Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 236: The Shadow In The Corner
Could the legendary cold-hearted Mr. Barry actually be so meticulous about Nancy's diet?
Just then, Chandler's phone vibrated. He looked down, and his expression darkened instantly. He looked up, glaring at Nancy with a threatening tone.
"Nancy, you will regret your choice today!"
"Don't push things too far. Be careful, or there will be no turning back!"
Hearing this, Nancy wasn't intimidated. Instead, she gave a light laugh—one that was bright and carried a touch of spirit.
"Regret? My only regret is wasting twenty-two years with the Summers family."
"As for a way back?" She tilted her head, her gaze clear and firm. "My life, Nancy's life, never needed such a thing."
The Summers family group could only leave in disgrace.
Barry gently tapped the bottom of the thermal flask with his fingertip, urging her, "Drink it quickly before it gets cold."
Nancy obediently finished it and handed the empty flask to Jorgan.
Barry handed her a tissue at the right moment, his brow slightly furrowed, though his tone lacked any real disdain. "Your eating habits are worse than a snow leopard cub's."
Nancy wiped her mouth with a grin, her eyes curving into crescents. "Thanks for today! Bringing Star was so timely~"
As she spoke, she squatted down and hugged the majestic wolfdog, rubbing her cheek against his thick fur.
"You came specifically to support me, didn't you? As soon as our Star appeared, a certain actress became as quiet as a chicken!"
She looked up, smiling radiantly as she scratched Star's chin.
"If you ask me, our Star is the true miracle doctor—he specializes in curing all kinds of defiance and drama queens!"
Star nuzzled Nancy enthusiastically, his tail wagging like a small whirlwind, repeatedly thumping Barry's pant leg.
"Protecting Nancy is my most important mission!" If I drive away all the bad people, you can play with me happily every day!"
Nancy felt a warm glow in her heart and couldn't help but hug her furry bodyguard tighter.
Barry watched the seamless intimacy between the girl and the dog. He lightly restrained Star's tail with his palm and looked at Nancy. "Since I brought him out so punctually, how are you going to thank me?"
Nancy looked up and laughed. "For tomorrow's opening day, I'll make you a special themed meal! Do you have any dietary restrictions?"
"Just one meal?" Barry raised an eyebrow.
"True," Nancy said, a look of distress crossing her face. "Mr. Barry has tasted every delicacy imaginable; he definitely won't care for my cooking. Never mind then."
"I'll thank you properly once I've made it big. I'll treat you to a private home-cooked feast!"
"I didn't say I wouldn't eat it," Barry's speech quickened slightly. "No restrictions. I want the meal, and I've noted the future gratitude as well."
Nancy burst out laughing. "As expected of a businessman, always calculating!"
Barry took a step closer. "What time should I attend the opening tomorrow?"
He gave her a faint glance, his voice carrying a hint of dry mockery. "Not even a formal invitation sent out. What a small workshop."
Nancy's eyes curved as she smiled like a clever little fox. "We're so close already, why bother with those formalities? Tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM, come directly to the director's office to find me~"
Hearing the words "so close already," the corners of Barry's lips twitched upward almost imperceptibly. He turned away sharply, leaving behind only his upright silhouette and a short whisper: "Understood."
In a dim corner of the Loren Zoo parking lot.
"Useless! The great Summers Corp, made to look so pathetic by a little girl!"
Chandler gripped his phone, his knuckles white from the strain. The sharp female voice on the other end made a cold sweat break out on his forehead, but he didn't dare argue.
Chandler's tone was humble. "It was my oversight... that girl's ability to communicate with animals is indeed bizarre. I really slipped up this time."
The woman's voice carried a haughty coldness. "Do you think she alone can shake the capital of the entire Summers Corp?"
Chandler instinctively bowed as he agreed, his tone sycophantic. "You're right. This matter still needs your personal touch to be resolved."
He lowered his voice, a trace of ruthlessness flashing in his eyes. "Tomorrow is the opening day of that girl's zoo. The foot traffic will be huge—the perfect time to send her a 'gift'..."
"Wait until I arrive in Townsville." The woman's voice turned abruptly cold, carrying an undeniable warning. "Until then, behave yourself. No more reckless moves."
Chandler pressed urgently, lowering his voice further. "Opening day is the best opportunity! With so many people, it would be all too easy for something to go wrong!"
The woman's voice turned razor-sharp. "I have my own arrangements. It is not your place to teach me how to do things."
Her pace was not fast, yet every word carried a chill. "The more moves you make, the more flaws you leave."
"Don't forget, the traces of your 'official business' haven't been wiped clean yet."
