Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 251: A Miracle Cure
The doors hissed open, and a swarm of medical personnel in crisp white uniforms poured out.
They moved with the lethal efficiency of a tactical unit, snapping stretchers into place and raising triage tents before the dust had even settled. A lead doctor hurried over to Barry, snapping off a crisp report. "Sir, the field site is fully operational."
Barry’s gaze didn’t linger on the doctor. Instead, he looked down at Adam, who was still sprawled on the ground putting on a performance for the ages. "Take him away," Barry said, his voice flat.
Two medics moved in to hoist Adam onto a stretcher.
Ivy’s eyes locked onto the bold Goodman Corp Hospital logo emblazoned on the side of the ambulance, and she visibly recoiled. This was the most elite private medical group in the country, the kind of place where a check-up cost more than a mid-sized sedan.
She whipped around to face Nancy, her voice rising in a panicked, shrill defensive.
"Goodman Corp? Are you insane? Do you have any idea what they charge? I’m telling you right now! The zoo is footing every single cent of this!"
Jorgan stepped forward, his smile professional and perfectly cold. "Naturally."
He gestured toward Barry. "Allow me to introduce Mr. Barry Goodman, CEO of the Goodman Corp Group and our Chief Surgical Expert. As a gesture of goodwill, Mr. Goodman will personally oversee your husband’s diagnostics and care. If we find his condition is linked to the fire, we’ll cover the medical bills and provide full compensation."
Barry pulled a disinfectant wipe from a pack, meticulously cleaning his fingers without looking up.
"Of course," he added, his voice dropping to a dangerous chill as he tossed the used wipe into a bin, "if we find anything... else... our legal team is just as precise as our surgeons. They’ll give you an experience you won't live long enough to forget."
Clang!
Adam bolted upright on the stretcher, scrambling to his feet with the agility of a track star. "I… I feel fine! Seriously! It was just the stress, the heat... I’m totally back to normal now!"
The crowd didn't hold back.
"Holy hell! It's a miracle!"
"That guy healed faster than the fire trucks got here!"
Nino’s parents went scarlet, grabbing their daughter and trying to vanish into the press of people. Jorgan watched them go, a sharp, knowing smirk tugging at his mouth.
"Trying to pull a fast one? Guess the act’s over!"
"Wait... since when does the CEO of Goodman Corp spend his weekends playing Snow Leopard Officer at the zoo? Am I hallucinating?"
Barry stiffened slightly and shot Jorgan a look that could kill.
Jorgan winced and tried to hide behind Nancy. He’d been so busy posturing for the boss that he’d let the secret slip a little too loudly.
Nancy’s jaw dropped as she looked at Barry. "Unbelievable. You really are a miracle worker. One sentence and the man is resurrected?"
Barry pulled out another wipe and draped it over Nancy’s face, cutting off her teasing grin. "Clean your face. Then get to the tent for an exam."
Nancy pulled the wipe off and started scrubbing the soot from her skin, a quiet smile on her lips.
Behind them, the chaos had been replaced by a sea of white medical tents. As the firefighters finally beat back the last of the flames, the zoo staff began to emerge. The Goodman Corp team was already there, helping the exhausted heroes into chairs, tending to burns, and handing out energy drinks and hot towels. It was a masterclass in logistics and genuine care.
Nancy felt a sudden, unexpected warmth in her chest. She looked at the man standing beside her.
"Barry."
He had already pulled on a clean white lab coat and turned at the sound of her voice.
"Thank you," she said, her voice soft and sincere.
She felt a twinge of guilt. She’d dragged him here as a favor, and he’d ended up bringing an entire hospital wing with him.
Barry adjusted his stethoscope, his expression unreadable. "I don’t like seeing people get hurt." He paused, then added, "It's my job."
He reached out, catching Nancy by the sleeve to guide her toward a chair. "Now sit. Let me see what you’ve done to yourself."
Star was pacing frantic circles around them. "Ms. Nancy, let my human check you!"
Nancy leaned down, ruffling the fur on Star’s head. "Star, are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Barry pressed the stethoscope to her chest, his eyes flicking to the dog. "If he were actually hurt, he’d be rolling on the ground begging for treats and attention. He’s fine."
He looked at Star with a dry, mock-annoyed expression. "And since when do you care if I’m okay?"
Star sat back on his haunches, tail thumping the dirt with total confidence. "You’re tough. You’ve been through hell on the battlefield. You aren't going to die from a little smoke!"
