Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 185: The Crow Report
Nancy had long since pushed the invitation to speak at the Opening Ceremony to the back of her mind.
Just then, Jensen's gaze inadvertently caught the figures of the siblings. He asked with some surprise, "Nancy? You two worked this late before heading off?"
Nancy gave a lighthearted smile, her tone cheerful. "Yes. There weren't many leads today, so I wanted to look a bit more. I didn't realize it had gotten this late."
Jensen's expression was gentle as he nodded. "You've worked hard."
The three girls who were setting up the banners overheard the conversation and, wide-eyed, they looked over with a mix of shock and doubt. One of them spoke up timidly, "Professor Jensen... is this lady actually Nancy?"
Nancy turned around and offered them a frank, beaming smile. "That's right, I'm Nancy! I'm currently the director of Loren Zoo and an animal communicator."
"By the way, our zoo is having an Open Day in the middle of this month with student discounts! You're all welcome to come and visit!"
The three girls remembered their earlier gossip about Nancy. Looking at the senior before them—with her delicate features, bright deer-like eyes, and a generous attitude that held no grudges—their faces instantly turned beet red.
It was beyond embarrassing; they had been caught red-handed badmouthing the very person standing in front of them!
"Nancy, we're so sorry! We didn't understand the situation... we have big mouths..."
"We'll definitely help promote the Open Day!" I'm the head of the publicity department; I know a lot of people and I'm in so many group chats!"
The third girl was about to apologize as well when she suddenly stared at her phone and shrieked, "Oh my god! Our takeout was stolen!"
She looked devastated. "Brad just went to pick it up. I even sent him a photo of the drop-off point, but when he got there, it was gone!"
The other two girls' faces fell instantly as they wailed, "No way! We've been working all day and we're starving." What kind of monster steals takeout?!"
"We worked ourselves to the bone and ordered a feast to reward ourselves, and now our world has collapsed!"
"There's been a serial takeout thief on campus lately. It must be that person again!"
The three of them looked like withered eggplants, slumped over in frustration.
Jensen frowned, his tone serious. "The campus security office has indeed received many complaints about stolen takeout lately." He sighed. "I'll have them increase patrols. It's truly a shame for such things to happen on campus."
As he spoke, he took several cafeteria meal vouchers from his briefcase and handed them to the girls. "Use these to get something at the cafeteria today. Don't go hungry."
The three of them brightened up immediately. "Thank you, Professor Jensen!"
Seeing this, Nancy took a step forward with a smile. "Tomorrow, I'll ask the small animals near the drop-off points and see if they noticed who's been taking the food."
The girls' eyes lit up with surprise. "Really? Small animals can actually help find a thief?"
Nancy nodded. "It's worth a try."
"Thank you so much, Nancy!" they said excitedly. "Actually, the stolen food isn't the main thing—it's the principle of it!"
Jensen also cast a grateful look at Nancy. "Then I'll leave it to you, Nancy."
After saying his piece and offering a few more words of comfort, Jensen checked the time and hurried away. Nancy and Simon also set off on their way home.
The next morning, Nancy arrived at Townsville University again with Simon to continue the investigation, her backpack filled with detective gear. Snowy and the Squirrel Bros were with her.
Upon arrival, the Squirrel Bros skillfully scurried up the branches near the Second Teaching Building to resume their stakeout for any animal witnesses. Nancy, meanwhile, was pondering which senior cat she should approach to find out the whereabouts of the Tabby.
Just then, a familiar caw echoed from the sky. Nancy looked up, her eyes brightening. She held out her arms to welcome the arrival of Master Crow.
The crow dived and landed steadily on Nancy's forearm.
"Boss, Boss! Any news?" Nancy asked in a low, eager whisper.
She hadn't forgotten Luna, the veterinarian Ginnie had poached from her. Nancy held the high-cost liquidated damages clause for Luna's contract. She just wasn't sure if Ginnie was still willing to pay the astronomical compensation for that "pawn" after the plan to sabotage the red panda's surgery had failed.
This might be an opportunity for internal infiltration. Therefore, Nancy had asked Master Crow to use his bird network to keep a close eye on Luna's movements and status these past few days.
Master Crow let out a loud caw of laughter. "You have no idea! It's been so satisfying to watch!"
"That wicked vet Luna is being isolated at the Summers family's pet hospital!"
"Hmph! That's what she gets for not treating a red panda's life like a life! Karma has finally come for her!"
