Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 272: The Miracle Worker
"It’s one thing to be ambitious, but interrupting a professional exam like this is dangerous. If she spooks Cloud, it’s on her."
Brandon sighed, looking genuinely disappointed. "I can't believe it. The Nancy I knew years ago was hardworking and grounded. I didn't think she’d become this desperate for a shortcut."
A few vets in the other teams started snickering. "Is this girl for real? She thinks a fifty-million-dollar stallion is some stray mutt from a village? You can't just wave and expect a horse like that to come running."
But before the laughter could even die down, Cloud’s head snapped up. His eyes, which had been dull with discomfort, suddenly lit up. He stared at Nancy in pure disbelief.
My God! Finally! She actually gets it! She really knows! Finally, a vet who understands the pain! She knows exactly where it hurts!
"I'm coming! Hang on!"
To the utter shock of everyone watching, the arrogant stallion suddenly acted like a hyperactive puppy. He broke into a light trot, his hooves clicking against the floor as he bolted straight toward Nancy.
Ginnie and Brandon were standing right in his path and didn't even have time to move. Cloud’s massive head just shoved them aside with total irritation.
The impact sent Brandon’s paperwork flying everywhere. Ginnie, still dealing with her back injury, took the hit and landed hard on her backside, looking like a total fool.
Cloud arrived in front of Nancy like a white whirlwind.
As he reached her, he slowed down with perfect grace. He bent his front knees in a flawless curtsy and lowered his head.
"Beautiful lady, please. Help me with this pain."
Callum stood there with his jaw dropped. He actually grabbed Barry’s sleeve. "My God! Cloud just bowed to her! He’s the most arrogant horse I’ve ever owned. He won't even do that for me unless it's a formal show!"
As he watched the horse treat Nancy with that kind of respect, the last of Callum’s doubt disappeared. "Mr. Barry, I was wrong. Nancy is in a league of her own."
Barry’s lips curled into a tiny smile. His eyes never left Nancy. "I don't pick the wrong people."
Nancy gently stroked Cloud’s neck and leaned in close to whisper to him.
"You feel something tiny moving in your blood, don't you? Like it's drifting through your veins?"
Cloud started nodding his head vigorously, nuzzling his head into her hand. "You’re amazing! You didn't even need those loud, clunky machines to find it!"
Nancy followed up quickly. "When did it start? Did anything happen that day?"
Cloud blinked his large eyes, thinking. "About two months ago. The stable vet was cleaning out a small cyst at the base of my mane."
Nancy’s mind raced. "Did he use a very light, very thin needle?"
Cloud’s ears shot up. "Yes! It felt like a tiny mosquito bite! How do you even know that? Is this some kind of magic?"
He looked at Nancy with pure worship.
Nancy rubbed his neck and smiled. "I’m almost certain it’s a micro-titanium needle. One of the ones used for cyst removal. It must have snapped off in your vein."
If it were a standard needle, the horse’s blood vessels are too large for it to travel, and the machines would have caught it. But micro-titanium needles used for equine hair work are different. They are biocompatible, incredibly thin, and light enough to drift with the blood flow. That makes them almost invisible to standard imaging.
The only question now was whether the vet had been careless or if it was intentional.
Once Cloud realized what was torturing him, it all clicked.
"No wonder. It only stabs me when I run and my blood starts moving fast. Right now it’s in my front left leg, just a bit higher up. I can feel it poking me."
Cloud nuzzled Nancy like a pouting puppy. "Please help me."
Nancy almost lost her footing from the force of the horse’s head-butts. So much for the cold, arrogant stallion.
She patted his head. "Don't worry. I'll get it out today. We're getting that thing out of you right now."
Callum saw how much Cloud trusted her and was about to ask what she found, but Ginnie’s voice cut him off.
"Mr. Callum! We’ve found it! A major breakthrough!"
