Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 198: The S Rank Access
Captain Neil's frustration grew, especially as he looked at Ginnie. As Jack Summers's biological sister, she had the massive resources of Summers Corp Veterinary Hospital behind her—facilities that were certainly not inferior to Townsville University's labs—yet she was still here fighting over a campus laboratory.
Captain Neil viewed the siblings as his own kin. Every time he watched them solve a case, it was like seeing two young trees growing taller and stronger day by day, filling him with an unspeakable sense of pride. At that moment, a wave of uncontrollable anger surged in his chest.
Without making a scene, Captain Neil pulled out his phone and quickly sent Nancy a message:
"What kind of experiment do you need to do? Send me your application materials. I have a friend in the Department of Agriculture and Forestry who might be able to help you apply for a lab."
Almost simultaneously, Nancy looked down and saw two messages pop up on her screen. One was from Captain Neil; she looked up and cast him a grateful glance, shaking her head slightly to indicate he needn't go to the trouble. The other was the reply from Professor Nathan.
Without hesitation, Nancy tapped the screen and opened Professor Nathan's chat box first.
Silence fell over the conference room as the conversation stalled. In the midst of this tense atmosphere, Ginnie suddenly stood up, her voice gentle yet clear as she broke the deadlock. "Let's not be like this. We're all here for scientific research; there's no need for things to be unpleasant."
She looked at the group with a perfect display of sincerity. "How about this? I can give up Laboratory A1." Her gaze swept past Nancy almost imperceptibly. "It's just that there are still some final experiments for the 'Instant-Light' vaccine that must be completed in A1. Perhaps... Nancy could wait just a little while."
She slowed her speech, appearing very conflicted. "But please rest assured, as soon as it's finished, I will immediately withdraw all of Summers Corp's equipment, data, and medical staff."
Upon hearing this, Soren's expression relaxed, as if he had found a convenient way out of the predicament. He turned to Nancy immediately, his voice carrying an undeniable authority and even a hint of reproach. "Nancy, you are a sensible person. You should be able to distinguish what's important, right?"
"The 'Instant-Light' vaccine concerns the reputation of the entire Townsville University School of Animal Medicine! In the face of such a major event, why quibble over a moment's delay?"
His words were steady and clear; while they were addressed to Nancy on the surface, they were really meant for Jensen. It was as if all the tension had stemmed from Nancy and Jensen being "unreasonable" and "pushy."
The phone vibrated softly. Nancy glanced at the screen, and when she looked up, a composed smile had bloomed on her lips. "President Soren, you've misunderstood. I'm not forcing anyone."
Nancy's tone was calm. "In that case, I will not apply for Laboratory A1."
Hearing this, Ginnie could barely suppress the upward curve of her lips. Her fingers tightened around the key representing the access to A1. The cold sensation of the metal brought her a surge of pure delight! After so many confrontations, she had finally gained the upper hand over Nancy! This felt like a sweet aperitif of victory just before the launch of the "Instant-Light" vaccine.
Soren let out a long, silent sigh of relief when he heard Nancy back down. He thought Nancy was smart enough to know when to stop and hadn't forced him into a truly impossible position. He was just about to nod in approval—
However, Nancy's voice rang out again, clear and steady. "President, did you say earlier that no matter which laboratory I apply for, the rent would be waived, correct?"
Soren frowned, his tone already carrying a hint of impatience. "That is what I said." Why? Do I need to repeat myself?"
At that moment, Nancy slowly turned her phone screen toward the group, clearly displaying the chat interface with Professor Nathan.
"I just asked Professor Nathan's opinion," Nancy's voice wasn't loud, but it was like a stone dropped into a still lake, sending out massive ripples. "Professor Nathan replied—"
She announced word by word: "Laboratory S1 is mine to use now."
In an instant, the entire conference room fell into a deathly silence, so quiet that one could hear a pin drop. Soren felt as if something had suddenly choked him. His eyes bulged as he cried out, "What... What?!"
"That's absolutely impossible!" He practically sprang from his seat, his voice shrill with disbelief. "How could that stubborn old man agree to you? You're a total stranger to him, and he wouldn't even let me have anything!"
On the other hand, the elegant, victorious smile that had just bloomed on Ginnie's face instantly froze and shattered.
