Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 377: The Frozen Trap
Right then, Master Crow’s urgent cawing crackled through the comms.
"The four of them have stopped! They have set up camp in a sheltered glacial canyon to the north. Two are hunkered down in a tent, and the other two are spread out patrolling the perimeter!"
Nancy’s gaze sharpened as she turned toward Graham. "Reporting! The targets have ceased movement. Location is the northern glacial canyon. Two inside the tent, two on patrol!"
With the real-time visuals and positioning data sent back by the avian sentries, the technicians moved fast. They constructed a 3D holographic map of the enemy hideout on their monitors. Every rock face and every possible flanking path in the canyon was rendered with crystalline clarity. Without even setting foot on the scene, the entire team already knew the terrain like the back of their hands.
Graham slammed his fist onto the table after finalizing the tactics based on the animal intel. "This is it! Their forces are split, giving us the perfect opening to take them out one by one. Move out!"
On his command, several squads unsheathed like daggers, vanishing silently into the pitch black snowy plains to execute the arrests. Each team was led by an ermine and a mountain bird. Relying on natural instinct and their local knowledge, the animals picked the most concealed and efficient routes, expertly dodging ice crevasses and pockets of loose snow. Their marching speed far exceeded their usual limits.
Nancy and Simon, accompanied by the lynx and Snowball, headed toward their objective. Their primary mission was to seize every piece of the enemy's classified equipment.
Guided by the pinpoint accuracy of their furry sentries, they reached the target area quickly. The enemy camp was cleverly tucked away in a rocky hollow deep within the glacial canyon. The tents blended almost perfectly with the stone walls; without the eyes in the sky to guide them, finding the spot would have been nearly impossible.
Once they confirmed the targets were stationary and dug in, Nancy reached into her soft pet carrier and pulled out the pika that had guided them earlier. The little creature’s three-lobed mouth was still busy twitching as it chewed on a grass root.
"I have never tasted grass roots this fresh in the winter!"
Nancy gently tapped its wet little nose. "Can you do me one more favor? Dig a quiet tunnel near their camp so Snowball can get close enough to overhear them."
The pika straightened its round body immediately. "Work is easy on a full stomach! I will get the brothers to help. We will have it done fast and hidden!"
The pika digging crew went to work. Before long, a concealed passage took shape beneath the layer of snow. Snowball and two other ermine followers slid their long, slick bodies into the tunnel like eels, slipping silently beneath the enemy camp.
Inside the tent, a thin man wearing glasses tapped rapidly at a laptop keyboard, a smug grin plastered on his face.
"The monitoring equipment we deployed is running perfectly, all tucked away in those stupid animal dens." He pushed up his glasses, his tone arrogant. "This system I developed can catch every move the Dracovian military makes. They would never dream their secrets are leaking through a rabbit hole."
The large man beside him let out a low chuckle, shoving a piece of compressed rations into his mouth. "We have been lurking here for days and the military hasn't even caught a shadow of us. Five years of planning, and it is absolutely seamless."
"Don't get cocky," the man with glasses said without looking up, his voice turning cold. "The resources and manpower poured into this exceed your imagination. We have to secure the test data for Dracovia’s new tanks and get out clean."
The big man uncapped a water bottle. "The other three guys have retreated into the mountains too. Should I send the patrol to link up with them?"
"No," the strategist snapped, vetoing the idea instantly. "Everyone moves separately. That way, if something goes south, someone can still escape to report back."
He hit the enter key with a heavy thud, finally leaning back in his chair with a satisfied look. "Done. Mission accomplished."
He pointed to a uniquely shaped button on a piece of metal equipment, instructing the big man. "This is the final fail-safe. All the monitoring data sent back from the animal dens funnels through here."
His expression turned grave. "If... and I mean if things go wrong, hit this button immediately. All information will be wiped clean within three seconds. It is unrecoverable." He pushed up his glasses again, a cold light reflecting off the lenses. "If it comes to that, we ditch the gear and evacuate. We cannot leave them a single thing of research value."
The big man laughed dismissively, patting the weapon at his waist. "A worst-case scenario? Please. I doubt we will ever need it."
