Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 379: The Table Turns

4 min 1 views

Nancy felt a hell of a lot better after the first successful bust. She and Simon met up and headed out immediately to help the other squads track down the rest of the group.

The two of them joined the third tactical unit. Their targets were two scouts on the perimeter who had broken rank and were currently running in opposite directions through the freezing waste.

The air was dead quiet, save for the static filled radio chatter between the spies. "Hawk, I am blown! What is your status?" barked a man named Blades, a nasty scar running down his face.

Heavy breathing came through the speaker. "Blades, they are on me too! How did the army track us through this?"

Blades trudged through the deep snow, a vicious idea hitting him. "Remember those wolf packs we saw in the northwest valley? We head for their dens right now and meet there!"

A cruel look crossed his face. "We lead the soldiers right into them and use the sonic emitters to piss the wolves off. Let those starving bastards do the dirty work. It is mid winter and they are desperate for a kill. That will give the army more than they can handle."

"Do it!" Hawk replied.

The two pivoted, sprinting toward the valley where the wolves lived. As soon as they hit the edge of the den, they pulled out high frequency sonic emitters and jammed the switches.

A piercing shriek tore through the silence of the mountain.

Driven into a frenzy by the noise, the pack surged out of their dens with their teeth bared. The two spies scrambled to lead the wolves toward Nancy’s position, laughing as they ran.

"Let these soldiers see what it feels like to be cornered! Let's see how much they want to chase us then!"

Seeing the dark mass of wolves rushing toward them, the soldiers dropped into a defensive formation. The lead wolf was a massive brute, and he started salivating the moment he saw Nancy. "I am starving. That little human looks tender. She will be a feast."

As the pack closed in, the lynx lunged forward to shield Nancy. Even though he was smaller than the wolves, the cat arched his back and let out a guttural screech that echoed off the canyon walls.

The pack skidded to a halt. The lead wolf let out a whimper and instinctively backed up. In these mountains, the lynx was the top assassin, agile and lethal enough to kill a lone wolf in seconds. Even with the numbers on their side, the wolves were smart enough to be scared of those cold eyes. No wolf wanted to be the one the cat remembered if they ever ended up alone.

"Idiots!" the lynx snarled, his voice full of authority. "Look at who your real enemy is."

He raised a claw and pointed toward the fleeing spies. "The ones who just insulted you with that noise are right up there. Catch them for us and you will have enough food for the whole winter."

Nancy took the hint and signaled the squad leader to bring out the meat crates. "A gift to start! Catch those two and there is a full barrel of fresh fish and meat waiting for you."

The scent of fresh meat hit the pack like a hammer. The aggression vanished instantly, replaced by tails wagging so hard they were a blur.

"You are the new boss!"

"Move out! Follow her and we get to feast!"

"Point the way, we won't miss a single one!"

The pack of mountain killers turned into loyal recruits in a heartbeat, wheeling around and charging after the spies.

Further up the slope, the two spies looked back. Seeing nothing but silence and no sign of the soldiers, they broke into grins.

"Blades, you hear that?"

"Yeah. Sounds like they found something to eat. They are excited."

"The army is getting the VIP treatment right now," Hawk wheezed with a smirk.

"Wait, why aren't they shooting? No gunshots?"

"Probably scared to give away their position," Blades said, puffing his chest out. "They think they can play with us? We spent five years studying these peaks. This is our house. A simple trick and we turn the mountain against them. They are dead men."

He had not even finished the sentence when a rustling sound came from the dark woods.

Without warning, dozens of glowing green eyes lit up in the shadows. The wolves had surrounded them from every side. Low growls rose from the darkness, forming a perfect circle. The smug looks on the spies' faces froze, replaced by pure terror.
