Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 248: The Primate Fire Brigade
"Patrolling for half the day has really worked up an appetite. Life is good!"
"I wonder what delicious treats Miss Nancy has prepared for us today!"
"Ever since the new Director arrived, my waistline has grown a full size!"
"Hunger is the enemy! Charge!"
However, as the cheering troop of Capuchin monkeys rushed back to their "dining hall"—the clearing where they were usually fed—the sight that greeted them was not a banquet of fruit. Instead, they saw two towering trees engulfed in flames and billowing black smoke.
The troop froze in an instant. The banana clutched in the lead monkey's paw hit the ground with a soft thud.
The next second, a chorus of sharp, explosive shrieks erupted from the monkeys:
"Holy crap! Our home is on fire?!"
"Waaaaah, Miss Nancy! Our treehouses! Our hammocks!"
In the midst of the chaos, the Monkey King lunged toward a keeper, nimbly grabbed a lightweight fire extinguisher, and turned to face his tribe. His voice was loud and steady:
"Children, stay calm!"
Nancy had long considered the density of the park's foliage. She had specially equipped every corner with these lightweight extinguishers and had conducted fire safety training specifically for these intelligent Black-capped Capuchins. It was a precaution designed so they could save themselves in the event of a sudden night fire.
As the most intelligent of the New World monkeys—creatures capable of teaching themselves to use stones to crack nuts—learning to use a fire extinguisher was child's play.
"Do you all remember the steps Miss Nancy taught us?" The Monkey King held the extinguisher high, his eyes glowing with intensity as he scanned his kin. "Now... we are the only ones who can protect our home!"
Under his command, the monkeys regained their composure. They took the lightweight canisters handed over by the staff, their gazes hardening with determination. They were no longer just monkeys; they were a disciplined squad of "Firefighting Apes"!
Nancy's eyes were red. She snatched a fire blanket from an employee, ready to charge forward. "I'm going up with them! Everyone else, stay below for support!"
Barry immediately reached out to block her, pulling her behind him. "You stay here and command. I'll go."
"But—" Nancy started, her face full of worry.
"No 'buts'." Barry had already taken the fire blanket and signaled to the keepers. "Everyone, form a safety net under the trees. If a monkey slips, catch them immediately."
The keepers moved instantly, forming pairs to stretch out fire blankets as protective nets. A young keeper's voice trembled with urgency: "Director, don't go up! Let us handle it!"
The Monkey King glanced back from the branches. "Don't worry, Miss Nancy! We have the high ground!" He turned and waved his arm. "Children! For our home, charge!"
The Capuchins climbed the trunks with the extinguishers gripped in their mouths, moving as nimbly as if they were on level ground. Below, the keepers looked up tensely, constantly adjusting their positions to ensure a safety net followed every monkey.
As Nancy focused on the fire, Master Crow suddenly arrived with several sparrows, chirping urgently in her ear.
"The southeast wind is picking up!"
"Embers from the right side of Tree Three are drifting toward the Capuchin nests!"
Nancy immediately looked up and shouted, "All personnel, eyes up! The wind has shifted southeast! The monkeys on the right side of Tree Three, pull back! Focus on protecting the habitat!"
She turned to the keepers, explaining rapidly: "Master Crow says the embers are drifting toward the nests!"
Barry remained a constant shield by her side. His past experience with a combat medical team gave him an instinctive judgment of firegrounds. He used his body to block any flying sparks while surveying the scene with cold, analytical precision, delivering rapid-fire orders:
"Team Two, move three meters to the left! Prepare to receive the retreating troop. The fire will follow the wind toward your current position."
His deep voice carried a reassuring power; every command was precise and decisive.
High above, the Capuchins climbed to neighboring canopies, maintaining a safe distance from the flames. Their flexible, prehensile tails became a true "fifth hand." The monkeys used their tails to hang securely from the branches, completely freeing their hands to grip the extinguishers and spray the fire below with pinpoint accuracy.
This aerial assault covered fire points that were unreachable from the ground.
"That flame on the left!"
"Copy that! Watch me!"
The monkeys coordinated perfectly, quickly suppressing the flames on the two trees. On the ground, Nancy and Barry led the staff in tackling the lower hotspots, while Star alertly nudged spare extinguishers back and forth to supply the team.
The tourists watched the scene in stunned silence before a wave of gasps and cheers broke out.
"My god!! The Firefighting Apes are here!!"
"Monkeys are truly capable of anything!" Their professional skills are better than the employees at my company!"
