Alpha Twins' Mate's broken Human Chapter 16

CHIARA: “What’s so fun…. She stopped mid-sentence when she saw the dress, and all the color drained from her face. “Oh, goddess Chi.” She whispered, “Hey Donna, it’s ok, I am not going to wear this. I know what it is. I will not give them that satisfaction. I already know what is going to happen, but I have no choice but to go. But he doesn’t know about this, so I don’t have to wear it.” I comforted her. I was not her roommate two years ago, or I would have stopped her from wearing the dress she got that week. “How about we get a little back on the Luna?” I asked her. “ He who, and How?” “ The Alpha, he alpha commanded me and two others to go to the Prom/Party. Let’s take this thing and go out back and burn it  in the fire pit.” I say to her. She nods her head. “Link Iesha for me, please? Ask her to come over, I want her here for this, too.” I ask her. “Sure.” And I watch as her eyes glazed over. 10 minutes later, Esha shows up. “Hey, what's up? I am not sure I understood the message right.” She said. “We are going to have a small bonfire.” I said, raising the dress, shoes, and box. “Chi! Where on earth did you get that? It’s gorgeous.” “A gift from the Luna to mark me as the target for the ranked squad for this year’s Prom/Party.” I answered her. “What? How do you know? Is there a card or anything?” She asked. “Donna, tell her what happened two years ago.” I said. “I was severely beaten. I had received a green dress mid-week before the Party/Prom. I thought I had hit the lottery; the dress was pretty and fit me like it was made for me. I didn’t know that it marked me as the visual target for the ranked squad to beat the shit out of me. And the worst part, I don’t even know what I did to upset them or the Luna.” Donna said. “So, we are going to get our own back on the Luna and have a small bonfire, want to come with?” “Sure, but it’s a shame that it’s getting burned. Couldn’t you just donate it?” “And have some poor unsuspecting person become a target for the ranked squad? That wouldn’t be fair or right. No, the thing to do is burn it. And even though she isn’t here to watch it burn, it will make a statement when I don’t show up in it. And come to think of it, I will wear a pair of jeans and one of Jace’s shirts. Give them the visual reminder of what they did two years ago, and that I didn’t forget. Although I do want to do a little shopping, maybe and find a decent pair of ankle boots to wear with them.” I said. And we left the room and headed to the backyard of the orphanage and over to the fire pit. I grabbed some dried grasses and some twigs. And the matches. I started that burning first, then I put the box in, then the shoes went in the fire and made sure that they were burning, then the dress. We stood there and watched it all burn. It felt good, in a way, to know that she just wasted that money. I looked over at Donna, and she looked relieved, like a weight had just lifted from her shoulders. “Feels good, doesn’t it?” I asked her. She nods her head. Then she turns and hugs me. “Thank you for this.” “Welcome.” I whispered to her and hugged her back. “I think I understand now, about Jace. I wish someone could do the same for you.” She said. I smiled and shook my head. “It’s ok. Don’t worry about me.” I tell her. We stay there watching everything burn, and then I stir the ashes to make sure everything burned down to ashes; there was nothing left in the pit to even suggest that we burned a dress and a pair of shoes. Burning those things was like getting our own back on the Luna, even though she was nowhere to see it. But we did, and that was enough; it felt good. There were a couple of hours before dinner was called. “Do either of you want to go to the second-hand store with me to see if I can get a pair of boots?” I asked. “Sure.” Iesha answered. “Wish I could, I have to go help clean the Pack house.” Donna answered. “I am sure that I will be back to helping next week, that is, if they don’t totally put me out of commission.”  “Which, if you are the target, you will be.” Donna states. “Yeah.” I answer. “Let’s go Esha.” I said as we made our way to the back gate, and Donna went to the front to head to the Pack house. I watched the ground as we walked. I picked up the spare change I found as we went. ~~FLASHBACK~~ “Chi, come on, let’s go for a walk.” “I have homework Jace.” “I will help you when we get back, I promise.” He held out his hand, waiting for me. I walked up to him, took his hand, and we headed out to the playground. We picked up all the spare change we found and then headed around to the shopping district and walked the parking lots, again picking up all the spare change we found.~~ END FLASHBACK.~~   “Hey Chi-Chi, where did you go?” Esha was snapping her fingers in my face. “I’m sorry, Esha, this just brought back a memory of Jace.” “What was it?” She asked. “We would sometimes go for walks, and we would hunt for spare change or other things that we could use or pawn to get money for. We would split everything we got 50-50, so that when the time came, we would have seed money when we left here.” I told her. “Chi, I don’t want to lose you. You are my best friend.” She said to me. “Hey, we talked about this. You are not going to lose me, unless the ranked squad ends up killing me, and if that were to happen, I want you to have everything. You will find my money hidden in a sock inside the bottom bed post closest to the door. You will have to unscrew the knob and pull the string up. I don’t know how much is in there. I haven’t counted it lately, but whatever is there will be yours, you will just have to get it before they clean the room and put someone else in it.” I tell her. “Don’t talk like that. Surely they would be punished.” “They didn’t get punished for Jace. What would make you think they would get punished for me? The Luna would rather I be dead than free to warn people about the woods, because then she would very much lose all her slave labor, with no humans falling prey to this place like he did.”
