Zyon fights the rogues to defend our fateful mate with savage determination. Jay's wolf fights side by side with me, he's a little bigger than my wolf, but I guard his back, and he guards mine.

We've been training in our human and wolf forms since accepting our mate bond, but I didn't know we would become so in sync like this.

The rogue that Jay doesn't kill, I destroy.

The rogue that tries to surprise me is surprised by Jay's fangs.

We are perfect for each other.

When we finally manage to contain some of the rogues outside the house, Zyon indicates with his head for Jay's wolf to follow in the direction where Kaiden's wolf had previously entered.

I wanted to follow him, I wanted to go and rescue my sister, and I didn't need to mindlink to know that Jay wanted to do the same thing.

However, the multitude of rogues overwhelmed us. We needed to gain control over at least a fraction of their force before we dared to proceed.

As soon as we found an opening, he and I entered the mansion and left the rest of the rogues for Alpha Benjamin, his warriors and Diamond Claw's warriors to take care of.

We ran desperately, looking for her, through the corridors of the mansion. My nose starts to burn from the stench of this place.

I feel disgusted putting Zyon's beautiful paws on this floor, I'm afraid his paws will dissolve and fall off with so much dirt.

We race through the crumbling corridor, even though we don't know which direction we should go.

But, suddenly, Zyon's acute senses detect a different kind of suffering—a child's anguished cries pierce through the noise. My heart clenches, and Zyon's instincts veer us toward the source.

My mate's wolf follows behind me, we round a corner to witness a harrowing scene that makes Zyon growls.

A kid screams and kicks in terror as a rogue is, in his human form, holding both legs of the kid spread out in front of him, inflicting unspeakable cruelty...

The abuser's malicious intent sends a surge of rage through my veins, the protective instinct roaring within me.

Without hesitation, my mate and I launch ourselves at this motherfucker, my fangs are ready to rip him apart, and our snarls are echoing in the decrepit hall.

The kid's cries intensify, which fuels us to shield and save the kid from harm.

Adrenaline courses through my veins as I sprint to them, my claws finding purchase against the rogue's flesh, a savage retaliation against the torment inflicted upon the defenceless child.

With my attack, he falls away from the child, but he is still alive.

I don't go to him to destroy him because I see Jay going towards him. Instead, I shift and go towards the child.

The kid's eyes are closed, and his hands are on his face, crying.

I kneel on the floor and look at him, not knowing what to do.

Then, I noticed that it was not a little boy.

It's a little girl... she is so scared.

I don't even know if she'll want me to get closer–

"Help me, please, get me out of here," she throws herself at me abruptly, wrapping her thin arms around my neck.

I'm surprised by this sudden act of hers. I'm not used to children, and after what I saw she went through, I don't know how to act with her so she doesn't get even more scared of me.

"It's going to be okay," I assure her as I run my hand down her back.

Her arms squeeze me so tight that I almost can't breathe, her body is shaking with terror.

She cries uncontrollably on my neck, she is all dirty, her clothes are torn, especially the bottom.

I try to calm her down as my eyes search for Jay in this filthy room.

My mate's wolf bites off both of the rogue's arms, he screams and tries to dodge Jay's savage attacks, but it's useless.

I know Jay could have already killed him, but after what he saw this rogue doing to this little girl, I'm sure he first wants this motherfucker to suffer as much as possible.

He plays with the rogue's terror, Jay taunts him as he kicks him with his legs and blood gushes from where his arms were.

With a final blow, Jay knocks his head off. He dies too quickly for everything he did. If we weren't in such a critical situation, I would love to kill him myself.

Jay doesn't shift into his human form, but he comes towards us.

The child releases one of his arms from my neck and turns towards him, but with one arm still tight around me.

Her eyes are wide as she looks at the huge wolf in front of her, and I feel her small body shaking all over me.

My mate's eyes meet mine, and he stops coming towards us in the middle of the room, afraid of scaring this little girl even more.

However, to our surprise, she lets go of my neck and goes towards him, with hesitant steps and shoulders tensed in fear; and when she gets close to my mate's wolf, much bigger than her, she hugs his front leg.

I smile at him, and he tilts his head and rubs his neck against the top of her head.

I'm just as shocked as he is. Maybe this is her way of saying her gratitude.

Suddenly, other wolves start running down the hallway, and my eyes go towards the door. The wolves are not rogues, they are Kaiden's warriors.

The child gets scared and lets go of the hug she was giving Jay. She comes running towards me, crying desperately, and hides behind me.

"It's okay, you're safe now," I try to calm her, but she won't stop crying.

I notice that she is shaking more than before, and I shout to the two wolves that enter the room, "Everything is fine here; go help Kaiden!"

Jay's wolf moves and stays in front of me as if protecting me.

They look at Jay's reaction, probably talking to him in mindlink, and after a while, they leave.

I turn my attention back to the child, but she is inconsolable, she can't stop crying. I hug her, and Jay approaches us and rubs his head against both of us.

After a few minutes, she stops sobbing, but she continues crying.

I'm relieved that we arrived in time to save her, but from her reaction, it doesn't seem like it was the first time she's suffered this type of abuse.

I look in the direction where the rogue's body is shattered on the ground, and I want to go there and kill him again.

I suddenly look for any sign of any wound or injury, but she doesn't seem to be seriously injured, which, on the other hand, the same cannot be said about her emotional state.

This child is clearly emotionally shaken after going through all this at such a young age. Honestly, she is strong just for being able to be close to anyone else after experiencing that.

"Kaiden found Luna, Kaiden found Luna, Kaiden found Luna!" someone shouts from the hallway.

Relief washes over me as I stand up and carry the child in my arms.

She presses her face into my chest, and I put a hand on the back of her head. I don't want her to witness any more terror. I don't want her to see anything around us.

Jay's wolf follows me closely by my side as I head toward the exit of this nightmare.
