Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 63: The Human Scanner

The abandoned chemical plant loomed in their line of sight.

Simon and Nancy equipped the two squirrels with miniature cameras provided by the police, securing the tiny harnesses to their chests. The Squirrel Bros puffed out their chests, looking like tiny, proud officers. "Let's move out! Go go go!"

The pair darted inside instantly. Climbing walls and scaling trees was second nature to them; with a single agile burst, they vanished into the facility. Meanwhile, Tabby took charge of patrolling the perimeter, watching for any suspicious movement or approaching strangers while looking for local mice to interrogate.

Simon took out a sketchpad and a pencil. As the footage streamed in from the squirrels' cameras, he began to meticulously map out the factory's interior.

Nancy stood beside him, transfixed as her brother's long fingers moved the pencil with the precision of a high-end drafting instrument. Amidst the steady scritch-scratch of lead on paper, a layout of the factory emerged as if it were being printed—down to the exact placement of the ventilation ducts in every workshop.

A top graduate of the National Police University indeed... she marveled silently. Her brother’s terrifying spatial reasoning and drafting skills were effectively a human 3D scanner.

Half an hour later, the older squirrel scurried back. "We found Jonas!" The camera on its chest had successfully captured footage of Jonas. In the video, a young man was tied to a chair, looking gaunt and exhausted.

The older squirrel said, "He's being kept in a tiny shed up North. There are two guards standing watch. My brother is staking out by the window. There are no one else but him inside."

Nancy felt a surge of relief. "Do the two humans have any weapons on them?" she asked the squirrel.

"They have electric batons strapped to their waists."

Nancy translated the intel for Simon and the other officers. The miniature surveillance also showed two other men patrolling the factory grounds as lookouts.

After a brief consultation with his team, Simon made the call. "We'll hop the wall from the north and secure the hostage as fast as possible. Four officers will move to neutralize the two lookouts."

With Jonas's presence confirmed, the tactical vehicles closed in. Fully armed officers surrounded the factory. Just as Simon and his team were about to move, the Tabby came sprinting back at full speed.

Its tail lashed back and forth urgently. "A black car is approaching! It came by the factory yesterday. Do you want to apprehend the men in the car? The men in the car slapped Jonas last night!"

Nancy immediately relayed the warning to Simon. He adjusted the plan over the radio. "Split into two groups. Team A, secure the hostage. Team B, intercept that black vehicle. Don't let them realize anything is wrong or they’ll bolt!"

The detectives and tactical officers sprang into action.

Nancy fed the Tabby a cat treat, her tone almost sycophantic. "King Tabby, how do you manage to gather so much intel so quickly?"

The cat licked its paw with slow, deliberate movements. "I've kidnapped the mice king and I asked him to send information back to me."

Nancy was stunned. He truly was a feline mob boss.

"Otherwise, I had to do everything myself and that'll be quite exhausting," Tabby added with a haughty sniff.

Nancy couldn't help but think. A leader who can't delegate is a leader who dies at their desk.

With such precise intelligence, the operation was swift and surgical. Simon soon emerged from the factory, supporting a shaky Jonas. The ambulance summoned by the police arrived shortly after, its sirens wailing.

Paramedics placed Jonas on a stretcher. As they passed her, Nancy felt a knot of anxiety in her chest. She had no idea if Jonas was injured in a way that would derail his career. It would be a tragedy if a once-in-a-generation talent was forced to retire before even stepping onto the world stage because of this kidnapping.

At the same time, the black car was successfully intercepted. The police pulled out a driver, two bodyguards, and a woman dressed in extravagant jewelry.

Nancy’s pupils contracted.

The woman being hauled out of the car, dripping in diamonds and pearls, was the exact same "rich socialite" from the paparazzi photos who had been chasing Jonas out of the sports club.

A flash of panic crossed the woman's face as she was dragged out, but she quickly straightened her back, her voice rising to a shrill pitch. "On what grounds are you arresting me? Do you have proof? My car was just passing by!"

She shook off an officer's hand and straightened her collar. "I want my lawyer! Right now!"

Simon’s eyes turned cold, his voice laced with ice. "Ma'am, the station has excellent interrogation rooms. You'll have plenty of time to explain yourself there."

The woman’s face turned ashen. she opened her mouth to argue, but one sharp look from Simon silenced her. She was forcibly escorted into a police cruiser.

Nancy learned from the officers that the woman was Sharon, the thirty-six-year-old CEO of a major pharmaceutical firm and a member of the exclusive sports club. Both groups—the kidnappers in the factory and the woman in the car—had been caught in one fell swoop.

As the tactical teams began to pack up, the officers couldn't help but praise the Squirrel Bros and Tabby as they passed by.

"That was the most efficient operation we've ever run! Could you please work with us more often?"

"These little guys are incredible. With their intel, it’s like we’re playing with cheat codes!"

"If that cat hadn't warned us about the car, we would have been in for a long, messy chase."
