Alpha Twins' Mate's broken Human Chapter 27
CHIARA: I tell her. She nods her little head. “But what did you mean when you said you don’t change?” I asked her. “We don’t change, the human is who the human is, we TRY to guide them to do the right thing, but it doesn’t always work.” It is my turn to nod. And we continued playing.
DERRIC: “The four of you boys will start your vigil in the morning. I don’t care who, or when, you can decide that between you, but each of you will take a half-hour shift, and you will cover the time that the girls are in school. When the girls get out of school then they will take their turns standing vigil. And as I said, you all had better pray to the goddess that she comes out of the coma, because if she dies, each of you will get the whip.” I reminded them. I left them standing in Chiara’s room to go find Nathan. I found him in his office. I knock and wait. “Come.” He calls out. I entered. “Nathan, do you have copies of her X-rays?” “Whom are we discussing?” he asked. “Sorry, Chiara.” “Yes, Alpha, I have all her X-rays.” “Can we get copies of them on paper as well?” “Yes, I believe we can.” “Good, because I want them copied and put in her room as well so they can see how much she went through at their hands.” “I mean no disrespect when I say this, Alpha, but isn’t that going a bit too far?” “According to Chiara and Iesha, they killed Jace, accident or no, Chiara blames them for his death. Will you pull his file for me? I want to know what happened to him. And pretty much every time she ended up in here, it was because of them; it was at their hands, even if the Luna requested it. They need to see just how much pain and suffering they put her through.” “Yes, Alpha.”
CAIDEN: We all just stood where we were, for about a minute or two after Father left. “We need to come up with our schedule for our vigils.” I stated. “This is not fair. When will we be able to get our homework done or study for tests?” Valen whines. “Give it a break, Valen. If you weren’t so hot-headed, we might have been able to get through this without any issues. But you just had to go and put her in here before we knew who we were going to get as targets. Now you'd better hope she wakes up, and from now on you don’t get to touch her.” Vince scolded her.
JAYDEN: “Enough! We are not going to fight; we need to do as Caiden said and figure out a schedule. Father said it was only 30 minutes apiece, so there is still plenty of time for you to do your homework and studying. It also leaves us time to do our duties as needed for the Pack as well.” I said to them. They nodded. “We will start after breakfast. Father said that we will spend the nights in the cells, so once we are released, we shower and do our morning routines. Get breakfast. Who wants to start?” I asked as I was writing the schedule out on a paper towel. “I will go first.” Chad stated. So, I put him down for the first 30 minutes. Starting at 8:30 am, then at 10:30, I put myself in that spot. Vince took 12:30 pm. Caiden took 2:30, Brandi took 4:30, Valen took 6:30, Carri took 8:30, and Cassie took 10:00. I made copies and handed them out to each of us, so we had them.
VINCE: I watched as Jayden made the copies of the schedule. None of us looked up. None of us wanted to see the pictures. We didn’t want to acknowledge that we were responsible for what we were seeing. But in the end, I did, and I couldn’t wait to get the hell out of that room. I know that I will be surrounded by them while I stand my vigil. But I didn’t realize just how much we did to her. ‘Goddess, please let her live.’ I prayed.
CHAD: I couldn’t look at the walls. I didn’t want to see the torture we inflicted on her. So, I watched her. I watched her face. She was at peace wherever that was. I don’t know much about the human world, but I prayed to Salene, and I asked her to intervene on our behalf to whatever deity they follow to please let her live. No, it wasn’t because I was afraid of the whip. On the contrary, I would welcome it if it meant that I would get to apologize to her. I doubt the girls have the same feelings on the matter, but that’s on them. I am sorry for my part in what happened to her.
DERRIC: I left the doctor’s office and went back to the kids. “Have you figured out your schedule?” I asked them as I entered the room. “Yes, father.” Caiden answered as he handed me a copy of the schedule they made. “Thank you. Now, who wants to tell me about what happened to Jace two years ago?” I asked them. And watched them all blanch and look down. “Jace was an accident. We didn’t realize the girls spiked his drink, and we didn’t see the rock that was embedded in the ground, so when we started to push him, he stumbled, hit his head on the rock, and cracked his head open. It truly was an accident; we didn’t mean to kill him, just like Bandon beat him up, is all.” Jayden said. “Show me.” I said to them. “What?” Caiden asked. “I want to see where this happened.” I tell them. We left Chiara’s room and headed out of the clinic and over to the clearing in the woods behind the school.
IESHA: I wasn’t able to get to the clinic until after lunch. I brought some candles with me, scented ones, ocean breeze, one of her favorite smells. I put them around the room and lit them. I pulled up a chair next to her bed. “You know I am not a fan of Dracula, but I know that it’s your favorite book, so I am going to read it to you. And maybe who knows, I might get to have a better understanding of it for the book report.” I tell her. As I got comfortable in the chair. I opened the book and started to read to her.
CHIARA: I hear a voice, … I know that voice, but I can’t place it. … I listen and I hear?... Dracula. I can’t help but smile. “She misses you.” I hear Salene say from behind me. “Iesha, she will be 18 soon, and she will get to meet her wolf. Hopefully, her mate, as well, and then she can be happy and live her life without the threat of the ranked squad.” I tell Salene. “Do you still perceive my children as being monsters?” “Not these little ones.” I say as I wave my hand
