Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 479: The Winged Watchers
First, a few sparrows landed nearby tentatively. Soon, more small birds flapped their wings and flew over, followed by the bolder squirrels peeking out from behind the trees.
The scene was so surreal that even the veteran police officers, who had seen almost everything, felt a rush of novelty and excitement. They put on masks and gloves and, following Nancy’s instructions, carefully distributed the birdseed, nuts, and small snacks they had prepared.
"I feel like a Disney princess," one young officer whispered to his partner with a grin. "I'm surrounded by little woodland creatures."
His partner nodded in agreement. "I thought New Year's Eve duty would be a drag, but I didn't expect this kind of interactive experience!"
The first sparrows and bats to approach tilted their heads curiously, their beady black eyes staring at the glow of the screens visible through the windows of the undercover van. At that moment, Master Crow, who was connected to the scene via a live link with the police, began the pre-job training.
Master Crow puffed out his chest and spread his wings slightly, radiating the authority of a seasoned veteran.
"Listen up, rookies! The mission is simple: keep your eyes on that pointed-roof house. If anything unusual happens, if that male human moves something, buries something, or sneaks around at night, you report back here immediately! Do a good job, and the rewards are massive. Not just food, but warm, safe new nests! Understand? Especially that male human. Follow him wherever he goes, but do not let him spot you!"
The little creatures below listened with rapt attention, their heads bobbing in unison. Even their eating slowed down. Usually, their lives in the neighborhood consisted of scrounging for crumbs and dodging stray cats. They had never imagined receiving such a thrilling assignment. Suddenly, they felt a profound sense of duty. Even the sunflower seeds in their claws felt more meaningful now.
Hey, who knew a casual stroll would lead to such a big scoop!
Master Crow and his team of remote trainers had been on many missions with Nancy and were already expert investigators. Training these newbies was second nature to them, and they laid out the rules and rewards with perfect clarity.
As soon as the training ended, the animals near Flowie’s villa snapped into action.
The sparrows fanned out in pairs to the branches surrounding the property. Small bats hung from the shadows of the eaves, and squirrels took up positions on the walls and treetops for a better vantage point. Dozens of bright, tiny eyes were locked onto the quiet villa, more focused than the most sophisticated surveillance cameras.
By the time the arrangements were complete, the sky had turned completely dark. The streetlights cast warm yellow orbs into the cold night, making the silence of the villa district feel even heavier. Only in the corners humans ignored did the alert, excited glint of animal eyes remain.
Nancy thanked the Dimsdale police over the phone. "Thank you all for your hard work. It's New Year's Eve, and you're out there helping me with something so... unconventional."
"Hard work? Not at all!" a voice whispered back with a clear laugh. In the background, Nancy could hear other officers chatting excitedly. "Nancy, you have no idea. This is an eye-opener for us!"
"A live-action Animal Planet special mission? This is better than the New Year's Gala!"
"Exactly," another voice chimed in, sounding both impressed and eager. "Who would have thought to work a case this way? Recalling local bats and birds to build a mobile intelligence network. It's much more convenient than staking it out ourselves, and there's almost zero risk of being spotted. Nancy, you're incredible!"
As the night deepened, the human officers withdrew to a surveillance van on the perimeter, leaving the front-line observation to the new recruits.
Suddenly, a small shadow fluttered through the night sky and landed precisely on the hood of the van disguised as a sanitation vehicle. It was a tiny sparrow. It hopped urgently, pecking at the windshield with a rapid tap-tap-tap.
The officer inside was stunned. The sparrow’s feathers were slightly puffed, and its black eyes were bright in the dim light. It chirped frantically at them, even lifting a tiny claw to point toward the villa as if to say, I have important news!
Though they couldn't understand the language, the bird's frantic posture and clear direction made it obvious to the experienced officers that their informant had arrived.
"Quick! Get Nancy on the line!" one officer shouted, reaching for his phone.
At the same time, Nancy was staring at her own screen, her expression turning grim. Flowie’s social media account had just updated with a new video, posted only an hour ago.
