Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 203: The Rise Of The Twins
Ginnie sat draped in an elegant, well-tailored dress, her makeup subtle yet sophisticated. She was currently holding court with several high-ranking municipal officials in the front row, her every word and gesture radiating poise.
"Ginnie is so young, yet she's already led the development of a vaccine," one official noted with genuine admiration. "The younger generation truly is a force to be reckoned with."
Another quickly chimed in, "She isn't just a rising star in research; she's also the director of the Summers Corp Veterinary Hospital."
"With the pet economy booming right now, her future is truly limitless!"
Ginnie responded with a humble smile, her easy conversation exuding total composure.
Suddenly, she turned around, her gaze landing on Nancy. She immediately introduced her to the leaders with feigned warmth. "Oh, this is Nancy. She's a veterinarian too!"
"She is currently the director of the Loren Zoo. She's been working hard in the trenches at the grassroots level. It really hasn't been easy for her."
Though her tone was friendly, she pointedly emphasized "grassroots" and "hasn't been easy," leaving the underlying implication crystal clear.
Soren, standing nearby, nodded in approval. "Ginnie truly has a broad perspective, knowing how to appreciate others."
The officials gave Nancy a brief, lukewarm nod and a perfunctory smile before quickly shifting their attention back to Ginnie.
After all, a mere zoo director couldn't possibly compare to someone of Ginnie's caliber.
Suddenly, one of the younger officials seemed to recall something. He looked at Nancy with a spark of surprise.
"Nancy?"
"That name sounds familiar... could you be the younger sister of the 'Twin Stars' that the Townsville Police Department is always talking about?"
Nancy was caught off guard but gave a polite nod.
"You flatter me. I hardly deserve to be called a 'Twin Star.'"
"I'm no expert in criminal investigation. I still have a lot to learn. The little animals are the real lead detectives."
The other two officials, who had just been dismissive of Nancy, suddenly made the connection. Their attitudes shifted instantly to genuine enthusiasm.
"Goodness! So you really are one of the 'Police Twin Stars'!"
"That tomb-robbing murder case not long ago—you and your brother were the ones who cracked it, right?"
"So young and so talented!" Since you two started assisting with cases, the department's clearance rate has shot up!"
"We've all been dying to know, how exactly did you find those key clues back then?"
Another official picked up the thread, lowering his voice slightly. "I heard that a criminal investigation professor named Jack actually arrested the wrong person."
"And that innocent young man was about to compete in a world-class competition. The timing was incredibly tight..."
"Thankfully, you two solved the case in the end!"
As Ginnie listened to this, the smile on her face froze, and her complexion paled several shades.
One official, suddenly realizing something, asked Nancy out of curiosity:
"Since you all share the surname Summers... are you, Professor Grant, and Ginnie related?"
Nancy shook her head immediately, her voice clear and steady. "No, we have no relation whatsoever."
"I am a Summers because I took my mother's surname."
After Nancy left the Summers family, she had indeed considered changing her name to match her brother's.
However, upon learning that her mother was also a Summers and inheriting her mother's precious manuscripts, she abandoned that idea.
Furthermore, there was a practical matter.
She had used the name "Nancy" for every international conference she had attended and every research paper she had published.
Nancy knew the Summers family's capacity for shamelessness was beyond imagination.
If she changed her name and the Summers family decided to throw dignity to the wind, it was entirely possible they would have Ginnie or another relative adopt the name "Nancy" to muddy the waters and steal the prestige she had painstakingly built.
Even though her personal information was clearly registered on her certificates and memberships, in reality, the opportunities to manufacture confusion by misappropriating a name were endless.
She would not give the Summers family that chance.
Nancy let a soft smile spread across her face as she added calmly, "Ginnie is actually Professor Grant's sister."
The group looked at Ginnie with a mix of realization and surprise.
Ginnie forced a strained, awkward smile, trying desperately to save face.
"In the process of solving a case, it's inevitable that one might occasionally head in the wrong direction. Besides, my brother didn't hold the suspect for more than twenty-four hours; he was released according to regulations..."
She paused, almost grinding her teeth as she added, "...In the end, it was thanks to the 'Police Twin Stars' turning the tide."
That final "thank you" was squeezed out from between her clenched teeth.
Just then, the host on stage announced with vibrant energy: "Next, let us give a warm welcome to this year's outstanding freshman representative—Ginnie, from the first year of the College of Veterinary Medicine! Not only is she the director of the Summers Corp Veterinary Hospital, but she also led the development of the revolutionary pet vaccine. Today, this vaccine officially hits the market, and it is destined to bring a major transformation to the entire field of pet healthcare!"
