The assistant's voice scrambled from outside the door.

Ginnie opened it, a smug grin spreading across her face as she looked at the frantic man. "What is it? It’s been less than ten minutes. Did Nancy screw up already?"

Brandon stood by, looking exactly as if he’d expected this. "I told you. People like her are too restless to be reliable."

The two of them started walking briskly out of the imaging suite, talking over the assistant. The poor guy struggled to keep up, desperate to get a word in.

Brandon and Ginnie rounded the corner of the hallway and ran straight into Callum, who was heading their way.

"Mr. Brandon? Where are you going?" Callum asked, startled by their aggressive pace.

Brandon didn't slow down. "Mr. Callum, it’s only been ten minutes and Nancy is already in over her head." He shot a sharp look at the assistant. "What’s the situation? Is the horse hemorrhaging?"

The assistant swallowed hard and whispered, "No... no, sir. It’s Dr. Nancy. She already finished. She got the object out."

"What?!"

Ginnie and Brandon froze as if they'd been struck by lightning. Their faces turned a frantic shade of red, then deathly pale. "That’s impossible."

"Nobody works that fast!"

The translator relayed the news to Callum. His expression shifted instantly from worry to pure joy. "Really? My God! It’s been less than ten minutes!"

While Callum was ecstatic, Brandon and Ginnie remained rooted to the spot. Their professional composure had shattered, leaving nothing but shock and disbelief.

Nancy walked out of the OR leading a rejuvenated Cloud. She met Ginnie and Brandon’s stunned glares with a calm look.

"Sorry to disappoint you," she said clearly. "I might not have a PhD, but for a simple procedure like this, I don't need ten days. Ten minutes is plenty."

Nancy’s gaze swept over the Summers Corp experts, her smile widening as she looked at Ginnie. "By the way, I’m an independent vet now. If the Summers Corp experts want to learn this technique, they’ll have to pay for the lesson."

Without another word to them, she handed Cloud’s lead rope to Callum.

"Mr. Callum, the needle is out. From now on, he won't stop during his runs. You can take him for a light jog right now. As long as you avoid heavy exertion for a few days, the incision won't be an issue."

"No! There's no need to test it!" Callum gripped the rope, his voice thick with emotion. "I believe you. You're the most talented vet I've ever met!"

His words made every other expert in the room flush with embarrassment.

Callum was so overwhelmed that he began pulling off four gemstone rings from his fingers. He followed that with the diamond-encrusted watch on his right wrist and shoved them all into Nancy’s hands. "Ms. Nancy! As soon as the show ends, the three million dollars will be in your account. Take these for now!"

Less than ten minutes of work, and three million dollars was in the bag.

Nancy looked at the pile of flashing jewelry in her hands. Her heart was racing. These were high-seven-figure items. The diamond watch was so heavy she could barely hold it with one hand.

She turned and dumped the whole pile into Barry’s arms. "Hold these for me! I have something important to discuss with Mr. Callum."

Barry raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile appearing in his eyes. "Am I your personal assistant now?"

Despite the remark, he held them securely, playing the role of the reliable vault for Nancy’s performance bonus.

Nancy’s grin was practically glowing. "Of course. I was the star of the show today!"

She turned back to Callum, her voice dropping to a serious whisper. "Mr. Callum, regarding why that needle was in Cloud in the first place... I found something we need to discuss in private."

Callum understood immediately. He was just as desperate to know who had left a lethal object in his horse’s vein.

He turned to the rest of the room, dismissing the businessmen and the other vets. "The issue is resolved. Thank you all for coming. Please enjoy the rest of the event. I’m afraid I have private matters to attend to."

If he had known better, he would have just stuck with Barry's recommendation from the start. He’d wasted so much time with these hacks who almost let Cloud suffer even more.

The remaining vets looked at each other, their faces full of resentment and shame. They had arrived with such fanfare, only to be dismissed like temporary labor. They slunk out under the host's clear orders, muttering to themselves as they left.
