Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 265: The Translation Filter

4 min 1 views

"Nancy, the hitman and the arsonist both talked. Chandler's the one who gave the order. The police just authorized his arrest. He hired Randall to start the fire, then sent the other guy to kill him."

Nancy stared at Simon’s message, feeling a massive weight lift off her chest. She didn't expect the case to move this fast, but with Simon on it, the evidence was clearly solid.

She hit the location share button immediately.

"Simon, Chandler is at the International Horse Show. Get here fast. I'm keeping an eye on him."

Chandler saw Nancy glued to her phone, ignoring him completely, and his face twisted with annoyance.

"Look at you," he muttered. "No respect for anyone, just burying your head in your phone while a guest is standing right here. You lived with us for twenty years and you still haven't learned how to act in public."

Nancy looked up. Her whole view of him had changed. She had wanted to tear into him, but knowing he was about to be in handcuffs made the effort feel pointless. Why waste energy on a man whose life was already over?

Chandler was clearly trying to bait her. He knew Callum valued composure and was counting on Nancy making a scene that would get her kicked out of the room.

But Nancy stayed calm. Instead, she looked at him with a mix of pity and detachment. It was the way a doctor looks at a patient with a terminal diagnosis. The look was so unnerving it made Chandler's skin crawl.

Nancy turned to Callum and greeted him in his own language. "Hello, Mr. Callum. I’m Nancy, the veterinarian. Sorry for the interruption; I was just handling an urgent message from the police."

Nancy was a natural with languages. During her time with rescue groups in the desert, she’d picked up enough of the local dialect to be fluent.

"Don't worry about it. Police business is important," Callum replied, nodding. "Mr. Goodman mentioned you’re a consultant for the force."

Hearing his native tongue was a huge surprise. He reached out, slid a heavy ruby ring off his finger, and pressed it into Nancy’s hand as if it were just a token.

"Miss Summers, you speak my language perfectly. I’m impressed."

Callum smiled, showing off his diamond-studded dental work. "A small gift for the meeting. There’s a much bigger reward if you can fix my horse."

Nancy stood there, stunned by the weight of the gem in her palm.

Callum’s translator stood by to relay the words. Chandler watched the exchange, his eyes nearly popping out of his head. He had been talking for an hour and Callum had barely looked at him.

Chandler’s composure finally broke. He forced a smile and turned to Callum. "Mr. Callum, there’s been a misunderstanding. Summers Corp is the official veterinary partner for this show. This girl just snuck in with our staff to try and look important."

Callum listened to the translator and shook his head. He looked at Nancy with clear approval. "No."

"Miss Nancy was personally recommended by Barry. He doesn't hire people who don't know what they're doing."

Chandler went pale. He leaned toward Nancy and hissed, "Don't think just because you’ve latched onto Barry that you’re going anywhere."

He turned back to Callum, trying to ruin her reputation. "Mr. Callum, this girl is my foster daughter. She’s all theory and no experience. Her methods are outdated."

The translator didn't miss a beat. In a smooth, flowing voice, he translated into Callum's language: "Mr. Chandler says Miss Nancy is a prodigy he raised himself. She is incredibly bright and has a very solid medical background."

Callum nodded, and Chandler, thinking he was winning, kept going.

"Nancy has no character. We had to kick her out of the house. She’s only here to cause trouble."

The translator spoke again. "Mr. Chandler adds that Miss Nancy is fiercely independent. She is here today because she truly cares about the animals."

Callum looked at Chandler with genuine appreciation. "Mr. Chandler, thank you for telling me this. It gives me a much better sense of who she is."

Chandler saw Callum’s smile and beamed, convinced his plan had worked.

Nancy didn't know every single word of the language, but she knew enough to catch the main points. She realized with total shock that the translator was taking every insult Chandler threw and turning it into a compliment.

The guy was covering for her.

Nancy looked down and sent a quick text to Barry: "Something weird is happening. Mr. Callum’s translator is actually helping me."
