Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 371: The Lord Of The Skies
"The people at the Northwest Wildlife Conservation Center mentioned something to me recently," Graham said. "They have taken in a true sovereign of the skies."
Nancy’s eyes lit up. "Could it be a Golden Eagle?"
"Exactly. But..." Graham’s expression turned complex. "That eagle is incredibly fierce and untamable. The center has brought in several experienced falconers, yet none could even get close. It refuses to communicate and flat out rejects any form of submission. It is a total brick wall. To be honest, I am not even sure if your skills will be enough to move it."
Seeing a seasoned military figure like Graham speak with such gravity about the bird only piqued Nancy’s curiosity further. As soon as she returned to the Northwest Wildlife Rescue Center, she was itching to meet this defiant predator.
However, before heading out, she had to check on her two animal detectives. For this trip to the Northwest, her agency had only deployed Master Crow and Snowball. The other animals simply did not have the constitution to handle the harsh local climate.
The journey from Townsville in the southeast to the frigid northwestern desert spanned over three thousand kilometers, crossing nearly the entirety of Dracovia. Even as the human lead, Nancy felt the exhaustion, let alone the two small creatures traveling with her. The climate disparity between the two regions was staggering.
To ensure everything went smoothly, Nancy had the duo rest at the rescue center to acclimate rather than taking them straight into the desert. Nancy stepped softly into the rest area and saw Snowball curled into a fluffy white ball, sleeping soundly. He was clearly worn out by the long trek.
In contrast, Master Crow was full of energy and pacing along the windowsill. The moment she entered, he flapped his wings and landed on her shoulder. "How did it go? Did you catch those sneaky spies?"
Nancy quickly produced some specially prepared nuts as an offering. "We have leads, but there is a small matter that requires your expertise."
Master Crow pecked at a nut with an air of self-importance. "Girl, I knew you could not handle things without me. Tell me, what is the problem this time?"
"It is like this," Nancy whispered. "There is a Golden Eagle here at the center with a very fiery temperament. I need to earn its trust so it can become our partner here in the Northwest."
At the mention of a Golden Eagle, the crow’s beady eyes sparkled. "A Golden Eagle? Easy!" He puffed out his chest and waved a wing. "I will just have a friend of mine from the streets give this Northwest eagle a bit of a recruitment pitch. No, let us call it headhunting for talent! I guarantee it joins our Bird Gang of its own free will!"
Wow, is this the raptor version of a corporate headhunter?
Nancy leaned in, asking Master Crow in a low, mysterious tone, "Does your friend have an opening in their schedule? Can they set up a meeting for us?"
Master Crow ruffled his feathers and tossed his head back. "Of course! My friend happens to be working as a guest instructor at the agricultural base right now. He is training a new security squad made up of the birds that are old, weak, or disabled!"
He was already running the numbers in his head. Since the agricultural base was planning to deploy these specialized avian talents in shifts, they needed a gold standard professional mentor to lead the rookies. The better this security detail performed, the richer the rewards he could squeeze out of the base.
Nancy was impressed by Master Crow’s scheming and reached out to gently tap his sleek head. Wow, what kind of brilliant strategies are you hiding in that little brain of yours!
As she spoke, she began walking toward the Golden Eagle’s enclosure with Master Crow in tow. Perched on her shoulder, Master Crow stood tall and proud with his obsidian eyes gleaming. "It is time to expand my avian network from the southeast all the way to the Northwest!"
He was blissfully calculating. He had a Golden Eagle backing him in Townsville, and if he could secure a local eagle as a patron here, he would be set. No matter where he went, he would be clinging to the legs of the local raptor boss. That would allow him to walk tall across the entire bird kingdom.
Before long, the pair arrived at the raptor section of the rescue center. Outside the enclosure belonging to the eagle named Hunter stood an older man, his arm guard covered in deep talon marks.
Staff members explained that he was a master falconer invited from a neighboring country. The nomadic tribes of that region still maintained the tradition of training Golden Eagles to hunt wolves and protect livestock. Yet at that moment, even this veteran falconer was being forced back by the raptor in the cage.
The Golden Eagle had its massive wings spread wide while its sharp beak slammed against the bars. Every screech was a cry of defiance.
"Get lost! You wretched human, do not think for a second you will make me submit! You cannot even get me a decent meal. This stuff tastes foul!"
A nearby staff member explained in a low voice that the male was named Hunter. He was an incredible predator, but a digestive system pathology had robbed him of his satiety. He could no longer feel full, which had trapped him in a vicious cycle of relentless hunting and eating.
