Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 230: Blocked At The Gate

4 min 1 views

The adorable cartoon bandages contrasted sharply with Barry's handsome, stern features. The entire conference room fell into a bizarre silence. Every employee struggled to maintain their composure, their eyes filled with shock and curiosity.

On the screen, the eyes of the overseas executives were wide as saucers. Bandages that cute were clearly something only a girl would buy!

Barry's face was dark enough to drip ink. Expressionless, he signaled the branch spokesperson to begin the report. Throughout the entire meeting, everyone was walking on eggshells, terrified of making a single mistake.

Meanwhile, back at her dorm, Nancy let out a string of sneezes.

Over the next few days, the zoo was a whirlwind of activity. The entire staff was working at high intensity to prepare for the upcoming grand opening. Nancy had specially increased employee benefits; the canteen menu was rich and varied, with different dishes for every meal.

The day before the opening, Nancy personally visited the canteen during lunch. As the staff ate, she handed each employee a thick cash stack.

As she sat eating and watching the midday news, the host's voice came through the television:

"The animal vaccine Light-Second, originally scheduled for a global launch last week, was issued an emergency halt by relevant authorities one hour before its release."

"Affected by this, Summers Corp's stock price plummeted at the opening bell, with current losses exceeding 15%..."

The news also mentioned that because of the massive number of pre-signed partnership orders, Summers Corp was now facing the risk of collective lawsuits for exorbitant breach-of-contract penalties from distributors.

Nancy happened to be handing a red envelope to Elsa, the newly hired veterinarian. Elsa looked like a new person; her dark circles had faded, and color had returned to her face. As she watched the news, tears welled in her eyes. She turned to Nancy with a bright, relieved smile.

Ever since she had confessed the truth about the Light-Second vaccine and assisted Nancy with the report, Elsa's heart had finally found peace, and she could finally sleep through the night. Hearing that the Summers family was being punished brought her even more comfort.

Nancy said softly, "A share of the credit for this victory belongs to you."

Elsa shook her head, her voice calm and free of regret. "I only did what I should have done."

Just then, Nancy's phone rang. The caller ID showed the zoo's security office.

The guard's voice sounded hesitant. "Director Nancy, there is a black Mercedes at the gate, plate number XXXXX... The people inside insist they are your parents coming to take you home. They are demanding we let them in."

Nancy's eyes turned ice-cold. She knew that plate number all too well; it was her father Chandler's car.

Her voice sharpened. "My parents passed away a long time ago."

The guard understood immediately. "I'll kick them out right now!"

After hanging up, Nancy continued eating as if she had just handled a minor, irrelevant chore. However, a few minutes later, her screen lit up and vibrated again. The caller ID read: Chandler.

Nancy glanced at it, casually set her phone to silent, and placed it face down on the table. She continued her meal with composed indifference, having no intention of answering.

Outside the zoo gates, a black Mercedes sat idling. Inside were the head of the Summers family, Chandler, his wife Sue, and their daughter Ginnie. The three were waiting for the guard to open the gate.

Seeing the guard stride over, Chandler's face darkened. He spoke with condescending dissatisfaction:

"I will say it once more. I am your director's father! Open this gate at once!"

He even added a threatening tone: "If you waste any more of my time, I'll make sure she docks your pay!"

Hearing this, the guard gave him a sideways look. Far from being intimidated, he let out a scoff. "Our Miss Nancy is the most fair person; she never docks pay for no reason!" As for you, you're quite practiced at pretending to be someone's father, aren't you?"

He waved his hand impatiently, shooing them away. "Go on, get moving! Don't block the way with your car!"

A look of disbelief flashed across Chandler's face, and his voice rose. "I have personally come to take her back to the Summers family! What more does she want?" There's a limit to playing hard to get!"

Fuming, he pulled out his phone. "I'll call the girl myself!" He shot a contemptuous glare at the guard. "Just watch." I'll have your director fire you right now!"

However, Chandler dialed several times, only to hear the long, monotonous "beep-beep-beep." Eventually, the system directly informed him that the recipient was unavailable.

He had been blocked.

Chandler froze, staring blankly at the guard who was snickering with an "I told you so" look. The scene was incredibly awkward.

"Move along," the guard said impatiently. "If you keep blocking the gate, I'm calling the police."
