Animal Whisperer: Take Back My Life and Love Chapter 44: The Premonition

The driver nodded politely, though he didn't believe a word Nancy said.

Nancy thought it over, still feeling uneasy. Even if they stayed put, other vehicles would be heading down the mountain. If a disaster struck, lives would be at stake.

"Wait," she said, frowning. "Do you have any emergency warning signs in the car? We should set up a roadblock. Driving down now is far too dangerous."

Jack, the driver, pulled over and maneuvered the van sideways across the road before stepping out to set up the warning signs. Since Nancy was a guest specifically looked after by Mr. Goodman, he figured it was best to simply follow her instructions rather than risk offending her.

Nancy climbed out with the animal carrier. They weren't far from Critters Villa—less than a kilometer's walk. Just as she prepared to head back on foot, several cars appeared, driving down from the estate.

The lead vehicle was a custom Rolls-Royce, the kind of car that screamed wealth and status. Jack’s eyes widened as he recognized it immediately. "That’s Mr. Errol’s car."

Seeing the road blocked by a van and warning signs, the Rolls-Royce came to a halt, forcing the trailing vehicles to stop behind it. Errol’s driver, Lincoln, stepped out. "Jack, what’s going on here?"

Jack explained quickly, "This lady says a massive storm is coming and that there's a high risk of landslides. She insisted I block the road and set up the signs."

Lincoln’s expression turned solemn. "Do you have any proof of this?"

Nancy stood her ground, holding a large black umbrella in one hand and the carrier in the other. "I’m an animal communicator. I’ve spoken with the local wildlife. The sparrows on this mountain can sense a storm is imminent."

Her face was set in a serious, tense expression. "The ground is vibrating slightly. A landslide is very likely!"

Knowing she was a guest Barry had personally looked after, Lincoln didn't dismiss her. He trotted back to the Rolls-Royce to relay the message to Errol.

To Nancy's lack of surprise, Errol stepped out of the car, looking absolutely livid.

"You again?" Errol gestured with his cane toward the clear, cloudless sky. "If you're going to lie, at least make it believable. I see what this is. You don't want to leave. You made up this ridiculous excuse so you could stay at the villa and nag Barry into a contract."

Nancy replied coolly, "You're overthinking it. Critters Villa isn't exactly a place I'm desperate to stay at. Today is your birthday celebration; I simply don't want to see a day of joy turn into a day of mourning."

Both drivers stood in stunned silence. This young woman was incredibly bold—her tongue was just as sharp as their boss's.

"You..." Errol was nearly speechless with rage. "Let me tell you something. I am heading down this mountain to sign an urgent contract. Do you have any idea what's at stake?"

He was practically pointing his finger in her face. "It's a twenty-million-dollar deal. If you ruin this for Foster, can you even begin to take responsibility for that loss?"

The "Foster" Errol mentioned was Barry’s younger half-brother. Foster had a history of failed business ventures, but he had recently returned to the country claiming to have secured a twenty-million-dollar deal as a birthday gift for Errol. He just needed Errol to sign as a guarantor.

Errol had been thrilled to see his younger grandson finally achieving something and was in a desperate hurry to get down the mountain. He hadn't expected to be blocked by a stranger.

"Jack, move this van and the signs immediately!"

Nancy narrowed her eyes. Errol clearly already had a poor impression of her and wasn't going to listen. She didn't want to argue with him, but if something happened to the old man, Barry would be distracted, and Star’s rehabilitation would suffer. Barry’s presence was essential for the dog's recovery.

Nancy pulled out her phone and called Jacob. "Sir, tell Barry that a massive storm is coming and a landslide is likely. Errol refuses to listen to me and is insisting on heading down."

She hung up just as Jack began clearing the signs to move the van. After all, Errol’s word carried more weight than Nancy’s.

However, halfway through moving the vehicle, Jack’s phone rang. He stopped, turned off the engine, and left the van sitting right in the middle of the road.

Jack stepped out, looking conflicted. "Mr. Errol, I just received a call from the boss. He ordered me to keep the road blocked."

Errol’s temper flared. "Do you take orders from me or from that brat?"

Jack lowered his head, avoiding a direct answer. "The boss is only concerned for your safety, sir."

"Concerned for my safety?" Errol sneered. "He’s doing this on purpose to stop Foster from signing that contract!"

Just then, a crowd of bodyguards in black suits emerged from the direction of Critters Villa, carrying heavy permanent barricades.
