Master Crow was losing his mind. Watching the sand rats treat gold like trash sent him into a wing-flapping panic.

"What a waste! These brats have no idea what they are throwing away!"

He shrieked and scrambled to scoop the gold-flecked sand toward his chest with his wings, trying to hoard every bit of it. The sight of a large black bird diving for their garbage terrified the sand rats, and they scrambled back into their burrows.

Nancy tapped the crow’s head. "Knock it off, you greedy bird. This belongs to the state. We are turning it over."

The geological surveyor from the police team reached the site and knelt down. He used a pair of tweezers to pick up several grains of gold, comparing them to the samples they took from Rino.

"This is unbelievable," the surveyor said, his voice shaking. "Look at the size of these grains. The purity and the density are way higher than anything Rino found."

He stood up and pointed at the burrow. "This has to be the main deposit. Rino was just picking up scraps at the edge of the deposit."

He let a handful of sand sift through his fingers. "Gold mining in the desert is usually a losing game because the concentrations are too low to be worth the cost. But this is different. This density is something I have never seen. I need to report this immediately and get this area secured."

He looked at his basic tools and sighed. "The problem is our gear. Mapping this out is going to be a nightmare with what we have on hand."

"Don't worry," Nancy said. "We have live radar."

She had already used a handful of nuts to buy the loyalty of the sand rat family. She crouched down near the hole. "How did you find so much of this shiny stuff?"

The lead sand rat puffed out its chest. "It is everywhere in there. The more we dig, the more of it we find. It is actually a huge pain."

He scratched his head. "It took us six months to build this place, and now it is getting filled up with this heavy trash. We were thinking about moving, but building a new burrow for the whole family takes forever."

Nancy cut to the point. "What if we find you a better, more comfortable home? In exchange, you show us where the rest of the shiny stuff is. I will even keep you fed all winter."

"Really?" The rats' eyes widened. They reached out their tiny paws to high-five her. "Deal! No lying!"

The surveyor nearly tripped over himself when he realized the rats could lead them to the vein. "This changes everything. You just saved us months of work."

He gestured at the ground. "Usually, we have to drill a hundred test holes. It is slow and expensive. But these guys have already done the sampling. We can see exactly where the gold is just by looking at their tunnels. This saves millions in costs."

He shook a rat's paw and looked at Nancy. "I will make sure my superiors know you found this. For a resource this big, the country won't let you walk away empty-handed."

On the drive back, Nancy’s phone buzzed with a notification. Three hundred thousand dollars had been deposited into her account. The sender was Ramsay.

"He doesn't waste time," she muttered. She hadn't expected the payment for the location scouting to hit her account so fast.

Her phone rang a second later. It was Ramsay. Nancy answered with a smile. "Ramsay, I got the transfer. Thank you."

"You earned it," Ramsay said. Then his voice got a bit more serious. "Actually, I have a favor to ask."

His daughter, Sicily Donovan, was a directing major at the film academy and was working on her graduation project, a fantasy adventure set in the desert.

The script needed a lot of animal work, and Ramsay wanted Nancy to introduce some desert animals that weren't afraid of the camera.
