CAIDEN: He says. “Let me see them.” I tell him. And he walks a little away from the couch, and pans his phone to show me the chairs. “I like the couch, but not so much the chairs, it’s too much dark on dark.” I tell him. “Ok.” “Jayden, you pasted a chair, it had a high back, in the style reminiscent of 30’s, could you go back to that?” Chi asked him. “Of course, baby girl.” And he started to walk back the way he had come. Panning his phone. “Let me know when to stop.” He says. When he got to the chair, she liked. “STOP.” she almost yelled. “Ok. Which one?” “The light tan, sandy colored one, with the textured fabric.” She said. It was indeed a high-backed chair done in a clamshell design. And there were two of them as a matching set. He checked them over, and other than a couple of nicks on the legs, there didn’t appear to be anything wrong with them. And again, they were on the smaller scale; all she would need now would be a love seat, if they could find something that would go with those chairs. “How much are they?” Chi asked. $45 for the pair.” Jayden said and showed her the price tag on one of the chairs. “Ok.” She says to him. “Do you like them?” Jayden asked her. “I do. But you guys can’t be spending all this money on me.” She says. “Chi, listen to me.” I said. “We would spend three times the amount if it meant you were happy. The money doesn’t matter to us. And the fact that you won’t let us spend it just makes us love you more.” I tell her before Jayden can say anything. “Exactly. Listen to Caiden, love.” Jayden tells her. And she is blushing again. “So, Caid, anything as far as chairs for us then?” He asked me. “Walk around, and pan your phone, and I will see if there is anything I like.” I tell him. And he does. I see a chair that’s a couple of rows from where he is standing, so I direct him to what I am seeing. It looks like a comfortable chair. It’s not in the high-back style, but it’s in a mix of colors, kind of like a carpet would be, with three different but complementary colors. A sand, caramel, and soft brown. Like the color of cardboard. “Check it out.” I tell Jayden. He sits in it. And nods. Then he calls the guys over to try it. They seem to like it as well. “If there is a set of those, take them.” I tell him. “Will do.” He says. “Hold on, I will ask the salesperson.” He hands his phone to Vince while he goes and speaks to the salesperson. “So, what’s left?” Vince asked. “A love seat for Chi’s and I think, depending on how many chairs, if it’s a set and they have both, or not, two more chairs for our space, and that should be good.” I tell him. “Ok.” He answers. Then Jayden comes back and takes his phone back. “We are in luck, they are a matching set, and they still have both chairs.” He says. “Good. I will leave the next two up to you to pick.” I tell him. “Ok. And we have to find one more piece for Chi. Right?” “Yep.” I say. And he starts to move to another area. I watch her face as she looks at my phone screen. Her eyes light up when she sees a soft green love seat; it looks like it might have the same textured fabric as the chairs she picked. “If you see something that you like, tell him.” I say to her. And I watch her hesitate. “Jayden.” “Yeah?” “There is a green loveseat somewhere close to you. Go check it out.” I tell him. “I see it.” He says and makes his way over to it. “Is it close to the same fabric as the chairs she picked?” I asked him. “Yeah, actually it is, just a different color.” He answers. “How much?” she asked. “$150.” “No, that’s too much! On top of everything else.” She says. “Get it.” I tell him. “Will do.” He says. I’m going to cut the call now, so I can go find that last set of chairs for us, and then we’ll get the stuff loaded and be on our way, and we’ll stop and get lunch.” He says and cuts the call. “Caiden, it’s too much. Your mother isn’t going to be happy that you are spending your time and money on and with me.” “She is going to blame me for turning you against her.” She says. “Chi, mother did that all by herself. When we finally realized what she was doing, how she was manipulating us, we were afraid not to do what she said. Until we put you in that coma, when that happened, we, and yes, I mean all eight of us, were afraid that we were going to lose you. We all woke up when that happened. We all saw mother for what she truly was, a conniving, manipulative bitch.” “And she poisoned us with her prejudices. But that isn’t going to happen anymore, and as long as Jayden and I are here, we won’t let her hurt you or anyone anymore. I promise you.” I tell her. It was about 30 to 40 minutes later when the guys showed up, and we got her furniture up to her little efficiency. And it was placed just the way she wanted it, so she wouldn’t be doing any arranging or lifting. Then we took her with us to take our stuff to our outbuilding. I wanted her there. I couldn’t help it. “When we are done, we will go get Iesha and go out for dinner.” I tell Chi. And watch her light up, with the biggest smile I have ever seen on her face.

CHAD: My sisters, Brandi and Valen, all showed up to help move the new furniture in. I watched Chi for any signs of withdrawal, and I caught it. The minute she saw Valen, she shrank in on herself. Staying as far away from her as she could possibly get. And speaking only when one of us asked her a direct question. It was heartbreaking to watch. But we all had to deal with the consequences of our actions towards her, and Valen more than most, because she would often go out of her way to bully Chi. Once all of our new furniture was in and in place, we all just took a breather, sat down, and discussed where we wanted to go for dinner. The twins had Chi sitting between them. She kept her eyes down and wouldn’t look at any of us. But she wasn’t trying to get away from the twins, which was progress for her.

LOUISE: I saw the boys bringing in some new furniture, and I caught sight of that good-for-nothing human bitch with them. It makes my blood boil. I have to stay calm.
