Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 416: The Trap Closes
"A titan?" Nancy found the idea laughable. "Didn't you all say the same thing about Special Bites? You were so sure I couldn't touch your market share back then, too. How many rounds have you lost to me now? Have you actually lost count?"
Anders turned a deep, furious shade of red, the reminder of his past failures stinging like a physical blow.
He opened his mouth to argue, but Nancy was done wasting her breath. She gave a sharp nod to the guard standing beside her.
One of the guards stepped forward and seized Anders by the arm. The executive’s composure shattered instantly, replaced by a frantic, indignant rage. "Let go of me! Do you have any idea who I am? I am worth hundreds of millions! If you touch me, you will be paying for it for the rest of your lives!"
The commotion drew stares from across the restaurant.
Before Anders could escalate further, two men in sharp, casual attire approached silently. They flanked him, taking hold of his arms with a professional ease that looked natural to an outsider but felt like iron shackles to Anders.
His face went pale.
This wasn't a standard security detail. Their grip was clinical, their movements synchronized. They weren't escorting him out; they were taking him into custody.
"Mr. Summers," the man on the left said, his voice as flat as a dial tone. He flashed a badge that made Anders' heart skip a beat. "National Security. Your current actions are classified as harassment and unauthorized contact with a high-level person of interest."
The agent’s gaze was cold and piercing. "You’re coming with us for questioning."
Anders' eyes nearly bulged out of his head. He could not believe what he was hearing.
National Security?
The words hit him like a punch to the gut. An interrogation by a department like that was a death sentence for a man with his kind of secrets.
He looked at Nancy, who remained perfectly calm, and a wave of terror washed over him. How the hell did this girl get involved with National Security?
A person of interest?
He had never seen a civilian protected like this. In the short time since he’d last seen her, Nancy had become something far more dangerous than a simple business rival.
But Anders didn't have time to ponder her rise to power. The thought of an interrogation sent his mind into a tailspin. He knew how these things went. It wouldn't just be an hour or two. It would be days of relentless, deep-dive questioning.
Would they stop at his harassment of Nancy?
The thought turned his blood to ice. He had spent years operating in the gray areas of the business world. He had connections and transactions that could never see the light of day. If they started digging, they would find everything.
For the first time in his life, Anders realized he had not just made a mistake. He had walked straight into a trap that would dismantle everything he had spent decades building.
Nancy watched in silence as the agents led him away, a sharp glint in her eyes.
The fact that he had so casually offered to move Simon confirmed her longest-standing suspicion. Simon’s career hadn't just stalled after graduation by accident; the Summers family had sabotaged him from the start.
Now she just needed to know how they did it. If she could find proof of their interference, she could send the rest of the family to join Chandler behind bars.
Anders had walked right into her hands, and his detention was the perfect opportunity. She pulled out her phone and sent a quick message to her contact at National Security.
"Focus the interrogation on his involvement in Simon’s career reassignment years ago."
The reply came back almost instantly. "Understood. Noted."
Nancy let out a satisfied breath. The truth was finally within reach. Anders had practically gift-wrapped his own downfall by showing up today.
She turned to the guard still standing by her side. "Can you find out how he knew I was here? Check where his car is parked and see who he called before he walked in."
She was certain he hadn't come here on a whim. Yvonne was likely the one pulling the strings from the shadows. A man like Anders, running a major entertainment firm, would have been on the phone constantly.
Maybe some local birds or animals had overheard his conversation on the way in.
If she could find the witnesses, she could find out what was said.
The guard returned a few minutes later with a report. "Anders’ car is a white Porsche parked in the East VIP lot. Surveillance shows him taking a call after he got out. He looked suspicious, avoiding the main cameras and ducking into the small wooded area nearby."
Nancy headed straight for the parking lot. The area was thick with trees, a perfect blind spot for the cameras.
She pulled the squirrel brothers from her bag. "Corry, Bobby, I need you to ask around. See if anyone nearby heard that man’s conversation."
