The young man had a dark, bitter look in his eyes. He struggled against the handcuffs, shouting at the top of his lungs.

"It wasn't me! I didn't poison my dad! Grayson probably teamed up with Renee and Susan to bribe you people and frame me! They just want my share of the money!"

Captain Roger didn't blink. "Shut it," he snapped.

"Ashton already gave us everything to save his own skin. He told us how you contacted him, how you paid him, and how you promised to get him out of the country once it was over."

As Johan Woods was shoved into the patrol car, reporters scrambled to get the shot. Back inside the estate, the other three children immediately swarmed Captain Roger.

Grayson Woods grabbed Roger’s arm, acting disgusted. "Johan is a monster. How could he do that to his own father? He deserves the death penalty. Tell me, Captain, he can get executed for this, right?"

Captain Roger pulled his arm back. "I'm a cop, not a judge. Don't ask me."

Renee Woods pushed her way to the front, her eyes sharp. "Captain, does this mean Johan is cut out of the will? The law says a killer can't inherit, right?"

"Yes, that's usually how it works," Roger said, clearly losing his patience.

Susan Woods tried to cut in too. "Captain, what about…"

The three of them went off, talking over each other. They wanted to know about sentences, inheritance, and asset division. Not one of them asked how their father was doing, what kind of poison was used, or if he was even going to make it.

Nancy watched the display and shook her head. She was ready to grab the Tabby King and leave when she heard a cane hit the floor behind her.

It was Jose. He looked completely relieved.

"Good work," Jose said. "I see why you were so full of yourself earlier. You actually have the talent to back it up. I take back what I said. You handled this in three hours by yourself. That’s more than Jack ever did with all his family connections."

Jose glanced at his secretary, who handed Nancy a bank card.

"Ms. Nancy, 1.6 million will be in this account within two business days."

Nancy felt the weight of the card. That was a serious payday. She kept her face neutral as she tucked it away.

Jose wiped his forehead. "That was way too close. Having this mess land on me right before the Garuda Corp opening was a nightmare."

His flagship store wasn't for casual shoppers; it was the hub for distributors from all over the country. Every person at that opening represented millions in potential orders.

"If the Woods family drama had tanked the opening, the damage would have been massive."

Nancy put on a polite smile. "Mr. Jose, you made the right call. If you hadn't put up the reward, this would have dragged on for weeks. You showed that when things go sideways, you handle it instead of just complaining."

She gave him a quick nod. "With that kind of attitude, I'm sure the store will be a hit. This is just the start for Garuda Corp."

The compliment landed. Jose actually laughed. "You're all right, kid."

He had his secretary hand her a gold-embossed business card. "If you ever need anything in the food industry, call me."

They swapped cards. When Jose saw her titles as a Vet and Animal Communicator, he looked impressed.

"My secretary mentioned you were good. I heard you even fixed up a purebred horse that the top experts couldn't handle."

He nodded to himself. "I'll send some big clients your way. As for Owen... his kids are a disgrace. He probably deserves them, but I'm glad he didn't take me down with him."

Jose leaned on his cane, looking much more relaxed. "Once he's awake, I'm taking a fruit basket to his room just to rub it in. I'll sit there and eat everything the doctors won't let him touch."

Nancy watched him walk away. Just then, the butler, Ben, came running in.

"Mr. Owen is awake! He's out of the woods!"
