ermine was not just a master of scent tracking; he was an expert swimmer. With an animal army that could dominate the sky and the land, how could the water be left unguarded? Nancy had dispatched Special Agent Snowball to lie in wait the moment they reached Murky Bay. Raft ropes were no match for those sharp teeth.
Snowball’s little paws paddled furiously like mini propellers. He shot through the water, leaving a trail of tiny bubbles as he headed for Nancy on the shore. His eyes were full of the smug satisfaction of a job well done.
When the Snowball squad moves, no one else stands a chance!
Simultaneously, Lucky moved. He stopped circling and tucked his wings, turning into a gray thunderbolt as he dove straight down. His talons, covered in hard scales, clamped onto the handle of the reagent case just before it hit the water.
With a powerful beat of his wings that sent mud flying, he yanked the heavy box away from the surface. A Gyrfalcon’s talons functioned like pliers; once the toes gripped an object, the tendons automatically locked, allowing them to maintain a firm hold without continuous effort. He could maintain total control over the inanimate box with ease.
At the same time, Harmony’s target was even more precise. He swept in from the flank, his sharp beak striking like black lightning at Langstrom’s arm as the man flailed in panic.
"Ugh!" Langstrom felt a sharp pain in his wrist. The lethal remote control flew from his hand, arching through the air.
Harmony performed a graceful mid air turn, caught the remote in his talons, and soared back into the sky.
"Help... help me! It is so cold! There is something in the water!"
Langstrom and his cohorts thrashed about in the chest deep mud, looking utterly pathetic. Their earlier madness had vanished, replaced by the terror of drowning and the biting chill.
On the shore, Lucky landed steadily beside Nancy and gently set down the intact reagent case. The police bomb disposal experts rushed forward immediately.
