Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 208: The Avian Insurance Plan
Even the simplest white T-shirt and jeans looked breathtakingly beautiful against the backdrop of the Red-crowned cranes and soaring white pigeons. Every frame was a masterpiece of composition, destined to go viral and reach legendary status.
The head of the university's media club clicked the shutter relentlessly, muttering in excitement, "Thanks to Nancy, Townsville University's convocation is going to break the internet!"
Jensen turned to Soren with a relaxed smile and asked, "Well, Soren? What do you have to say now?"
Soren's face flushed a deep crimson, his eyes wide. Finally, he managed to huff out a response.
"...What is there to say! The girl is incredibly talented!"
Nancy had barely stepped off the stage when she was swarmed by birds. They hadn't flown away; instead, they landed around her in an orderly fashion. Even the two ethereal Red-crowned cranes glided down to her side, creating a scene that looked like a high-level summit of avian leaders.
The sheer scale of it made Nancy a little nervous. She tested the waters in a low voice, "Um... thank you all for coming to support me today. Is there something else you wanted to discuss?"
The moment she spoke, the flock erupted into a cacophony of chirps:
"Boss! We want medical insurance!"
"The wagtails said you're amazing and can cure us!"
"Boss, please protect us!"
At that moment, the leader of the White Wagtails flew down. Like an old-school official, it cleared its throat and gave a stern series of chirps:
"Quiet! Everyone be quiet! You young birds shouldn't just talk about what you want; you need to talk about what you can contribute!"
"Tell the boss what you can do for her!"
A hummingbird, no larger than an egg, darted forward, its wings a blur of motion.
"I can help pollinate the flowers in your garden and bring you the freshest nectar to eat!"
"Boss, I can turn the soil and catch pests for you! I'm also a master of mimicry—I can copy other birds or even car alarms!"
A Light-vented Bulbul added, "Boss, I'll taste the fruit in the garden to see which ones are ripe and sweet first! I'll also be the first to spot any bad bugs trying to eat them!"
Even a turtle dove standing nearby let out a slow, rhythmic coo:
"I... I might be a little slow, but I have a lovely voice! I can say 'good morning' outside your window every day~"
Nancy listening to their earnest "job applications," finally burst into laughter.
The "old bandit" wagtail puffed out its chest and hopped over to Nancy, tilting its head with a look of pure pride, begging for a compliment.
"Boss, Boss! How did I do? Didn't that look impressive?"
Nancy didn't know whether to laugh or cry. The style of these "bandit birds" really lived up to the name—they knew exactly how to read a situation and master the art of "bird politics." They were practically human!
She leaned down and patiently pointed toward a new white building in the distance. "Of course you can. My lab is right there—Building S1, the very last room on the third floor."
Her voice was gentle, as if she were giving instructions to a group of children. "If any of you feel unwell, or if your friends or family get sick, you can wait for me on the lab's windowsill."
"If it's an emergency, tell the wagtails, and they can find me at the Loren Zoo."
The wagtail immediately chirped back, "But Boss, we don't know where your zoo is!"
Nancy laughed, her eyes sweeping over the expectant little birds. "Thank you for such a wonderful surprise today ~ I'll take you all to my zoo to play in a little while!"
Her tone was light and full of promise. "Anyone who wants to come along, join us! I didn't bring any biscuits today, but I have plenty of specially made bird crackers waiting for you at the zoo!"
The birds fluttered their wings in excitement, breaking into a messy but incredibly joyful song, like a makeshift avian choir.
In the midst of the celebration, the female Red-crowned crane, who had been quiet until now, lowered her head. She gently nudged Nancy's arm with her beak and let out a weak, low cry.
"Boss... I—I don't feel very well... I need help!"
"My head is spinning... and I've been feeling nauseous lately..."
Before she could finish, her long legs buckled. Her entire body slumped toward Nancy.
Nancy's heart hammered against her ribs. She lunged forward, using her own body to brace the falling bird, nearly getting knocked over by the sudden weight.
Panic flared in her mind.
It was a Class I protected animal!
If something happened to this bird while in her care, "trouble" wouldn't even cover it—she'd be looking at a prison sentence!
