Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 420: A Proactive Self-Recommendation
Immediately after hanging up with the police, Devon dialed his private attorney. "Max, I want you to draft a formal complaint against Neo Summers Corp and Anders immediately. Cite personal injury, contractual fraud, and defamation. I want to bury that company once and for all."
Nancy had just arrived on the scene and overheard his words. She felt a strong urge to give the man a round of applause.
When Devon’s gaze landed on Nancy, the oppressive aura surrounding him vanished instantly.
He stepped forward, his expression solemn and sincere. "Miss Nancy, I cannot thank you enough. If you hadn't arrived when you did, my voice and my entire career would have been ruined."
He paused, lowering his voice. "Neo Summers has been putting an incredible amount of pressure on me regarding my contract. I suspect this incident is their handiwork. Thank you for helping me dodge this bullet. The audition went perfectly."
Nancy waved it off with a smile. "No need to thank me. Protecting the safety and rights of citizens is part of the job."
She was about to go into more detail and ask him to come to the station for a formal statement when her phone vibrated in her pocket.
It was a message from Simon: "Nancy, the first meeting for the elite training starts in ten minutes. Did something happen? Do you need me to come get you?"
Nancy glanced at the time and felt a jolt of panic. Crap! I was so focused on catching the poisoner that I completely forgot about the 3:30 meeting!
Devon was just about to speak. "To show my gratitude, I…"
"The officers will handle the follow-up with you!" Nancy interrupted, her words tumbling out at high speed. She was already turning toward the door like a wound-up clock. "I have an emergency! I have to go!"
Before the sentence even finished, she had vanished like a small whirlwind, leaving nothing behind but the sound of her receding footsteps.
Devon, caught mid-gesture with his hand extended for a handshake, awkwardly tucked it back into his pocket.
He stood there, staring at the empty hallway where she had just been, feeling a mix of amusement and confusion. This consultant of the police certainly moved fast.
He turned to his assistant, looking thoughtful. "Was Nancy and her animals the ones who got bullied by the Neo Summers crew? I heard it was a massive scandal."
The assistant nodded vigorously. "That's her! People often refer to her as a lucky charm. The bigger the mess with Dessert Route became, the more popular her web drama Sanddune got. It’s a massive hit and it hasn't even officially aired yet."
Devon looked back at the empty corridor, a hint of regret in his eyes. "She did me such a massive favor, and I didn't even get a chance to thank her properly."
His gaze fell on his call log, stopping at Ramsay’s number.
Perfect.
Ramsay was close with Nancy; he would know the best way to return the favor.
The moment the call connected, Devon got straight to the point. "Ramsay, Nancy just did me a huge favor, and I want to thank her properly, but I’m not sure what would be appropriate."
Ramsay hummed thoughtfully for a moment before letting out a hearty laugh. "What a coincidence! Nancy is actually setting up a film and television company to manage her animal actors. If you really want to thank her, you could send a few good projects her way that need animal performers."
Ramsay’s tone then turned more serious. "Also, she’s developing an animal-centric detective series. The budget is modest and the crew is fairly standard, but the script is brilliant. The role of the police officer would suit your style perfectly. If you're interested, I can pull some strings for you as a way to pay her back. What do you think?"
Ramsay promptly sent over the first five scripts written by Sicily.
Devon read through them in one go, the spark of genuine interest bright in his eyes. "I’ll take the role! I assume... there aren't any other contenders?"
Ramsay laughed on the other end of the line. "You’re a multi-award-winning actor. Who could possibly compete with you?"
Devon’s finger tapped rhythmically against his phone screen before he asked a question that caught Ramsay completely off guard. "Does her company... sign human actors?"
Ramsay froze, his mind struggling to process the shift. "What? Are you... trying to recommend someone new?"
"No," Devon replied, his voice clear, calm, and entirely serious. "I’m recommending myself."
Ramsay was shocked.
He almost thought he had misheard. An actor with a net worth in the hundreds of millions and top-tier industry resources was trying to sign with a brand-new company that hadn't even officially launched yet?
"Devon, you... you’re not joking, are you?" Ramsay’s voice climbed an octave. "Nancy’s company barely has its paperwork filed! She has zero foundation and zero resources in the entertainment industry!"
