Werewolf
Falling in love with my Ex's Alpha Chapter 87
He squeezes my hand, his gaze goes to one of the trees, "What kind of trees are these? I've never seen anything like them!" he repeats.
I look at the tree that he's admiring, and I also stop to admire the beauty of the tree that only exists in my pack.
"The leaves of this tree are unlike anything I've ever seen before," he voices.
Each leaf of this sacred tree is shaped like a feather, with delicate veins that branch out from the central stem and give the leaf a wing-like appearance.
Suddenly, the wind shakes the tree, and Kaiden makes sounds of surprise.
When the wind blows, the leaves rustle and flutter, almost as if the tree were taking flight. The color of the leaves is equally striking. They are a deep shade of green, with iridescent highlights that shimmer and sparkle in the sunlight. At certain angles, the leaves seem to change color, reflecting hues of blue, purple, and even gold.
As I gaze up at the tree, I can't help but notice that its branches are arranged in a way that resembles the wings of a bird in flight.
Despite their delicate appearance, these leaves are surprisingly resilient because they've been alive since before this was a forest.
Kaiden touches one of the leaves with the hand that isn't holding mine and feels the texture of the leaf. "These leaves are known to bring good fortune and to grant wishes to those who ask for them," I tell him, and he looks into my eyes and then looks back at the leaf in his hand.
"Some people take falling leaves and use them as a talisman to attract what they want. If the leaf dries and remains in the same shape, it means that the person's wish will be granted by the sacred tree. If the leaf falls apart after drying, it means that the sacred tree didn't accept your wish," I say, and he raises his eyebrows in surprise.
"That can't be true. It must be a myth," he says incredulously but continues admiring the leaf. "Come on, I'll show you the other two trees," I pull him, and he lets go of the leaf.
"Wait, what is that?" he points to a small door made of sticks nestled in the trunk of a tree. From a distance, it almost looks like a secret entrance to a fairy-tale world hidden within the tree.
The sticks used to construct the small door are weathered and aged, but they're also sturdy and resilient. They seem to be a testament to the tree's strength and endurance, standing the test of time and weathering the storms of nature.
"I don't know exactly what it means. It's been there for as long as I can remember; my parents don't know what it means either, and we can't remove it. It's forbidden," I say as I look at the two letters written on the small door: 'A + N'.
I was always curious about who wrote this and the story behind the meaning, but no one ever knew how to answer it.
Kaiden looks at another tree and pulls me towards it.
I look at the tree that captures his curiosity, and I smile because this is my favorite tree.
This sacred tree's leaves, normally a deep shade of green, have now taken on a fiery hue, turning a brilliant shade of red that looks as if it's ablaze with fire.
"This tree is incredible. It looks like it's alive... I feel it inviting me to come closer!" He says as he approaches the tree. "I can feel the heat emanating from these leaves," he holds one of the sacred tree's leaves.
"When the sun's rays stop touching the leaves, they return to their normal color and cool down," I say as I place my hands on the leaves to feel the warmth of the tree.
"What is this? Are they fruits?" he asks when he turns one of the leaves and finds a small round fruit underneath, almost imperceptible to anyone who looks at it without paying attention.
"These are sacred fruits. Despite the fact that this fruit has a sweet taste, what is most important about it are the seeds inside it." I explain, "the seeds of this sacred tree are revered for its medicinal properties. It may be used in healing practices to treat physical ailments. These seeds are very powerful, which is why our pack only uses them in extreme situations."
"And no one has ever tried to steal these fruits?" he asks curiously.
"Well, in the past, witches used these seeds from the sacred tree to perform evil spells. To avoid spreading evil, our pack doesn't let anyone have access to the fruits, and consequently, they don't have access to the seeds. Also, the tree barely grows fruit, and it's very rare for it to sprout and become mature enough to be used as a seed," I explain as I feel the warmth of the tree as I touch its trunk.
Here at the pack, there is a witch who only uses these seeds with my dad's approval. She is the fated mate of one of the oldest warriors in the pack.
"I like the look of that one," Kaiden points toward the last tree, the other end of the triangle. "Let's get closer," I say, and we walk hand in hand towards the black tree.
The sacred black tree is a magnificent sight to behold. Its bark is a deep, obsidian black, with twisted branches that reach high into the sky. As we approach the tree, I notice a faint, woody aroma.
"What makes this tree truly special is its unique ability to purify its surroundings," I say as we stand near the tree. We can feel a gentle breeze carrying away impurities and harmful bacteria from the air. It's as if the tree is creating a protective barrier around itself, keeping the area pure and safe.
As I gaze up at the tree's canopy, I notice that the branches seem to sparkle with a faint, otherworldly light. It's as if the tree is imbued with an energy that gives it the power to cleanse and protect.
"I can feel the purest air around this tree," Kaiden confesses.
"I told you, it purifies everything around!"
"I thought you were going to say it does something magical, too," Kaiden mocks me, and I roll my eyes.
"We're not in a fairy tale, Kaiden." I retort.
"What do these symbols mean?" He asks me, pointing to the tree trunk.
There are a number of strange symbols and carvings etched into the trunk and branches.
"I don't know what it means. To be honest, I don't even know if my parents know what it means. These symbols don't look like they were made by someone. They look like they grew alongside the sacred tree."
"I wish there were trees like that in my pack," Kaiden says, and I admire the morning sun illuminating his face, his lips seeming to call mine.
"Can I ask you a question?" I ask him hesitantly.
He doesn't say anything, just nods, and I proceed cautiously. "Why did you react that way to my parents?"
"What do you mean?" he asks a little firmly, changing the expression of admiration that was until that moment to his face to the usually stern face.
"Uh..." I stutter and try not to irritate him, "you reacted in a strange way. My parents just needed to understand the misunderstanding, and you made everything more complicated."
He looks around as if making sure no one is listening and then takes a deep breath. I can feel how upset he is... How much his anger is growing.
"You're so spoiled. You have no idea what needs to be done to get what you want. But how would you know? You're just human." He says coldly.
I don't understand why this sudden change in him, and I take a step back, not believing what I heard.
Abruptly, before I can even react, he turns and leaves me there frozen. When he goes away to the heart of the forest, he shifts and starts running at a speed that I clearly can't keep up with.
Which fills my eyes with tears, and I look up to keep the tears at bay.
Why did he treat me like that just after I had shown him the most valuable thing in my pack? My cellphone rings, and I answer it without seeing who is calling me.
"Hi beautiful, how is your vacation? Am I disturbing something?" Chad says happily on the other side.
"Hi... uhm... I'm not doing anything important... No... Go ahead," I say, controlling my voice so it doesn't get shaky while a tear rolls down my cheek.
