CHIARA: I told her. She just sat there thumping her tail. And I swear she was grinning. After our shopping trip, I was tired. “Thank you for the coffee and the gifts.” I said to the twins. “But I promised Iesha that I would help her study for her finals, and it’s getting late.” I said to them. “It’s no problem, we will accompany you to Iesha’s house.” Caiden said. I turned to look at Iesha. She nodded. “Very well.” I gave in. On the way to Esha’s home, the conversation turned to Mitch, Trent, and Zane. “What will happen to them?” Esha asked. “Jayden and I will have to contact the council to put all of them on trial. As far as Mitch, Trent, and Zane are concerned. They will get held back a year, so they will retake their junior year. And we think that they should spend the summer doing Medow Lake training, which should be enough to make them understand the bad choices they made. And as for Rolan, he will be charged with other, harsher charges that we hope will get him banished from our pack for good.” Caiden said. “But won’t that get the Luna upset? I mean, after all, he is her brother.” I said. “Speaking of that, Chi?” Jayden said tentatively, “What?” I asked, drawing the word out and looking at him skeptically. “Mother is getting out tonight.” Jayden dropped the bomb. I blanched. I couldn’t speak. My heart started racing, my head was spinning, and I couldn’t breathe. “Does she know?” I asked in a horsed whisper, more to myself than to them. “Goddess, she is going to hate me even more. She will make my life even more of a living hell than she already has. I have to get out of here!” I was in a full-blown panic. “No, no, no!” I kept chanting over and over.

CAIDEN: I linked Chad. *“Get up here now!” “On my way.”* I closed the link. This will be the test of whether his aura will work on her or not. I knew that they were following us, staying back by a couple of blocks.

CHAD: I took off at a dead run after getting that link. When I caught up to them, I saw that Chi was in a full-blown panic attack. I approached her slowly, letting my aura out gently to roll over her in soft, comforting waves. “Chiara, whatever it is, you are safe, I promise. No one is going to hurt you.” I spoke softly to her as I approached her. I could see that she had calmed some, but not fully. “You can’t say that. You don’t know that. She will find someone to hurt me. If it’s not any of you, she will find someone else to do it, to curry her favor.” She said in a broken voice. And I felt her statement shatter the twins. They knew the truth behind her words. “No, Chi, we won’t let that happen. Not anymore.” I spoke softly to her. I didn’t have to ask what she was talking about; I figured that one of the twins told her that the luna was getting out today.

VINCE: After Chad took off, we all did. So, we were there to hear Chi’s statement. It didn’t just shatter the twins; I think it shattered all of us in some way. I held the rest of us back to let Chad do his thing. I could see it helped, but she didn’t fully settle down. It was going to take a lot of work.

JAYDEN: *“What are you getting from her?”* I asked Chad through the link. *“Straight up fear, plain and simple. Fear.”* He sent back. I nodded to him. “It’s ok, Chi, Caiden, and I will make sure that she won’t hurt you. I swear by the goddess. Let’s get you to Iesha’s so you can rest.” I spoke softly to her. I didn’t want to send her spiraling again. I couldn’t help myself; I picked her up and started to carry her the rest of the way to Iesha’s house. “Jayden put me down.” She said. “Nope. You have had a nasty shock. I am going to carry you to Iesha’s. I don’t want you fainting.” I said. I felt the tingles from the bond when I picked her up run through me. But I also felt her recede and push Thena forward. “ Hello, Thena.” I said. “Hello, Jayden. Honestly, you can put us down. I can assure you I won’t let her fall.” Thena said. “I enjoy holding her,/ you,” I said, smiling at her. “I enjoy it as well, but it is a bit overwhelming for Chi.” She said. “I understand, I do, but she will have to get used to it; my  brother and I will continue to show her that we will not hurt her, that she can count on us.” I said. “I will allow it this time, just because I enjoy it. But in the future, you will have to proceed a bit slower and not overwhelm her.” Thena said. “Understood, but it’s her birthday today, consider it another gift for you and her.” I said. She chuckled at me. Caiden couldn’t help but get in on the bond as well; he held her hand the rest of the way to Iesha’s house. I put her down and steadied her until she was able to stand on her own. “There, safe and sound.” I said. It took a few minutes of them conversing, Chi and Thena. “Thank you.” Chiara answered back softly, almost a whisper. “Welcome.” I whispered to her. I stepped closer and kissed her temple, and Caiden did the same from her other side. Her cheeks flushed a beautiful hue between pink and tomato. It was adorable. “We have to get back to the Packhouse for dinner; father and mother will be waiting for us.” I said. Both girls nodded. And we all left.

CHIARA: I was grateful when they were gone. I felt I could relax some. “Esha?” “Yes?” “Will you take a picture of Thena for me? I will pay to get it printed.” I asked her. “Of course I will, but I will pay to get it printed; you can consider it my gift to you, for your birthday.” She says to me. (“Thena?”) (“Yes, Chi, what is it?”) (“Will you be ok if I tell Esha she can have her parents come and see you?”) I asked her. (“Of course you can, she is our best friend.”) She answered back. (“Thank you.”) I said to her with a hug. (“See, I told you, you could still hug me.”) She said. And I swear she was grinning again. “Esha, if you want, you can ask your parents to come see Thena, I asked her, and she said she didn’t mind.” I told her. “Really?” “Yes, really.” “Oh, Chi, thank you.” She said excitedly. And I watched as her eyes glazed over. And then the door to her house opened, and her parents came out. “Chiara, it is good to see you up and about.” Iesha’s parents greeted me. “Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Hill.” I said.
