Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 271: The Secret To The Payday
Dozens of people craned their necks to see the imaging data on the monitors. Within minutes, the vets had crowded around Cloud so tightly that Nancy couldn't even get close.
Being shorter than most of her colleagues, her view was completely blocked. She could only catch glimpses of the stallion’s head through the gaps in the crowd. She didn't bother trying to push her way in. Instead, she stepped back and watched the horse from a distance.
She was more interested in how Cloud was reacting to the crowd. Maybe he’d just tell her what was actually wrong.
Callum noticed Nancy wasn't even trying to get into the inner circle. She just stood on the outskirts, looking perfectly calm.
"Mr. Barry," Callum whispered, "is Ms. Nancy the only vet you brought?"
Barry watched her, a faint smile on his lips. "She’s all the team I need."
Callum looked back at Nancy. To him, she looked out of place, almost sidelined while the real experts scrambled for a better look. Looking at Barry’s confidence, Callum started to wonder if the man had lost his mind. Was he just bringing his girlfriend along to network with famous doctors instead of actually treating the horse?
Inside the circle, Ginnie was scanning Cloud with a professional sensor. Her team watched the screens with total focus; their procedure looked technically perfect.
Cloud, however, was clearly fed up with the poking and prodding. He tossed his neck and let out a sharp, annoyed snort.
Nancy's ears perked up as she caught the horse's internal monologue.
"And they say he’s a horseman. Raised in the saddle and he still doesn't get it. He's as clueless as the rest of them."
Cloud’s voice was clear and refined, sounding exactly like a proud prince.
"Stupid humans," Cloud continued, sounding disappointed. "How long are you going to keep doing this? You bring in these clunky machines every single time and find nothing."
The stallion shook his mane. "There’s something tiny, something incredibly thin, moving through my veins. Are your machines really that useless? Use your heads for once."
A foreign object moving through the bloodstream?
Nancy’s brow furrowed. She ran through the possibilities. Could it be stray piece of surgical thread? A fragment of a needle? Some kind of micro-fiber?
Barry noticed her change in focus and leaned in. "Did you hear something?"
Nancy snapped back to the room and looked at him, her eyes bright. "Yeah. I just heard the winning ticket."
She gave a confident, slightly smug nod. "Just wait. I'm about to fix this. We're getting that bonus."
The look on her face made Barry’s expression soften. He gave a slight nod. "Alright. Lead the way."
At that moment, Ginnie finished the scan. She held the report and glanced toward Nancy at the edge of the crowd. A smug smile touched her lips. Nancy couldn't even get near the horse; she wasn't even a threat.
Ginnie walked over and handed the file to Brandon.
Brandon skimmed it, his expression neutral. "The report shows the vascular system is normal. Come on, Cloud. Let’s move to the next test."
As he started to lead the horse away, Nancy’s voice rang out from the back of the room.
"Cloud, come here!"
The vets all turned at once. Nancy was standing a short distance away, waving the horse over. "You feel like there's something in your blood, don't you? It's making you miserable. Let me take a look."
Brandon frowned. He had studied every ultrasound and angiogram Cloud had ever had. None of them showed a clot or an obstruction.
Ginnie let out a soft sigh, looking pityingly at Nancy. She turned to Brandon, her voice sweet and condescending. "Don't mind her, Mr. Brandon. Nancy just... She probably just wants to feel like she’s helping."
