Nancy headed back to Loren Zoo in high spirits, leading her grand procession of animal detectives! After taking a private car back, she had just stepped out when Leon, who was on shift at the ticket office, rushed over to greet her excitedly.

"Miss Nancy, you're finally back!" Leon panted. "Someone else came to interview for the vet position. She's waiting in the director's office right now."

Nancy was a bit surprised. "Why didn't you give me a call?"

Leon scratched his head sheepishly. "When she heard you were out working on a case, she told us not to disturb you and said she could wait." He paused and added, "She was brought here by Autumn, the vet assistant. She looks like she might be Autumn's senior?"

Nancy's head snapped up. Elsa?

That night, when the elderly landlady was in danger, hadn't Elsa said with her own lips that she never wanted to be a veterinarian again? Recalling Elsa's unnatural reactions during their first meeting, a flicker of curiosity and suspicion rose in Nancy's heart.

She quickened her pace toward the office. Upon reaching the door, she saw Autumn thoughtfully pouring hot water for Elsa, who sat to the side looking quite restless. Elsa still looked haggard; clearly, her anxiety disorder had not eased.

"Miss Nancy, thank you for saving me and my landlady," Elsa spoke in a low voice. She hesitated for a moment before continuing, "I came today, on one hand, to represent my landlady in thanking you. On the other... I wanted to ask if the zoo still needs a veterinarian..."

Nancy's eyes lit up. "Yes! Of course we do!"

She couldn't hide her excitement. This woman was a graduate of a top veterinary school and a senior vet who had survived the cutthroat environment of Summers Corp Veterinary Hospital! Recruiting her was like finding a diamond in the rough; headhunters couldn't poach talent like this even with the highest offers.

"You can start immediately! If you need money urgently, I can give you an advance on your salary."

However, Elsa shook her head gently, her expression becoming more solemn. "There is one more thing... I hope you will hear me out before deciding whether to hire me."

Elsa took a deep breath as if shedding a massive burden and confessed, "The 'Instant-Light' vaccine that Summers Corp is about to launch is actually based on your 'Claw Shield' with aggressive modifications. The medicinal properties are much harsher."

Nancy's pupils shrank. So that was it!

She had wondered how Summers Corp could have developed a new vaccine so quickly. It turned out they had simply repackaged her hard work, even sacrificing stability by increasing the dosage.

Elsa continued, "I discovered this by accident while participating in the project. The R&D was pushed so fast it barely gave anyone room to breathe. I wanted to quit, but Summers Corp used my contract to demand an astronomical penalty for leaving mid-way."

She gave a bitter smile, her eyes full of exhaustion. "I went against my conscience and kept pushing it forward, but I was suffering inside. Combined with the toxic internal competition and immense pressure, I was eventually diagnosed with anxiety... I only managed to escape after presenting a psychiatric diagnosis from the hospital."

"Now that I've said all this, the weight on my heart has finally lifted. I can finally sleep peacefully."

"I'm sorry." Elsa bowed deeply to Nancy, her voice thick with guilt. Although she had only learned the truth after joining the project and hadn't intended to infringe on the patent, she still felt like an accomplice, especially toward the person who had saved her life.

"I didn't have the courage to confess to you before... I was afraid of the Summers family's retaliation." Elsa looked up, her gaze a mix of apology and determination. "It wasn't until you appeared before me and saved my life that I realized this was a sign from fate. It's time to face this. If I don't speak up, I'll never truly be at peace."

As Nancy listened, her expression grew grave. She didn't respond immediately, her eyes reflecting a sense of caution and deep thought.

"If you sue Summers Corp for patent infringement, I am willing to testify in court," Elsa said earnestly, with a hint of urgency. "I'm sorry... I can compensate you, even if I have to work for free without a salary."

Nancy offered a faint smile, but her gaze remained cool and clear. "The one who needs to pay for this is someone else."

Elsa's tone grew anxious, her unease apparent. "But the new vaccine is officially launching the day after tomorrow! If we wait for the legal process to reclaim the 'Claw Shield' patent and prove the infringement step by step... the process is too long. By then, the Summers family would have already made a fortune off this vaccine."

Nancy looked at her, her gaze calm and sharp. "Now, you have a chance to make amends."
