Werewolf
Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 118
***Kaiden***
Chaos. Chaos is everywhere.
As soon as Dean warned me that there was an attempted invasion on the south side of my pack, I immediately headed there.
As much as I wanted to stay with Katie and talk to her, well, more than talk, of course, it wasn't possible because the safety of my pack comes first.
My responsibility as an alpha to protect everyone runs through my veins, demanding that I take care of everything.
Also, if I protect my pack, as a result, I am protecting my mate.
I didn't tell her the reason for my abrupt departure, and she didn't ask either; I think she was still upset about what happened previously.
I shifted, and Troy ran towards the South; I didn't even need to mindlink Jason because now that he lives with Katie, he was already there when I received the information.
As soon as we arrived at the location, the situation was almost contained. However, there were still some motherfucking rogues attacking my warriors who were patrolling this side of my pack.
'Something's off,' Troy informs me, fully alert.
He scans the entire perimeter for new attacks, but there didn't seem to be any more rogues than were already here.
Jason joins the fight, and after a while, all the rogues are dead on the ground.
Troy continued scanning and then ran further in the direction beyond my pack.
'The rogue stench is everywhere. There's no way it's just those,' Troy informs.
But even after Troy did his own thorough patrol, growling at anything that moves even the wind, no more rogues appeared.
'Alpha, what's wrong?' Max mindlink me from my side, also in his wolf form.
'When did the attacks start?' I ask him, but my eyes remain fixed, scanning everything around me.
'I've been here since the night before. I was almost out of my shift when I started to smell the stench of rogues,' he informs me and also begins to scan the area.
'It's been three nights since Chad reduced the number of people here at the border because, after the last round of the tournament, some warriors needed more time to recover.'
This piques my curiosity. Chad didn't tell me that. In fact, when I asked him about the report, he said that everything was under control.
'As soon as I saw a rogue attacking one of the wolves that was patrolling, I ran over to them to help, and other rogues started appearing,' he continues as we walk around the border, my eyes looking straight ahead of me.
'As they didn't seem so strong, I hoped to have greater control of the situation, and as soon as I could, I alerted you.'
'You did good, Max,' I mindlink to him, this time looking into his eyes.
In his wolf form, Max submits, 'Alpha, I think something's wrong here,' he says and turns his nose toward the north of the border.
I don't answer him, I immediately mindlink Chad, 'Where are you?'
He takes a while to answer me, and Jason mindlinks me, 'Kaiden, this attack was bizarre; something is off, man,' Jason says in a firm and worried voice.
'Where's Chad?'
'He was at the Elite Training Center when we came here,' Jason replies.
Suddenly, I feel tightness in my chest.
Katie.
'Kaiden, I'm at the Elite Training Center, I already heard about the attack, do you need me there?' Chad mindlinks me.
'Something happened to our mate,' Troy growls.
Before I did anything, Dean mindlinks me, 'Alpha, the hospital was attacked–'
'Where's Katie?' I interrupt him, and start running towards the hospital.
The hospital isn't very close to here, so Troy runs desperately. At the same time, I mindlink Jason, even though he ran after me when he saw me running, 'The hospital was attacked.'
'I'll send a team–'
'Jason, take care of the border, not just this one but the whole pack,' I growl at him, and he retreats.
'Yes, Alpha,' he says, stopping following me, 'as soon as I have news, I'll let you know.'
I don't bother answering him, I open my connection with Dean again, 'What happened?'
'Alpha... I...' Dean starts to stutter.
'Answer me!'
However, the one who mindlinks me is Isabel, 'Alpha, the northern border was attacked, but everything is already under control.'
*What the fuck?!*
'Isabel, don't leave the border. Contact Jason right now,' I order her.
'Yes, Alpha,' she answers.
'Chad, give me a report on–'
'I'm already preparing this right now; everyone here at the Training Center is already on alert to see what's going on. I'll let you know as soon as possible,' Chad interrupts me.
I came running so fast that I didn't even realize that I was almost close to the hospital; I was so focused on barking orders to maintain order that I didn't even pay attention.
I don't think I've ever arrived at a place as quickly as I did here.
When my eyes catch sight of the hospital entrance, there is no need for anyone to inform me that there has been an attack, as the smell of blood and rogues permeates the place.
As soon as I enter the hospital, I shift and don't even worry about my nudity because everyone is already used to it.
I grab a pair of black shorts from a basket on the side and put them on immediately before my eyes scan the scene in front of me.
"Alpha..." I hear Dean's voice next to some bodies. His mate has her head resting on his thigh.
"Where's Katie? What happened here?" I bark.
"They took her..." He finally responds.
"Who took her?" I hold him by the throat, "Answer me quickly, Dean! My patience is running out!"
"The rogues that attacked the hospital took Luna with them," he says, and I grip his neck a little tighter.
"Why didn't you stop it?" I scream.
"Alpha... I-I wasn't here at the time," I take my hand off his neck, and he continues, "I was nearby when I smelled their stench, and then I came here. When I arrived, they were almost all dead. Dr Smith said they attacked and killed some people," I look around, and I can recognize that they're from my pack by the smell of their blood as they are almost all disfigured.
I look at his mate, unconscious next to him. She is alive because I hear her heart beating.
"Where did they take her?" I shout at him.
"I don't know, Alpha, Dr Smith is inside taking care of some injured people, he said some were in wolf form, but the ones who took Luna were in human form," he answers.
I thought what I was feeling was that something was wrong with my mate, but with so much blood around me... children's blood...
No, it was my pack's members dying.
She's still alive, if she were dead, I would know, but that doesn't lessen my despair because I don't know where to start looking... she doesn't even have any way to defend herself.
"Alpha," Dean says, breaking me out of my thoughts. I didn't realize I am walking around people's bodies on the floor; in front of me was Chloe's body, the hospital receptionist.
"Chloe was the first to be attacked," Dean goes on, he doesn't need to continue for me to know that Chloe is dead because her heart isn't beating. "Before she died, she told me to tell you something," my furious eyes meet his, and he lowers his head before continuing. "She said Luna tried to save her." Wait. Did she discover my mate's secret? "As soon as they approached Luna, one of them knocked her out, making her unconscious immediately," I start to growl with hatred, knowing that my little mate is out there unconscious and hurt.
When I lay hands on whoever took her, there won't be any dust left of the person to tell a story later.
I turn around and start to leave the hospital, I need to rescue my mate!
"Alpha, wait!" Dean yells.
"What? What do you want?" I snarl.
"Chloe said before she died that I should inform you that she smelled Luna, and her smell was different," he replies in a lower voice.
"What do you mean?" I take two steps towards him, this time closer to Chloe's body on the floor.
"She told me to inform you that Luna is pregnant."
