"Too much fertilizer?" Nancy whispered.

She suddenly remembered a detail Flowie had mentioned in her video while talking about her husband’s gardening. "I don't know what kind of fertilizer he uses, it has a very strong smell, but the plants grow so well."

Nancy immediately relayed this detail to Tammy.

Tammy’s expression became incredibly grave as she connected the dots between the teeth Nancy had mentioned and her immediate decision to contact the police. She scrutinized the photos of the plants again, her gaze as sharp as a scalpel.

"There is another possibility." Her voice was low, carrying a cold, scientific weight. "Human blood is rich in nitrogen and iron. Both are key elements required for plant growth."

Tammy pointed to the soil in the photos. It was unnaturally dark and looked almost compacted, with faint hints of flies circling the area. A stark contrast to the clean, high end home environment.

"The color of this soil is wrong, and so is the texture. In a home with such good living conditions, you should not see soil that attracts insects or has a noticeable odor. Combined with the blogger’s mention of a strong smell from the fertilizer..."

Tammy looked up at her daughter. The maternal warmth was gone, replaced by the piercing intensity of a top tier researcher.

"Nancy, your theory is highly probable. It is very likely these plants were being watered with human blood. The person doing it likely used chemicals to mask the scent of the gore."

Nancy’s skin crawled. Thinking of Flowie, who had been offline since last night, she wished she could fly straight to Dimsdale. It seemed increasingly likely that Flowie’s husband was a killer. But who was the victim?

The Dimsdale police were even faster than expected. Nancy had just finished lunch and set down her fork when her phone vibrated. The voice on the other end was familiar and efficient, but the content only made Nancy more suspicious.

"Nancy, we reached the blogger. Her real name is Sandra Moon."

The officer’s tone sounded somewhat relieved. "She is fine. She explained that she hasn't been online because she went back to her husband’s rural hometown last night, where the signal is poor."

Nancy gripped her phone, her fingertips tracing the cool surface of the device. Despite the bright sunlight outside, a chill crept up her spine.

"Nancy?" The officer paused before asking a carefully weighed question. "We want to confirm one more time. Regarding the lead about human teeth mixed into the white quartz sand... are you certain?"

Nancy could hear the rustle of papers and low murmurs in the background. It was the sound of a standard case discussion, but she knew they were questioning her accuracy.

"It is the New Year, and the guys are a bit frustrated after coming up empty handed," the officer sighed, sounding exhausted.

Nancy’s response was immediate and firm. "I am certain. I watched her earlier videos and heard the corydoras say it myself."

The phrase heard the corydoras say it caused a long silence on the other end. When the officer spoke again, his voice held a mix of deep confusion and professional caution.

"We managed to take a sample of the white quartz sand from the house. The lab results just came back. Every sample is ordinary stone. There is nothing unusual in the composition."

Nancy’s brow knitted together. "Could the husband have realized the video was going viral and swapped the substrate before you arrived?"

"We can't rule that out," the officer admitted helplessly. "But if that is the case, we were likely a step too late. Without a formal report or physical evidence, we have no authority to investigate further based solely on a social media video and... animal testimony."

He lowered his voice. "Actually, getting inside to look around required some unconventional methods. We sent in a partner who is a professional actor known for playing Taoist priests. He used the pretext of seeing the video and checking the home's feng shui to scout the scene."

Nancy blinked. The method was clever, approaching the scene without alerting the suspect.

"That was a smart move," she said sincerely. "Thank you for the effort. When your partner was inside, did he notice the balcony? Were there any plants, specifically large, dark green leafy ones that looked exceptionally lush?"

There was a brief pause on the line followed by the sound of flipping pages.

"There were plants on the balcony," the officer recalled. "But they looked like ordinary nursery pots. The growth was... average. There was nothing particularly remarkable about them."
