Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 226: The Great Escape

4 min 1 views

Nancy walked around the zoo, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing.

Then it hit her.

From earlier until now, Snowy—the ermine who usually clung to her like a shadow—hadn't shown his face once! Her little "wireless mouse" was gone!

Snowy was even more clingy than Star. Nancy quickly started asking around, "Has anyone seen Snowy?"

The Great Tabby King, having finished his construction supervision, lazily licked a paw and drawled, "That brat was drooling over a flock of hens earlier today." He probably slipped off to the coop to cause some trouble."

Nancy's heart skipped a beat, and she bolted toward the chicken coop!

To get there, she had to pass the lawn where Barry's RV was parked. But before she even reached the coop, she saw the scene on the grass and nearly fainted on the spot.

The hens had somehow successfully "broken out" of their coop. They were now strolling across the lawn in small groups, looking perfectly calm and composed. Even worse, several of them were perched grandly atop Barry's polished, luxury RV, treating it like their personal observation deck.

"This area is much more spacious! What a lovely place for a stroll!"

"This giant carriage is so beautiful. I want to go inside for a visit!"

Star, seeing so many "new neighbors" on the lawn, wagged his tail in excitement. "Wow! So many hens today! It's so lively!"

His loud bark and enthusiastic energy sent the flock scattering in a panic. For a moment, it was total chaos—chickens flying and dogs jumping!

Right then, the RV door opened with a click from the inside. Barry, having heard Star's commotion, appeared at the door holding a bowl of dog food. "Star, stop it. Come in for dinner—"

Nancy's soul nearly left her body. She screamed, "Barry! Don't open the door!"

But it was too late.

Star, smelling the meaty bones, launched himself toward the RV like a rocket. The hens, desperate to escape him, turned into a fluffy whirlwind and surged through the open door right behind the dog!

The moment Barry opened the door, he was met with a blast of flying feathers and flapping wings. Several hens flew straight at him, practically burying him under a cloud of poultry!

Barry, a man who had survived a hail of bullets, reacted with incredible speed. The second he heard the wings, his arm went up to shield his head and face. Several hens flapped past him, some even grazing the top of his head.

He instinctively dodged, stepping back from the RV door onto the lawn. Once he regained his footing, he watched the rest of the "main force" in stunned silence.

Flock after flock of hens crowded into his exquisitely decorated RV like they were heading to a village fair.

With a thud, the bowl of dog food slipped from Barry's hand and hit the ground.

Nancy, thinking it was over, it was all over, lowered her head and tried to slip past Barry to rescue the scene inside, not daring to look him in the eye. But after two steps, her collar was snagged by a large hand.

Barry's deep voice squeezed through his teeth. "Nancy! How exactly did you promise me I could rest easy because 'the hens definitely can't get out'?"

Nancy shrunk her neck, trying to play it off. "The staff cleans the coop every day... I guess some little troublemaker wanting to 'steal a chicken' must have done something bad!"

Seeing Barry's gaze darken further, she quickly pointed into the RV and gasped, "Oh!" Don't worry about that now! Look at that one! It—it's about to squat!"

"No! No pooping in there!"

A vein throbbed in Barry's temple. Forgetting his interrogation, he lunged for the RV.

Barry and Nancy formed an "emergency chicken-catching squad" on the spot. Nancy spotted a hen trying to dive under the sofa and made a desperate pounce! Instead of catching the chicken, she collided with Barry, who was flanking from the other side, sending him toppling onto the sofa.

"Oof!"

The two tumbled together in a heap. The noise sent the newly settled hens into another flying frenzy. To make matters worse, Star, wanting to help, charged onto the vehicle with excitement.

His entry was like a heavy bomb. The flock completely lost their minds, wings flapping wildly as they knocked over a water glass and ripped down a curtain with a loud tear. For a moment, the RV was filled with floating feathers and utter chaos.

In the middle of the mess, two hens chased by Star flew straight at Nancy's face. Barry reacted instantly, reaching out to pull her head into his chest to shield her.

Tucked into that embrace that smelled of crisp, clean air, Nancy's face flushed hot, and her heart began to pound.
