Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 337: The Rug Is Pulled
The Special Bites line had become an overnight sensation. Ginnie spent her days posting smug updates on social media, making sure everyone knew her persistence had finally paid off. She took plenty of shots at the slanderous advice she was glad she had ignored. After a long slump, Summers Corp was finally back on top, and the atmosphere in the office was electric.
When Nancy walked into the building to clear out her desk, the glares from her former coworkers were sharp.
"How does she even have the nerve to show up?" someone muttered.
"She nearly sabotaged Ginnie, trying to force the company to pay triple for Krill Algae. If Ginnie hadn't stood her ground, we wouldn't be looking at these numbers today."
Nancy ignored them. She was checking her watch, waiting for the official announcement that Sanction Peaks was being placed under an immediate ecological lockdown.
Ginnie hurried over as soon as she heard Nancy was in the building. She looked radiant, practically glowing with the satisfaction of a winner. "Nancy, I have some news," Ginnie said, her smile wide. "We just landed a massive international order for next quarter. Sales have already cleared a hundred million. We’re hosting a victory banquet at the Townsville Grand Hotel tonight, and I really think you should be there."
Nancy looked at her calmly. "Have you actually recovered your R&D costs yet?"
The question was a bucket of ice water. The room went cold. While the sales figures were impressive, Summers Corp had sunk over a hundred million into development and production upgrades. On paper, the project was still deeply in the red.
Ginnie’s assistant immediately jumped in. "The product hasn't even been out for three months! How could we be in the black yet? Do you have any business sense at all?"
The rest of the staff joined the chorus, dismissing Nancy’s words as pure jealousy. Ginnie raised a hand to quiet them, her tone patronizingly soft. "Now, let’s be fair. The product’s success is partly due to the tweaks Nancy made to the initial plan."
"She just polished the foundation you built, Ginnie!" someone shouted back. "The soul of this product was yours from day one."
Ginnie took Nancy by the arm, almost dragging her to the hotel for the banquet. All night, Nancy was the target of whispers and sneers. Everyone was convinced that her last-minute objections were born of envy and could have cost the company its fortune.
At the peak of the party, Ginnie stood under the spotlight with a glass of champagne, her voice amplified throughout the ballroom. "Today, we celebrate the massive success of our new line! I still remember when I first proposed this innovative concept..."
She stood there, basking in the praise. In the middle of the speech, Nancy checked her watch. She walked over to the side of the room and turned on the massive LCD screen.
"...We have a breaking news update. Relevant authorities have issued a joint announcement today. Effective immediately, Sanction Peaks is being placed under a total ecological lockdown for restoration. During this period, all commercial harvesting of local flora, including the specialty algae, is strictly prohibited."
The news anchor’s voice hit the room like a bomb. The music stopped. The laughter died. Everyone stared at the screen in total horror.
The champagne glass slipped from Ginnie’s fingers and shattered on the floor, but she didn't even notice. The room descended into pure chaos.
"We’re ruined! What about the pre-orders?"
"We're in the middle of our biggest sales window! We can't just stop production!"
Ginnie finally snapped out of her shock. Clinging to a desperate hope, she screamed at her team to call procurement and buy up every single pound of the algae left on the market. She was naive enough to think that because it was a niche ingredient, there would be plenty of stock sitting in warehouses to save them. Shaking with fear, she started barking instructions at the department heads in the room, demanding they hit every backup supplier and get a crisis response ready immediately.
