Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 472: The Dream Home
"It was nothing."
Simon’s Adam's apple bobbed as he spoke. His voice was a bit hoarse, yet exceptionally firm.
The three of them said nothing more, simply holding each other in a tight embrace. The newly hung light strips beneath the eaves bathed them in a generous, warm red glow, making even the winter wind seem to soften around them.
Not far away, Barry sat quietly on the steps in front of the villa, his palm resting on Star’s furry head. The moment he saw Tammy’s face, every doubt and suspicion he had harbored back in the snowy Northeast vanished instantly.
Watching the family of three, and seeing the radiant, shadowless smile on Nancy’s face, a soft sense of relief settled in his heart.
This is good.
Nancy’s mother was finally home.
Pinned between Tammy and Simon, Nancy felt like she could hardly breathe. She thought dizzily to herself. Is this what they mean by being smothered by happiness?
Nancy managed to wiggle out just enough to catch a glimpse of Barry and Star sitting on the steps of the forest villa. Barry was watching her with a calm, steady gaze and a smile on his lips.
Her heart warmed. She gently patted her mother and brother. "Alright, alright. It is freezing out here. Why don't we... go inside and check out my new quarters?"
Tammy’s gaze turned softly toward Barry. "Good idea. Mr. Goodman, would you mind showing us around?"
Her tone was calm, yet it held a natural familiarity. As the head of the Elpis project, she had worked closely with the Goodman Corp Medical Research Center and had reviewed Barry’s detailed files long ago.
This top surgical expert, only twenty six years old, had not only provided flawless conditions for cooperation, but his team’s data reports were impressively rigorous. He was known within the project group as one of the most reliable partners.
Naturally, she had a clear impression of the name. She just had not expected this young man, who was so sharp in his professional field, to be so well acquainted with her daughter.
It was quite the coincidence.
While Barry had never dealt directly with the head of Elpis, he had harbored his own suspicions back in the Northeast. Now, as their eyes met, a flicker of mutual understanding passed between them.
Barry’s lips curved into a polite, warm smile. He stepped aside and made a gesture of invitation. "In that case, Nancy and her family, please follow me."
Stepping inside, Nancy realized this was far more than just a luxurious residence. It was a dream home tailored specifically for her and all her furry companions.
The villa had more rooms than she could count, all unified by a warm forest fairy tale theme, yet each held its own clever design to simulate the environments of different animals.
But what truly brought tears to Nancy’s eyes were the details integrated throughout for her animal friends.
In one corner of the living room stood a small, exquisite wooden slide and climbing frame, hung with soft plush toys. A delicate wooden aerial track extended from a second floor window, connecting securely to a branch of a large tree outside. That was a private highway for the squirrel brothers.
Almost every door featured a smaller, custom entrance at the bottom. A rounded arch painted with a small fish was clearly reserved for Tabby King. Another low door with a hanging fur ball was Snowball’s exclusive passage.
In a quiet, shaded corner, there was even a simulated rough tree stump with carefully crafted hollows. That was a bedroom for the little bats to roost in at night.
Nancy’s fingers brushed the smooth edge of the slide as a wave of warmth filled her chest. These were details she had only mentioned in passing during casual chats with Barry, fragments of a fantasy about what an ideal home would look like.
"It would be great to have a slide; Snowball would love it. Bobby always bumps into the window sill; a dedicated passage would stop him from hitting the glass. We need a door for the tabby; he is smart enough to use it himself."
Scattered comments she might have forgotten herself had been remembered by Barry, word for word, and turned into reality.
She turned around to look at Barry, who was following quietly behind her. He was leaning over slightly to straighten a slipper that Star had brought over, his profile looking exceptionally soft in the warm light.
Sensing her gaze, Barry straightened up and met her eyes. He did not say a word, but the clear smile in his eyes seemed to ask, Do you like it?
Every unspoken effort and every bit of affection hidden within those fairy tale details spoke louder than words.
