Werewolf
Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 56
Chad walks over to me and Katie and starts talking to her. I clench my teeth and tighten my jaw. When I was going to interfere, Jacob and Jason approached me.
"We need to talk," Jason says seriously, I stand up at the exact moment.
"Not here. Let's go somewhere else," he says, and we start walking out of the park.
I don't know what it is, but by his tone, it doesn't sound like a good thing. As always, he is with Jacob. Now that they are accepting each other, it seems that he doesn't know how to walk a step without the other one nearby.
After we get to a place far enough away that no one can hear us, they turn to me and start looking at each other.
"Speak up. I'm getting impatient," I say as I cross my arms and lean against a tree behind me.
"You may have noticed that Katie's eyes are puffy and the way she got out of the Crescent Moon pack," Jason starts to say.
"Yeah, she ran out of nowhere with no explanation," I reacted.
"Well, that was after what she saw…" Jacob says, and I wait impatiently for him to finish.
"What did she see?" I ask when he doesn't fucking say anything. I hate this guy.
"She saw the rogues you killed," he says.
"Of course, she saw the rogues I killed. This was the first round. They were literally all piled up behind me. What was it? Was she afraid? Scared?" I try to understand what it was she felt, and I start to question myself. Maybe she got scared and left scared, it makes sense, she's not used to a battlefield. She's just a human.
"Well, she came out afraid and scared, but it wasn't because she saw all the rogues. It was because she saw one in particular," he says, and I immediately catch my breath. Did I kill someone she knew? I get apprehensive.
"Who?" I asked then.
"Rebecca," he replies, clenching his jaw.
"And who is this Rebecca? Just say everything you know, I'm already pissed with your pace," I yell at him, and Jason looks at me, and I try to breathe so I don't hit Jacob.
"She was friends with Katie. They've known each other since they were kids. I particularly hated that bitch, but somehow, she created this persona for Katie, and Katie can't see the evil in people. Rebecca turned rogue because her pack was invaded, she decided not to be part of any pack anymore, even with Katie's insistence. For years, Katie helped her financially. Not long ago, I traveled with Katie out of the pack with boxes of things she had asked Katie for. I never trusted Rebecca, and I always wanted to distance myself from her, but I always stayed close to make sure she didn't try anything on Katie. I always kept an eye on her movements, but she was smart, she didn't do anything in front of Katie. But when Katie wasn't around, she showed me how rotten she was inside," he says with a disgusted face.
"Why didn't you like her?" I asked.
"Well, this question is simple. She tried to kill me! She set my bed on fire and drugged me so I wouldn't wake up, but Katie woke up at dawn and saved me. However, since I met Rebecca, I've never felt anything good on her. I knew there was something wrong with her," Jacob says.
My mate saved him? She manages to surprise me with things I never thought possible. How proud I am of her.
But that sense of pride is immediately corrupted by fear.
Now, all makes sense.
I killed a friend of hers. That's why she's treated me like that.
"When she saw Rebecca's body, she asked me to take her home, and I didn't think it was the best time to tell you. She needed me, and she is my priority. I've taken care of Katie since we were kids. She is a sister to me," he says with an emphasis on 'sister'. Does he know that I'm jealous of him? From the way he told it, it sounds like he actually considers her a sister. *Maybe I don't hate him that much anymore*.
"And why did you decide to tell me?" I question, he has no reason to tell me, he has reason to hate me for making Katie cry.
"I thought you deserved to know," he says with a smile on his face.
"And why do you think that?" I asked without understanding why that look from him like who knows more than he's talking about.
"I know she is your mate!" He states with a wide smile, waiting for my reaction.
"Did you tell him?" I yell at Jason, stepping towards him and punching him for betraying my trust.
"Of course not. Are you crazy?" Jason responds, and I stop abruptly before throwing another punch at him.
"I figured it out myself, stop being crazy, stop hitting my mate!" Jacob yells at me, and I look at him coldly in disbelief that he was talking to me like that. Does he want to die? I look over at Jason, and the bastard is smiling from ear to ear.
Jacob notices my alpha aurea and submits, and Jason says, "If I'd known he was going to defend me, I would have called for that punch sooner," he says with a smirk, and I roll my eyes. Jacob shakes his head but grins back at him.
"How did you find out?" I ask, interrupting the gaze between the two.
"It wasn't hard, like I said, I've been with Katie since we were in diapers, I know her. When you went to the first round, she was devastated, she had nightmares every day, I started to get worried, but with all the symptoms, it looked like she was far from her mate. Which is weird because she is wolfless, but she somehow can feel a bit of the mate bond. Initially, I thought she was missing Chad because they are boyfriend and girlfriend," he says with an arched brow and I flex my jaw muscles, and he continues. "But when I saw her reaction when she saw you and your reaction when you saw her, I was pretty sure you two were mates. Besides, if Chad were her mate, he would have already announced it to the whole pack," he concluded.
"Why didn't you tell me anything?" Jason requests Jacob.
"You didn't tell me you already knew either," he challenges Jason, and he raises his hands in surrender.
"Does she know about this? Did you tell her?" Panic rose in me.
What if she doesn't want our mate bond?
"Of course not, it's up to you to tell. I don't think she would want to know from anyone other than you," he says, and I nod, leaning back against the tree behind me, and Jacob continues. "But I am warning you. I hope you tell her soon, even if you want to reject her, because... she is suffering from the mate bond and doesn't even know she is your mate. It's not fair to her. I won't say anything, but if she gets upset for any reason, I'll tell her."
I squeezed my fists in anger at his threatening tone, but I understood why. He wants the best for her. And he even told me about this Rebecca girl, he actually helped me understand why Katie treated me so badly, and he also ended up revealing that even if just a little bit, she feels our bond. And for that, I was a little relieved.
"Let's go back, she's really sad, she almost didn't come to the party, I had to make her, but I promised I'd take her home as soon as possible, and I think she's looking forward to it," Jacob says.
And so we did, we went back towards the party. I entered first and went to her, I looked back and saw that Jason and Jacob were left behind, I think they are saying goodbye to each other.
When I get close to where she is, I sit down, and she completely ignores me, she continues talking to Chad. Well, it looks more like he's talking to her as she only responds to the conversation with a simple shake or nod.
After a few minutes, the couple comes up to us, Jason smiling and Jacob blushing.
Jacob talks to her, and she jumps to her feet, eager to leave. She says goodbye to Chad and everyone who is in the direction of the exit, and I follow her with my eyes intently like a hawk, every move she makes doesn't go unnoticed.
Before she leaves the park, she finally looks at me, and a tear comes out of her sad eye and runs down her flawless cheek, she wipes it away with her tiny hand and then leaves the park.
As I beheld the heartbreaking sight of her tear-stained face, a surge of intense pain reverberated through my chest, leaving me with the sensation of being mercilessly punched. At that moment, an overwhelming desire consumed me — to find a way, any way possible, to do whatever it takes to cease her sorrow and alleviate her pain.
The sheer extent of the pain I experienced upon witnessing her tears caught me completely off guard.
I didn't know it would hurt me so much to see her cry. I want to make it stop. I want to see only happiness in those lovely eyes.
When she hugged me, I spun her around in the air, and her long red hair flashed in the sun like fire.
She is my little sun, my little human mate.
Today, she treated me badly, and now I know why. I burned myself in my little sun, and only ashes were left. That's exactly how I feel.
I guess that's what I deserve for having a sun like mate.
But I can't reject her, *I want that beautiful warmth for myself*.
