Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 326: The Official Detail
Before she finished them off, Nancy was going to make the Summers family pay back every cent they owed her, with interest.
She didn't waste any time, dumping the thick stack of files and demands into Ginnie’s arms.
Ginnie clutched the heavy documents, her temper finally hitting the ceiling. "Nancy! Do you think I'm your personal assistant?"
"Clause 32 of the supplemental agreement. It's right there in black and white." Nancy crossed her arms, her voice casual but cold. "The Project Assistant must provide full cooperation for all reasonable work requests. Are you telling me you're going to let a personal grudge tank the entire project and violate a legal contract?"
She leaned in, making sure every word hit home. "Everything I'm doing is for the company."
The shareholders had just seen a path to a global hit. They weren't about to let Ginnie ruin their payday. They immediately started leaning on her.
"Ginnie, stop being difficult."
"The project comes first. Just get it done."
Ginnie’s chest heaved as she felt the weight of everyone’s judgment. Finally, she forced the words out.
"...Fine."
Ginnie walked off, fuming in silence. Nancy didn't want to spend another second in that building, so she headed straight for the Townsville Police Headquarters.
She was there to sign for a promotion and a raise.
On the way, her phone buzzed with a bank alert. The three-million-dollar down payment had cleared. Nancy couldn't help but hum to herself.
The driver caught her eye in the mirror and smiled. "Good mood today?"
Usually, driving for Barry was a silent, high-stress job. Driving for the easygoing Nancy felt like a vacation.
Nancy nodded. "You have no idea. I've been waiting for today for a long time."
She’d heard Jack was being officially cut loose today. Meanwhile, her animals were getting their official IDs. Her crew was finally getting on the government payroll.
Nancy grinned. "Put on something loud and happy."
The driver obliged, and the Maybach’s sound system filled the car with high-energy music.
When they pulled up, Nancy saw her Animal Detective van parked right out front.
Simon was there in his dress uniform, looking as stiff as if he were leading a tactical raid. In reality, he was just trying to get the Detective Squad to line up properly as they climbed out of the van.
The big tabby led the way as the squad leader. The squirrel brothers were wrestling over their tails, and Snowball scrambled up Simon’s arm to park on his shoulder. Master Crow was busy pecking at Chunk to wake him up.
Leon, the zoo hand who had driven them, jumped when he saw the signature Maybach pull in. He snapped to attention, only relaxing when he realized it was just Nancy.
Simon saw his sister step out of the luxury car. The polite officer look vanished instantly. He scowled at the Maybach, then at her.
The driver leaned out. "I'm going to get the car serviced nearby. Call me when you're done."
Nancy thought about taking her own van, but she still had to head back to the hospital for her follow-up. Bringing a pack of animals to the clinic was a disaster waiting to happen, so she let Leon handle the squad's return trip.
"Thanks, I'll call you," she said.
The arrival of the animals turned the lobby into a circus. Sam and Captain Simmons were both there to meet them, giving them a level of respect that had every other cop in the building staring.
Nancy led her noisy, furry team toward the registration desk to set up their official consultant files.
The second they stepped inside, the mood changed.
Jack was at the counter, looking like hell. He had a cardboard box full of his office stuff at his feet. The clerk behind the desk was handing him forms with total indifference.
"Mr. Jack, these are your termination papers. Sign them and we're done."
Jack kept his head down, silently filling out the paperwork that ended his career as a consultant.
