CHIARA: Monday was pretty quiet for me. I did a beaded bracelet for Iesha, using her favorite colors, and I found some slightly bigger beads that had painted wildflowers on them that I incorporated into it. Then I worked on my thread painting; it was a bit harder than I imagined it would be, but I stuck with it. I did take out stitches and redo them. Until I got the image that was in my head right on the fabric. It was challenging, but I enjoyed working on it. I enjoy creating. So, it was soothing for me. I lay down to take a nap after lunch, because I knew I was going to be up late with Iesha’s first shift happening at midnight. I wasn’t going to let my best friend down by not being there or not being at my best to go for a run with her. When I woke from my nap, I took a piece of plain paper, colored a star design on it, and used it to wrap her bracelet in. I was just going to get my bike out. To head over to Esha’s house when Mr. Hill was at the front door. “Mr. Hill?” “Chiara, I am here to pick you up. Iesha wants you to have dinner with us, and since you aren’t really supposed to overdo things, I decided to come and get you for her first shift, and I will bring you back after the run.” He says. “Thank you.” “Welcome. Let’s go.” He says, and I follow him out to his car. We get to the house just slightly ahead of Iesha, getting home from school. “How was school?” I asked her. “It was good, and thank you so much for keeping me on track with that damn book report. I had forgotten all about it, and it's due tomorrow. So, thank you for that. Because now I can just turn it in and there is no stress about it.” She says. “Speaking of, I wish I had known I would have brought mine, and you could turn mine in for me.” I said. “No worries, you can give it to Dad when he takes you home.” I nodded at that. “Here.” I handed her my gift. “Chi, you didn’t have to get me anything.” “I didn’t, I made you something.” I said in answer to her comment. “Semantics.” She said. “Hu ah, it’s different, I didn’t buy you anything, I made you something.” I said. “You bought the stuff to make it.” “Yes, but I got more out of it than what I just made for you.” I tell her. “Ok, fine.” She opens the gift I made. It has her name beaded into it, along with the flower beads, and all her favorite colors. “Chi, it’s beautiful. Thank you.” “You're welcome.” I tell her. Then I helped her with whatever homework she had until dinner. Then we chilled, took a nap until her wolf woke her, and she woke us. We all went outside for her first shift. Once we were outside, she hit the ground, “OH GODDESS, it hurts!!” she almost screams. Her parents and I coach her through the pain. And a minute past midnight, there stood a big grey wolf with 4 black paws, tan on the tips of her ears and around her snout. I let out a gasp. “Hello Chi, hello Thena.” Then she turned and greeted her parents. “I take it you know my daughter’s wolf?” Mr. Hill asked. “Umm, yes, sir, this is Deena. She was one of the pups I was in charge of when I was with the Goddess, when I was in my coma.” I tell him. “Hello Deena, my girl, you are beautiful.” He tells her. She humps, wags her tail, and nuzzles him. I go to the side of the house and shift into Thena, and come back out. Thena nuzzles her friend, and then they take off running. They headed straight for the woods closest to the house. They ran, nipped, and played, like they did when they were pups. All of a sudden, the woods got eerily quiet. Then we smelled it, rotten meat. ROGUES!! We didn’t even have time to inform anyone. Before we were surrounded by 5 very large, mangy grey wolves. Before Iesha could panic, I reached out to her. “Don’t panic, they both know how to fight, even if we don’t. The goddess made sure of it.” I tell her. “Ok, but what do we do?” “Just let them do their thing, and don’t interfere.” I tell her. Thena and Deena stood with their tails to each other, and when the first wolf lunged, Thena went high with her strike, raking her claws across its snout and down its neck. The second one lunged, and Deena went low with her counter. Raking her claws across its rib cage. Slightly catching its underbelly. Then two of them jumped at the same time. Trying to get on our backs, but we were faster. We turned and kicked out with our hind legs. Sending those two crashing hard into the trees, with a howl that woke the Pack and a sickening crack and thud. The last one waited for the first two to get back up, and the dance started all over again. This time, the one that hadn’t been hurt lunges. And tries to bite Thena in the shoulder. She bent her knees and sat back on her haunches as the wolf flew past her. She rakes its side with her claws. Causing it to yelp loudly. We kept the dance up, but we were both getting tired. With it being Iesha’s first shift, that alone takes a lot of energy. Then the watch showed, followed closely by the ranked squad, and they made short work of the last two; we were able to kill another one. We shifted right then, we were tired, I had nothing left that I could help Thena with, considering I was still in recovery mode myself.  And then we heard it, the three loudest growls, they shook the ground we were standing on. It felt like a mini earthquake. In a blink, I had the twins engulfing me, and Chad was in front of Iesha. Caiden had stripped off his shirt and put it on me. And Chad had done the same for Esha. We all heard it, Chad, ‘MATE! MINE!’ and he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in and took a deep sniff. None of us moved until he eased off a bit. Everybody knows you don’t get between mates, especially new mates. And ranked wolves' mates. Jayden picked me up, and Chad picked up Iesha, and they carried us out of the woods. Like we weighed nothing. When we came out of the woods, Iesha’s parents were there, both in wolf form, ready to go get their newly shifted daughter. The minute they saw Chad with her; they shifted back and ran to her. “Baby, oh my baby, are you ok?” Mrs. Hill asked her. And Mr. Hill was checking her for any injuries. “I’m ok mom, really, I am.
