CHIARA: When my name was called, the majority of the class stood and cheered for me. I was not expecting that at all. I was humbled by it. The cheering lasted until I got back to my seat, then everyone quieted down, and the ceremony continued.

IESHA: I knew the class was going to cheer for Chi. How could they not? She was a survivor. She beat the odds, and she came out on top. I was so proud of her. I could hardly contain myself from going up on stage and hugging her, but I didn’t. Hugs will wait until the commencement is over. Once everybody had cleared the stage and the last speech was given, I made a beeline right for Chi. I wrapped her up in the biggest hug I have ever given anybody, and yes, that includes mom and dad. “Time to celebrate!” I said. Chi nodded. “Are you going to the BBQ?” Chi asked. “Yeah, it’s for us. I mean the graduating class, that is.” I said. She shook her head no. “Oh come on, Chi, it’ll be fun, and free food.” I said. “Yes, it’s for the graduating class, but the Luna forgot that I’m part of it. She doesn’t want me there, or anywhere near her precious twins.” Chi said. “But if you don’t show up, those same said twins will come and get you.” I tell her. “And you know I’m right.” I added. Yeah, unfortunately, I do. I just wish that she would leave me alone.” Chi said. “I know, but the twins will be there, and so will the Alpha. I don’t think that they will let her do anything.” I tell her. “Fine, let’s go. I don’t want the twins coming and dragging me out of my apartment and causing a scene.” She said. “But I am not staying late, I have to ride back home, and I want to get there before it gets too dark.” Chi added. “I understand. I will see you there.” She nods and heads to get her bike. And I go to mom and dad, and we head over to the pack house.

LOUISE: I hope to the goddess that the little bitch shows, because she will play right into my hands if she does. And once I have her in custody, then all bets are off. I will let Rolan and Simon have their way with her, and I don’t care what they do to her. I have a guard in place to grab her when the time is right. When the distraction is set in motion, and everybody’s attention is moving in that direction, he will grab her, knock her out, if he has to, and take her to the bunker. Then, in two weeks, when the mate ball starts, I will be able to get Rolan out of the Pack, because with everyone coming in for the ball, Derric won’t feel him leaving. I will get him off the pack lands, and then it will be up to him to get home. I won’t be able to leave during the actual ball. But he can take that little bitch with him, or he can dispose of her however he wants, as long as she isn’t anywhere around here or near the twins. I don’t care what happens to her. I have Vance and Benton manning the grill, and I put Shannon, Misha, and Blair in charge of keeping the meat stocked for them to cook, keeping them focused elsewhere rather than on me or the orphanage and what I am doing. I see that the little bitch is here. Good. This is going to be easy now. Thank you, goddess. After the majority of everyone is served, I link Simon. “Get the fire going.” Then I sit back and wait.

SIMON: I got the fire started, and I got the kids there, with strict instructions to keep it burning and keep it high and hot. Then I left, knowing I could trust them to do what I said. I went back to the barracks so that I could be seen, and my squad could vouch for me.

CARRI: Every so often, when the wind shifted, I could smell wood burning. It wasn’t all the time, and at first, I thought it was from the grill. They did have the smoker going. But then I caught sight of flames. “FIRE! FIRE!” I shouted and pointed in the direction I caught the flames coming from. Then I took off running. I heard the rest of the people who were at the BBQ start to follow me.

CHIARA: I heard Carri call fire. I turn to look in the direction she is pointing. “NO, no, no. Not the orphanage! Goddess, please don’t let it be on fire.” I breathed a silent prayer. And I took off at a dead run. What I thought I could do, I don’t know, but that had been my home, and home for many of us, and it still is. I have to help in whatever way I can. Only I don’t get too far. I feel a sharp pain behind my ear, and everything goes dark. … When I come to, I am handcuffed and hanging from the ceiling. (“Shh, Chi, don’t let them know you're awake yet.”) Thena says in my head. (“Where are we?”) I ask her. (“I don’t know. But we are not alone; they have us cuffed in silver, so I won’t be able to shift, but I think we can still take them, whoever they are, by surprise. Just play dead a little longer.”) She tells me. I do my best to do as she asked me.

CASSIE: Everybody got up and made a mass exodus towards the direction of the flames. I heard someone crying behind me. I couldn’t stop to see who it was. I needed to get to where the fire was and help to get it out. We were all there. We rushed to the fire, only to see that some kids had built a fire in the orphanage's fire pit. Thankfully, the building was safe, and there was no damage done.

IESHA: I was just in front of Chiara when we all got up and took off toward the fire. Once we all arrived, though, and saw that it was contained in the fire pit, I started looking around for Chi. But I didn’t see her. “Chi! Chi!” I called for her. But I got no answer. I called again, but again I got no answer. I called her phone, I heard it ringing, so I followed it back. I found it lying on the ground. (“Deena, can you smell anything?”) I asked my wolf. (“No, Esha, I’m sorry, all I can smell is the fire.”) She tells me. Shit! I kept calling for her, though in case she might be somewhere close by. But I am still getting no answer. I am starting to panic. This is too similar to what happened to her when she was put in the coma. Chad found me as I was starting to work my way back, following our pathway. “Esha? What’s wrong?”
