Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 461: The Reluctant Model
The Gyrfalcon ruffled its magnificent feathers, its tone a mix of pride and weary resignation.
"My main job now is posing for tourist photos and the occasional cultural performance. My talons and wings are practically rusting away from boredom!"
It was exactly as the bird described. At the end of the last century, hunting had been completely banned in these lands. The hunters of old had laid down their rifles and found new ways to make a living. The Gyrfalcons, once the elite hunters of the sky, had transitioned into symbols of ethnic culture. The art of falconry had become a precious piece of intangible cultural heritage.
Nancy reached out and gently tapped the tip of Harmony's beak, a move that made the surrounding onlookers hold their breath.
"Right now, there is a dangerous villain hiding in the mountains who is threatening the safety of this place. Shall we go together and bring back this most dangerous prey? Do you want to be a hunting falcon of the sky once more?"
Harmony shook its wings in excitement. "I have waited for this day for far too long! My skills were almost starting to fade!"
Nancy smiled and gestured toward Simon, helping him put on the leather guard Barry had provided. "That is my brother, Simon. Just like you and Lucky, Simon and I are partners. We are hunters who specialize in catching bad people. Can you partner with Simon this time? We will work together as a team."
"I am in!"
Without another word, Harmony spread its wings and shot through the air, landing firmly on Simon’s raised arm.
Once settled, the bird did not forget to turn its head and give its former owner a jaunty little nod.
"Old friend, I have found a new partner for a mission! I am off to seek some excitement! Until we meet again!"
Simon felt the weight on his arm as the majestic bird stood on his guard with piercing eyes. He realized instantly that Nancy’s recruitment work had been completed with incredible speed and efficiency.
Beside them, the Oroqen hunters were staring with wide eyes, their respect for Nancy growing by the second.
They spent years of painstaking effort training their falcons to build a bond of life and death trust. Yet this young girl had said only a few words, and the falcon they had raised for nearly a decade had happily jumped ship without looking back. It had even proactively flown to a cold faced officer who had not uttered a single word.
The old hunters looked at each other, their faces filled with disbelief as they whispered in the Oroqen language.
"Great spirit... is this girl a messenger sent by the Mountain God? When she speaks, the eagle actually listens!"
"It took me three years to get Harmony to land on my arm, and she lured him away in three sentences!"
"It is not a lure! Did you see the look in the eagle's eyes? That was pure willingness! This girl... she must have the spiritual powers from our ancestral legends!"
Their gaze toward Nancy shifted from curiosity to a reverence mixed with wonder.
The middle aged Oroqen leader stepped forward, placing his right hand over his chest in a simple and solemn salute.
"Nancy," he said, his voice booming with the directness of a hunting people. "The Mountain God has guided a true hunter to us. All the horses, reindeer, and hunters of our tribe are at your disposal from this moment on."
He looked back at his companions, and they answered in a unified shout that echoed across the snowy fields.
"We will guard the path behind you and ensure your supplies remain steady. We will clear away any worries. Please take our divine eagles and capture the sinner who has defiled nature."
Nancy returned the salute solemnly. "Thank you. We will bring him back."
A moment later, engines roared and hooves struck the snow.
Nancy climbed onto the latest intelligent snowmobile, its dashboard glowing with a steady blue light. Simon leaped onto the back of the most powerful Oroqen horse, the reins held firmly in his hands.
With a sharp cry, Lucky and Harmony took to the sky simultaneously, their iron gray figures cutting sharp trajectories beneath the low clouds.
Master Crow scrambled to fly above them, puffing out its chest like a project manager overseeing two elite consultants.
"Left side, right side, keep up! Today, I am taking you two through the big leagues!"
On the ground, a steel torrent of over thirty snowmobiles followed Nancy and Simon, joined by the silent and swift forest hunters on horseback. Together, they formed an unstoppable force of pursuit, heading at full speed toward Moonslide Peak, the last place Professor Langstrom had been seen.
In the air, eagles cried. On the ground, riders broke through the snow.
A massive net was closing in on the prey.
Tammy also mounted an Oroqen horse, her movements as sharp and practiced as any hunter. Due to her sensitive status, she and her two guards stayed toward the rear of the main force, keeping a low profile as if they were simple support staff.
